Rationale
My concept is how the Silver Ferns need to work part-time to be able to support themselves as semi-professional athletes. For the “Two Jobs for The Price of One” poster, I juxtaposed the netball and coffee mug to illustrate the split life a Silver Fern lives, being a famous athlete and an everyday woman working a regular job. In the “From Cafe to Court” poster I use juxtaposition with the milk jug and coffee cup to replace the shooter's circles on the court. I use the device again on this poster with the alignment of the headline and centre circle. The visual style I use is bold and bright with a vintage feel. I looked into vintage travel posters and I believe they are key artist precedents for my final designs. Italic fonts and shadows on the text are included to add dimension as well as adding dynamism, which is important considering the posters are about sport. The Ihi of my posters is derived through juxtaposed imagery, dynamic text, and bright colours. The Wehi of my posters would be guilt and even anger. I would want the viewers to be shocked by the fact that a famous sports team like the Silver Ferns can’t support themselves on their sports salary alone.

Summary/Self-critique
From Ihi Wehi i have learnt new ways to portray a message through poster design, learning rhetoric devices and the concept of Ihi Wehi i believe i have a better understanding of the designer/viewer relationship. The daily poster tasks were stressful for the night, but they were useful in helping me think outside the box a little bit, though i wasn’t overly happy with the designs they were interesting concepts to try and work with.
I am happy with my final designs and believe i have refined them to the best of my ability. I am happy with my bright colour choices and dynamic typefaces, however if i had more time would’ve changed the style of one of my posters. I had an idea for a photographic style for the Court to Cafe poster but ran out of time to pursue it. I did however, attempt watercolour for a different style but that design fell short conceptually. All-in-all as someone who has played netball all my life, i am proud to have created posters to raises awareness for an issue that is important to me.

More Poster 1 Iterations
I think the yellow and blue are working the best. The black is too harsh and looks too much like a goal post now. I like the italic font because it’s a bit more dynamic which relates to the netball/sport aspect

More Poster 2 Iterations
I like the look of the coloured shadow, i think the orangey one looks the best. I wanted to try make the green one more interesting using halftone, but i think the yellow one is still much stronger. I also think i should neglect the italic font for this poster because it doesn't align with the centre circle.

Mondays Class
19/08
Final Class before hand in.
No Lecture. The studio was for us to get last bits of feedback before sending to print
Feedback:
Two Jobs For The Price of One
Try other background colours (from the green one)
Actually revert back to original colours used (yellow and blue)
Try a different sub-heading -- ‘Silver Ferns work part-time to support themselves.’  ‘Being a Silver Fern is a full-time job.’
make sub-head white, heavier weight font
compress call to action
From Cafe to Court
keep text that aligns with the centre circle
use Silver Ferns as full-time jobs for sub-heading
call to action - compress but include sport nz thing

More Iterations
First design: These play around with more colour and blending styles for the images. I quite like how the green ones look with the images taking the same hue. Although, i do think the yellow stands out more. I prefer the body text below the line, above it looks too cramped.
Second design: These are attempts at switching up the colours of this one because the colours hadn’t changed essentially since i first created this design. I also slightly changed the vector style, making lines a little smoother and removing outlines of each colour. Although i think i prefer my original colour choices better, i do like the slightly altered vector style and i also like the 3D looking headline in the second one.

Thursdays Class
15/08
The lecture introduced us to more artists models and encouraged us to look into more artist models right until the end. We also got a walkthrough of how to print our final submissions through the toystore.
The studio was just an opportunity for us to continue fine-tuning our posters and get feedback.

Mondays Class  (Interim 2)
12/08
Half an hour before class i got to uni to print, almost an hour into class i finally got it printed in colour and at the right size.
Feedback:
Poster 1 (Two jobs for the price of one):
It’s much stronger than the second one
The headline is a big improvement
Do i need the blue pattern on the ball?
Could i use a brighter yellow?
And maybe use the red from the second poster
Matt told me that it has barely changed from the beginning - so play with different colours
Poster 2 (From desk to defence):
Maybe add bibs or a netball to the image to give more context
The call to action text should be smaller
Flag this poster basically - but the red text is good
Tile coffee cups and have one netball
Could i use a coffee cup on a side angle to relate to a different netball item?
Think of other ways to represent both aspects in a new way.

Concept iterations - Poster 2
I like the water colour as a visual style however, i’m not sure if there is enough context? I definitely like the bold red italic headline, i think the style matches the message nicely. i think the body text looks best dropped to the bottom of the page.

Concept iterations - Poster 1
I tried to create a really vintage/distressed poster as a variation for this concept. I visually like it but i don’t think it is as eye-catching as i would want it to be for a poster trying to raise awareness for something.
