Family Spotlight: VAMLAU!Dupain-Chengs

Marinette didn't realize how uncommon her family was until she started school. Sure, Dhampirs can only be born from Moroi and Dhampirs together, but the majority of those pairings don't last. Moroi marry Moroi, and Dhampirs dedicate themselves to Guardianship, or Dhampir women live single lives, raising their children alone.

But Marinette's parents broke the mold. Her father, Tom, was a Moroi from a well-respected family. Her mother, Sabine, was a Dhampir. And they were married, happily married for twenty years. Sabine was never officially Tom's Guardian, though she fit that role to some degree, and while Tom was not disowned, his family certainly held him at a distance.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng, ever the romantic, idealized this relationship. Sure, she wanted to be a Guardian--protecting people, Moroi especially, was her passion! It was what she was best at, what she wanted to spend her life doing! But, in equal measure, she wanted a love story. She wanted kids and a husband, something only a Moroi could give her, at least in the traditional (aka biological) sense. Of course, she was also only 16, so reproduction and all that jazz wasn't necessarily at the forefront of her mind, but it was certainly something that flitted through her mind from time to time as she laid down at night.

Character Spotlight: VAMLAU!Alix Kubdel

In VAMLAU, Alix is a Dhampir. Her father, Alim, is a well-respected but non-royal Moroi, and her half-brother Jalil is also Moroi. Jalil's mother was killed by Strigoi when he was very young, and Alim later fell in love with his Guardian, and together they had Alix. At some point in the (non-existent) story, Alix's mother is ALSO killed in a Strigoi attack, and while she was able to save Alim, Jalil was taken by Strigoi and presumably turned. Alix, always so dedicated to her Guardian training, makes the tough decision to leave school to protect her father, who is not given a replacement guardian due to the shortage and his non-royal status. She is also torn because she is the kind of Guardian who thinks that Strigoi should be hunted down and killed before they can attack, but she puts revenge on the back burner in order to protect her father... for now.

Miraculous VA Character Breakdown

PART 1

In the VAMLAU, every Miraculous character is either a Moroi or a Dhampir. Someone might end up as a Strigoi. Maybe an Alchemist will come into the mix. But right now, every ML character must be diagnosed into what type of vampire they are.

Vampire Academy is called Vampire Academy because they are Vampires and they go to an Academy. All the special superhero children in Miraculous also go to school, so we shall start with them.

COLLEGE FRANÇOIS DUPONT IS NOW A SCHOOL FOR VAMPIRES... or rather, Moroi and Dhampirs.

RELEVANT VA GLOSSARY:

Moroi - good, living vampires. Moroi drink blood regularly and feel weakness in the sun, but age and die in a lifespan that is only slightly longer than a human. Each Moroi has an elemental magical ability, such as Fire, Water, Earth, Air, or the mysterious and rare Spirit. All Moroi have the ability to compel other Moroi, Dhampirs, or humans, but Earth and Spirit users have the most natural control of this. Moroi are pale, thin, and tall.

Dhampir - the offspring of a Moroi and another Dhampir (or, in the distant past, a human). Dhampirs have enhanced strength and speed, but do not require blood or have any weakness to the sun. Dhampirs do not have magical abilities, and two Dhampirs cannot have children together. Dhampirs typically work as protectors and guardians to Moroi and train for this position until they are 18. Dhampir are indistinguishable from humans from a distance, and are generally shorter, stronger, and more tanned than Moroi.

Strigoi - evil, undead vampires. Any Moroi, Dhampir, or human can become Strigoi if drained by a Strigoi and fed blood from it. Strigoi are ruthless and emotionless, without a connection to elemental magic while retaining a strong control over compulsion. Strigoi drink their victims to death and prefer the blood of Moroi above all others. Strigoi are deathly pale, with red irises.

Royals - some Moroi are of Royal Families. The Moroi have an appointed monarch, always from one of these 12 families. The head of any Royal Family is called a Prince or Princess, and any other Royal Moroi is given the title of Lord or Lady. The Moroi monarch will typically name their own successor, always from a family other than their own, but if no successor is named then a series of trials will determine the next ruler.
