honestly probably not even posting my art on tumblr anymore. It’s too much of an actively art-hostile place. Why bother when nobody’s gonna see or share it, and my accounts gonna get terminated in a few months anyway just for being a trans woman.
if anyone needs me, I’ll be on Bluesky.

NEW NAME, BABEY
Some updates in addition to that: -I quit my awful job that was stressing me out to the point of illness
-I am now a full-time freelancer
-My art may become much more suggestive or even explicit from now on. There's still gonna be silly monster things, and Denizens of The Sunken will stay much the same, but other pieces are gonna get raunchier.
-I am much chattier over at my Bluesky these days, gimme a follow there if you like! (HEED THE PROFILE, that account is more explicit than this one.)

sorta related to my previous points: it always bothers me when people act like making farms in Minecraft is... cheating? or cheesing in some way?
some great abuse/affront to the game's mechanics that the devs would never want you doing, and that Minecraft is broken because they let you build things like iron farms or gold farms. So many suggestions to change the entire game structure of minecraft, some interesting but usually some Not, entirely built around making it so you dont have to "cheese" with those icky-yucky "farms" that only fake minecraft fans would ever build.
I love building farms far more than I do building decorative structures. I love seeing a machine come together and the build having a Practical Purpose. I'll build farms for anything! Iron, gold, my latest one was a Cat farm to collect all the cat variants.
Sorta related to my point about minecraft fans going "the game should only be properly playable the way I want to play it!" with a lot of things like villager trading or iron farming, acting like the game is irreversibly broken and unfun because it doesnt constantly put out updates to curb the behavior of... technical players engaging with the technical aspects of the game. It's good that iron is farmable in such large quantities fairly easily! It's good that things like gold or redstone are too! (Hell if I could change anything, i think drowned farms are far too inefficient to be our only renewable source of Copper, given how much you need to build out of it)
Farming is an important part of minecraft. I love seeing all the farms that people make to renewably obtain some of the rarer or more esoteric items in minecraft. I love trying to build them and seeing the materials pour in! It's like collecting, but you build it! And its always weird to see parts of the MC community really look down on farms as this like... grotesque perversion of the game's code that turns it into some idle cookie clicker. You don't get it. Building the farm IS the fun.

neither of those things make them “mandatory”. Useful yes, but they are not as Mandatory as the people making tutorials seem to lead you to believe.
Minecraft is a game about creativity, and just because the tutorial makers and YouTubers found a simple, small scale iron farm or villager breeder design that people copy doesn’t make that something the “mechanics” are encouraging. It’s just something that the players Do because they all learn from each other and the game doesn’t go out of its way to make contraptions like this Impossible just for the sake of it. The game does not Force you to build a tiny villager breeder any more than it Forces you to make sure every villager breeder is the size of an actual village.
Like, I get where you’re coming from but.. they’re not alive. The game does actively incentivize you to interact with them positively via trading with them, growing their villages (only breeding with a surplus of food and bread), defending them from raids and zombification. Yes, more tech-savvy players have found ways to use these mechanics to make compact villager breeders and villager trading halls, but I’m not here to take that away from them.
Idk. In general this whole “isn’t it crazy you’re locking villagers in rooms they can’t leave and forcing them to breed?” Feels like an edgy Minecraft joke I heard like 90 times in 2021 alone. It’s not that fucked up, they’re video game guys, it’s only as fucked up as much as you’re prescribing agency and autonomy to Minecraft Villagers. They’re only prisons if you’re intent on describing them that. The villagers in my worlds mall have little stalls that they work in because it’s their job. And the game doesn’t need to raise every villagers prices because they don’t like that technical Minecraft YouTubers build ‘villager prisons’
Minecraft fans will never have a good answer to villager trading. “What if we added 80 bullshit variables so the player HAS to let villagers wander free in giant medieval-Europe style towns or you won’t get to use villagers. because that’s how the game is Meant to Be Played. Better yet, let’s get rid of trading because it’s Unfunny and not how the game is Meant to Be Played. It’s not like the game gives us any alternative to making giant trading halls and iron farms. None at all!”
what if I wanna build a mall. What if I want them all in little stalls. What if I don’t care about treating these little lines of 1s and 0s “humanely” in my fucking video game art project. Don’t tell people how to play the game the same way the game doesn’t tell you how to play it

The very phenomenon im talking about is, in fact, prescribing what individual players Should be doing. the only active 'incentive' to keeping your villagers in stalls is just for ease of access without them wandering off and keeping them all nice & organized.
The posts on minecraft suggestion forums and youtube shorts that im always seeing always describe it as a massive Problem of people locking these villagers in Prisons (which is prescribing an unhealthy amount of autonomy to these video game entities whos main purpose is a trading minigame, and also making a massive extrapolation that all villager trading halls should be thought of Only as inhumane Prisons)
So, to combat this perceived 'problem' of people storing and sorting their villager traders in a way they find distasteful to these things that Arent alive, every suggestion i see involves adding a bunch of arbitrary checks to make Sure villagers are kept Out and Open and Wandering in, well. Villages. And I don't always want to make a Village as the design of my trading place. Like my last trading hall that was designed around a mall. It is extremely 'telling you how your game should be played.'
Nothing is stopping you at the moment from keeping your villagers in a Village beyond, well, the fact that the villagers walking around means they'll be walking around. Which is what you wanted. I want mine sorted in little booths in my mall and I don't want "price increases" for doing so like so many suggestions seem to think is the answer.
I also generally disagree that interacting with villagers is "mandatory". Useful? Yes I should hope so. Important for high-end players? Again, yes, I should hope this part of the game with this much depth has that kind of level put into it. Mandatory? Ehhh. Really the only thing i cant imagine Truly living without is Mending, and even that theyve been fixing by making it a very common Ancient City find. Renewability is lovely, and im okay with Villagers being the answer to renewability. It is absolutely possible to play the game without making a giant villager trading hall and a 40k stack/hour iron farm.
((look, dont get me wrong, I have issues with Villagers. Namely, the pacifist, hook-nosed, money-loving villagers and their golem defenders are undoubtedly antisemitic and were made by a known anti-semite and their designs and characterization does need to be improved DRASTICALLY. I just think, from a gameplay perspective, most 'fixes' for this 'issue' is Limiting Creativity in a game all about Not Doing That))
Minecraft fans will never have a good answer to villager trading. “What if we added 80 bullshit variables so the player HAS to let villagers wander free in giant medieval-Europe style towns or you won’t get to use villagers. because that’s how the game is Meant to Be Played. like, idk. I think as someone who always makes sure to set up a giant iron farm and a massive villager trading hall with a librarian for every enchanted book, you have GOTTA watch less minecraft youtubers.
Not everyone plays the game that way and CERTAINLY it is not the only way to play the game (nor is it 'actively incentivized' as the true/correct way to play the game. the devs just dont Actively Break It because guess what, the technical players/farmers love the same game as you.)
Calling villager trading 'actively player-hostile' and 'turning my beautiful video game into an idle clicker' is so deeply out of touch. the trading trees are fun! And as much as I'd love some more unique ways to obtain enchanted books outside of villagers (fishing/enchanted table's too luck dependant, but the experiment of having librarians in different biomes sell different books is a neat idea!), there's not much of a fundamental 'rework' villager trading needs as much as the 'stop having fun' portion of the fanbase seems to insist that it does.
