Various Quirks Volume 2: The Fantasy

“Various Quirks” is a My Hero Academia fanzine. The second volume will have the theme: The Fantasy and the release date is yet to be determined.

The same as it was with Volume 1: Mix Tape- the goal is to collect work that is different enough from the original style. The art is going to be “varied” and will definitely be “quirky.” The Fantasy theme means that we’re going to have the characters be interpreted with elements of the fantasy genre.

That means having the characters re-designed to fit in a fantasy realm, much like in the styling of fantasy role playing  or dungeon crawling games, like Final Fantasy or Dungeons and Dragons.

IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE EXACTLY LIKE THE CREDITS ANIMATION. What this means is that there’s no limiter on what the character can be. If you want Kacchan as a Paladin, do it! Tsuyu as a witch? You bet! We can’t wait to see what you come up with.

GUIDELINES

POSSIBLE LIMITED ACCEPTANCE:

Due to a possible overflow of submissions, all submissions will be carefully considered this time. We will notify each submitting artist of their accepted status as soon as we can.

THEME:


As mentioned above, the theme is based on Fantasy, please be mindful and try not to stray too much from that central theme.

FILE SPECS:

9 x 11.50 inches should be your file size. We’ll take care of file handling for the physical book. We will also provide with a sort of guide file to overlay on your art to show you where the safe areas of the page will be.

All content of all ratings will be considered. G rated to R rated. We would normally say PG-13, however that really restrains the theme, and for certain characters would restrict too much.

Scheduled deadline is TBD.

Hello everyone!  

We are making an adjustment to the deadline of the book for several reasons, but I think that it will benefit the quality of the book as well as bring down the stress level for so many artists that were considering contributing to the book. 

Our new deadline is scheduled for the end of September, which would put us on schedule for having the books printed before November.

wait so for an artist making something do they size their canvas at 8.5x11 or do they size it with the 1/8th inch of bleed

Exact file size should be 8.5 x 11. 1/8th of an inch is subject to being trimmed out by the printing of the book. Don’t put anything vital in that 1/8th inch border.

Hi, i wanted to know if i can submit a black and white illustration, its actually a matter of style, or it has to be on color?

Black and white is acceptable if the theme requirements are met!

Are you only accepting one submission per genre or one submission per character, or are you accepting everything? Also, I want to participate, but I won't have mine in until late late late Sunday night so is that okay or is that too close to the cut off?

You can submit as many as you’d like. We’re not accepting everything, but there is a chance that everything that’s submitted will make it into the book since all the submissions so far have fit within the parameters of the theme. There are also no limits on how many pieces per character or per genre. Everything submitted so far has been a good variety, so I don’t see a need to put a limit on that currently. You should also be ok if you’re able to get the submission sent to us by late Sunday night. If you have any concerns about being able to get it to us in time, just send an email or a private message and we will discuss it more if needed!

Okay so I know the plan is for artists to buy the zine and then sell it on their own, but if they don't have any plans to sell it and just wanted a copy of it, is it okay if they just purchase like one copy or is that going to mess everything up?

Yes, if the artists only want one copy of the book, they may purchase only one copy.
