You deserve to be proud of what you are, whether you identify with the caste system or not. If you do not assign yourself, you will have it assigned to you, and that goes for anything. And mean things stick.

Of course you shouldn't feel any reason or requirement to disclose these things unasked; your privacy is another thing you deserve. But having an answer when you're asked somewhat cuts off the root of the imaginations around you when they try to come up with something "better."
