idk if it was oversight or not caring or just thinking abt it from a purely "teaching moment" perspective but the fact that taash asks LUCANIS if nonbinary people are accepted within the crows/antiva and he says "yeah :) of course :)" while you can be playing a trans antivan crow, potentially nonbinary as well, and taash doesn't ask you and worse. you can even choose to say you've had bad experiences is really insane and. kinda gross tbh.

It's honestly really sad just how much dav hurts the previous games' northern characters' overall story in retrospect. And i'm not just talking about all the stupid retcons like turning the crows into moral freedom fighters or getting rid of slavery in tevinter and relegating it to only a couple mentions in some codex entries (even though that is still the biggest insult to these characters), it's also about just how flat the settings where they come from are...

For characters from ferelden and orlais (and even to a lesser degree kirkwall/the free marches) we have pages upon pages of lore and worldbuilding and how the different circles work and how their alienages operate and how their society is structured which all helps to build and dissect characters like alistair and morrigan and leliana and aveline and anders but for characters from antiva/tevinter/rivain we just. never get that.

We'll never have a frame of reference on how exactly elven liberati are treated and how fenris' sister and mother might've been treated to the point where varania resents fenris and believes he's more free than her. We'll never get to see how other slaves are truly treated to be able to compare it to fenris' experiences and how much from the norm he strays or doesn't. We'll never learn how the other altus treat dorian and what they think about him. We'll never truly learn just how well off house pavus was or wasn't compared to the other magister houses in the crumbling empire that was supposed to be tevinter. We'll never really learn the full scope of the archon's power and how that might affect mae/dorian now that they're in that position. We'll never learn the range of a normal civilian's opinions on the crows in antiva. We'll never learn what the attitudes towards elves and mages are really like in antiva and how zevran might've been treated outside the crows/during a contract. We'll never see how a crow house actually operates and what their quarters look like to be able to grasp zevran's situation within house arainai. We'll never get to see what a brothel in antiva looks like to understand how zevran's childhood might've truly been like. We'll never really understand how different josephine's upbringing was from other noble merchant houses in antiva and from normal peasants. We'll never see anything of actual substance from rivain to be able to know what isabela's life could've been like at all!!

All of the lore surrounding these characters will always be tied down (within the games) to their own sparse, biased retellings of their lives and homelands, without us actually getting a chance of exploring what they actually were like.

The crows making sure elio only gets contracts in antiva, tevinter or the free marches so that no matter where he goes he knows if he isn't hated/enslaved for being elven he WILL be hated/imprisoned for being a mage.

Little elio who's tired of all the grueling training and the fights being told about the rite of tranquility for the first time, about how if a mage doesn't pass their harrowing they're killed on the spot no second chances, about what they do to elves in tevinter, how he wouldn't be a person, an actual citizen in the one place where his magic wouldn't be a problem.

How he HAS to be grateful for what he has, for what the crows are doing for him, that the only reason he can walk as freely as he does as an elf, as a mage, is because he is also a crow.

I really wish we could've seen what the circles and alienages in antiva were actually like because i think there is something so juicy and interesting about elio who DID live in an alienage as a child but it was so long ago and most of his memories of it were overwritten by being sold to the crows and forced to fight other children immediately after living knowing it's not the worst fate that could befall an elf like him but still seeing it as essentially a place to. well. alienate people like him AND also seeing/knowing/hearing about the antiva city circle or the other well known thedas circles and knowing the kind of horrors that happen to mages within them and seeing the circles as prisons one can never escape from and thanking the maker every single day that at least. at least he gets to see the world and interact with other people as a crow. That he may have been beaten and used and bought and at times essentially tortured and he is still ostriziced by others to a degree for being an elf and a mage BUT AT LEAST he doesn't have to suffer the usual fate of other mages/elves. at least he possesses a modicum of power when it comes to making his daggers strike true on their target

I don't think i will ever get over just how much they fumbled the interactivity of the romances with rook's faction. Why was there no drama if u romance davrin as an antivan crow. Why wasnt he crying screaming throwing up at falling in love with an assassin for hire from the faction he supposedly despises. Why didnt lucanis have any kind of thoughts about falling for a subordinate froma different house, for someone who was viago's protege. Why didnt taash think anything of substance abt how fucking weird a mourn watch rook could be. WHY DID NO ONE REACT ABT ROMANCING A GREY WARDEN ROOK WHEN EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT THEIR LIFE EXPECTANCY IS.

If a stranger saw them together they would describe them as two people who clearly gravitate towards each other (their easy physicality and how they look at each other (whether that's when one is looking away or when their eyes meet for however long) like one is the sun and the other the moon being two major tells for that), who care about each other and who, regardless of at what point in their actual relationship they are, are either in their honeymoon period or hopelessly pining for each other.
