Apparently, my granny told my mum that "all this is a new thing, it used to be people were just strange, and now they're autistic."
Like, yeah, the word and diagnosis is fairly new, but those people were still autistic. Autism wasn't invented, just the label.

Ten years since the Scottish independence referendum and I’ve aged 40 years since then.
I don’t think there’s much I can say that I haven’t said before, but the past ten years have done nothing but prove remaining in the UK was a mistake.
Tories and Labour are two cheeks of the same arse. Cost of living is through the roof, energy bills are about to rocket again in October, and wages have been stagnant for years.
The SNP are exhausted after over a decade in government. As much as I speak positively about Nicola Sturgeon, and she did great things as FM, there was a complete failure to prepare a successor which combined with an aversion to inner party conflict has led them to this stage.
On the flip side, young people overwhelming support independence even while SNP support weans.
Independence support sits at 2014 levels, which increases to a majority if independence was to lead to rejoining the EU.
Politics is tiring stuff, but there’s no rest for the wicked.
Onwards💙

Also, I was the kinda kid who WAS kicked out of a martial arts class bc I kept running around and doing my own thing. Because I refused to listen to or learn the most basic things, I couldn't be trusted not to hurt someone who was trying to learn and do things properly.
We gotta start telling people “you don’t actually like TTRPGs you just like critical role” more. Like if somebody joined a martial arts class and kept talking about signature moves and catchphrases and power slams and rivals like its pro wrestling that would be pretty fucking annoying to people who like to practice martial arts right

No one talks about when you feel someone else's distress, you feel distressed.
empathy gets treated as this universally positive thing but we forget that empathy often equals pain, and pain often activates fight or flight behaviors. a lot of my most asshole moments as a person were motivated by a twinge of empathy that was too painful to engage with in that moment, so i became aggressive and mean, NOT compassionate and helpful

Is it actually Wrong or just Weird?? I won't know until I hit the ground trying not to scream, and spend the next while immobile in bed. Or do whatever I was trying to do. Sometimes both!
sometimes your distress does indicate you should stop and respect your limitations. at other times it's more of a baby aquatic mammal being introduced to water for the first time thing. Too bad the difference is so hard to tell.

Flew for the first time a few days ago. It was only a half hour flight, so it was super fun!! Unfortunately, it was with Easy-Jet, so boarding took like over an hour, and I twisted my leg sitting down so badly I couldn't walk without crutches for a few days, so that kind of put me off flying for a bit. At least when traveling by coach and boat you get to sit down while waiting, even if it takes like three times as long.
Have y'all seen this 😭

calling all authors!!
i have just stumbled upon the most beautiful public document i have ever laid eyes on. this also goes for anyone whose pastimes include any sort of character creation. may i present, the HOLY GRAIL:
https://www.fbiic.gov/public/2008/nov/Naming_practice_guide_UK_2006.pdf
this wonderful 88-page piece has step by step breakdowns of how names work in different cultures! i needed to know how to name a Muslim character, it has already helped me SO MUCH and i’ve known about it for all of 15 minutes!! i am thoroughly amazed and i just needed to share with you guys

Babes. Babes, if this was an animal convention, I'm pretty sure it had more to do with Fullmetal Alchemist than furries. That is not a fursona, but a depiction of trauma to anyone who recognises it.

I just want to say that I think the banning of weapons (seriously? ninja swords?) is superficial; Fighting against gangs and knife crime would involve taking steps to support families, support education and make drugs less criminalised (so people don't have to get into all sorts of fuckery, or can get clean without worrying about being arrested). I know there's a statue called the knife angel which was made to raise awareness about this issue, and if you look closely at it, there's stuff like *screwdrivers* and the like in the angel. Banning weapons isn't going to stop violent crime, but supporting people will :/ It's a bit of a lip-service to me, innit? Like 'oh but we stopped people being killed by ninja swords :) we did a good thing' rather than committing to supporting people's mental health or providing youth services or helping stop homelessness, or y'know. stopping the media from inciting violent crime by blaming minorities, but what do I know :P
That’s pretty much it, and it’s where the conversation about gun control in the US is slightly different.
Knives and tools like screwdrivers have other utilities and it’s not feasible to put controls on them.
Labour could address the underlying issues that give rise to knife crime but are choosing not to in favour of this pretendy scaremongering on ‘ninja weapons’ born out of the 1990s.

Furthermore whoever removed the audio jack from phones should be grilled in front of congress. The fact that I need a dongle to listen to music on a modern telephone while 20 years ago I could have simply plugged a universally standardized cord into the audio jack everyone knew how to use is an anti-human move that should be punished.
