So there’s this company in the UK, right. They brand themselves on producing fancy free range eggs and as part of that they have breed information written on the carton.

I did some snooping and found that every miracle news story of a supermarket egg hatching in the UK traced back to duck eggs, specifically the Braddock White duck eggs produced by this one company for the supermarket Waitrose.

And one day my mum brings them home and says “I bought these to eat but aren’t they the ones that hatch?”

And it’s spring and I’m hatching a ton this year so in they went.

On candling we had three fertile eggs! That’s a fertility of 50% - the same as shipped eggs from a breeder!

Hatch day comes and we get 2 ducklings, Curie and Becquerel. Sadly, Curie contracts duck septicaemia from an infected navel and doesn’t make it, but Becquerel is a healthy bird and growing like a weed.

I had put 4 breeder eggs in a week after them in case just one hatched, so Becque now has two Khaki Campbell cross friends called Tsuki and Hoshi so she isn’t lonely.

And as of today’s 7am Quacking - Becque is a female! Which means she’s capable of laying eggs and therefore I have pirated a duck.

There are so many misconceptions!! Mostly about fakeclaiming. So many anti-endo people say stuff like, "Having non-human alters means they're faking," "Having fictives/factives/introjects in general means they're faking," "Having mostly LGBTQ+ alters mean they're faking," etc. Many people also think that switching, total amnesia, etc. are required to be a system. More include people thinking that trauma is needed to be a system, endogenic systems have no trauma, only outright abuse is trauma, all systems can/do choose their alters, alters can't have separate political/social/economic views and values, alters can't be a different gender or sexuality, systems cannot have their abuser as an alter, it's super clear who's fronting at any given time, and being a system is super rare and extremely obvious to everyone but the person in the system. There's so much more, but these are just a few that I've seen the most. Good luck!

MORE common misconceptions on endos, it's fine if you do repeats! It's likely I won't respond if it's a repeat

Some non-endo questions/misconceptions, but still connected to stuff that the plural community have done or coined or whatever

Some nuanced situations/questions!

If for your setting you say "There is no [naturally occurring population]", that's either genocide, or eugenics, or both!

EX:

"There are no disabled people" Yeah that only way that could happens if if people are killed the moment they become disabled, and if they're born disabled that means they're killed immediately.

Disability is a part of life. If you have a population of people, even if they all start out 100% healthy, eventually some of them are going to become disabled, or they'll have kids who are disabled.

Random accidental injuries, food poisoning, illness, things going wrong with pregnancy, environmental factors, and so much more are going to happen eventually.

"There are no queer people" why, because you kill them all?

"There is no religion" because you're killing anyone who's religious??

And this also applies to aliens or other fictional species - - if you say the entire species that's found all over the world is a single faction, and they all look the same and speak the same language and have the same religion....zyg that literally fucking means they committed genocide against everyone else and wiped out everyone who looked different or spoke other languages.

Disabled people exist no matter how advanced your technology is or how much magic the people have access to. Species are not factions. Different religions and languages and cultures are going to exist.

Dear people who aren't physically disabled who plan to write fantasy settings:

"Having your disability be accomodated does not mean the disability goes away. Having a prosthetic hand, even one that's made of magic, does not mean you're not disabled."

"Magical mobility aids do not mean disabled people don't exist. It just means they use magical mobility aids instead of plastic or metal ones. A limb made of magic is still a prosthetic even if it's made of the soul of the universe instead of plastic and metal."

Then another no panel: "'There's no disabled people beacuse magic'".

Then one last yes panel: "'Magic helps disabled people in a variety of ways'".

This also applies to science fiction; just because Luke Skywalker's prosthetic hand is super advanced doesn't mean it's no longer a prosthetic, or that he's not disabled. Same with Darth Vader - just because he has a suit that lets him breathe and walk around doesn't mean he's not disabled. (And Star Wars' propensity for making the villains visibly disabled while the heroes disabilities get covered up by super advanced prosthetics is a topic that deserves its own post, especially with how ableist some of the authors of the books are. Troy Denning is especially ableist)
