Because of how his dad died, and how he essentially watched his corpse rot over a few months, Vanus is super weird about dead things. He doesn’t want to be anywhere near them and the smell and sight of rotted things (even just animals) upsets him. While he doesn’t think through his trauma this way consciously (he thinks of his strong negative reaction to necromancy and anything potentially related to it as moral and ethical), subconsciously this definitely has always played a part in his adverse reaction to necromancy. This paired with his falling out with Mannimarco and an already pretty black and white thought pattern is why he’s so strongly black and white on the issue of necromancy and soul magic.
