awkward post-argument scenarios

 pacing around while debating whether or not you should text them after they’ve left the house for a bit 

 forgetting about the argument after a while and going in for a hug, kiss, or any other form of affection that is a force of habit

 needing to go to an event after a party and having to pretend as if they aren’t angry with one another the entire time 

 “i don’t want to go to bed angry…can we please talk about this?�� 

 catching the other one crying shortly after and immediately feeling an overwhelming wave of guilt crash onto you.

 “hey…uh, the dinner’s here…” 

  painful silence hanging over the room when both of you want to start talking things out but are just waiting for the other to speak first 

 when one tries to pretend like the argument didn’t even happen after a few hours, which could either anger the other more or cause them to brush it off all the same 

 “…you still mad?”

 feeling guilty so you perform an act of kindness (ex: making them their fave food) as an indirect apology 

 ranting to friends or a relative about the other, only for them to agree and call you out on your wrongdoings

 “i didn’t kick you out. all i said was that i needed some space…” 

  texting them because you feel a little too embarrassed/nervous to see them face-to-face again 

 trying to apologize but only sparking up another argument

Sparring prompts:

Teaching them how to hold a weapon properly by standing behind them and guiding their hands, when you notice that their face has turned red

Saying something flirty mid-fight which catches them off guard, giving you the perfect oppurtunity to strike

Somehow, their training session turns into a full on tickle fight

They wince in pain and you frantically start apologizing. As you get closer to check for any injuries, they attack suddenly, calling you out for falling for such an old trick

Or they do end up actually getting injured, so you clean off their wounds

You want to ask them out after a match, but you keep getting nervous and postponing it, and they're confused as to why you keep coming back eventhough they've defeated you everytime

Their weapon gets damaged after a fight, so you make them a new one.

Finding it difficult to focus because this is the first time you've seen them with their hair tied up

You aren't well, but you don't want to skip training and make them worry, so you continue on as usual, thinking it's not that serious. But that's proven wrong when you faint right in front of them mid-fight

They've been avoiding you a lot, and after every training session, they leave immediatly without saying a word. One day you decide to pin them to ground during a fight and ask what's wrong

now don't let them give up. let them stagger to their feet, wiping that trickle of blood from their nose, favoring that leg or that arm, and let them bare their teeth at the enemy and dare them to bring their worst.

The unsettling closeness between a stranger caretaker, and a severely wounded whumpee:

The stranger picks them up and carries them when they can’t walk. Whumpee hasn’t felt a shred of kindness in so long they blindly cling to it, tucking their face under their chin to hide. 

Unspoken trust as caretaker patches them up; but even though it hurts, whumpee stays silent and still. 

Seemingly alien conversations when caretaker asks if they’re okay with being carried or touched. They tell them beforehand everything they do before they do it, not surprising or starting them with any pain. 

Taking a damp cloth to whumpee’s face, lathering off sweat, blood, dirt, or all three. Whumpee’s too flustered to say anything, they just lower their head shy of speaking. 

The night falls cold and whumpee starts shivering. They hold their breath and curl up against the back of the stranger, hoping they aren’t angry when they wake up…

characters under mind control that should have collapsed or fallen unconscious due to their injuries a long, long time ago

but they continue to get up

they continue to slowly stumble to their feet, their actions not their own

their brain ignoring their body's cries to stay down

each time they get up, their movements become slower and slower- more uncoordinated, more robotic

there's nothing behind their swings anymore-- just jerky, inhuman movements

they just keep getting beaten back down to the ground

but they just won't stop getting up

they can't

despite their broken bones and bleeding wounds, their mind will not let them stay down.

they can't think

they can't see anymore

they can't feel anything

they just know that they must keep getting up.

the person beating them back down grows more and more weary- more and more sickened with the character

something is wrong

it doesn't feel right anymore

whatever was going to be accomplished in this fight isn't worth it anymore

Sure, here is my advice for you:

How to write betrayal

Betrayal can be a good plot twist for your character and for your reader. If it's done right, it can be surprising and highly emotional.

Reasons for betrayal

personal gain/greed

ex. money, status, power, etc.

fear

jealousy or envy

Types of traitors

the bad guy - you always knew they would eventually betray you

the weak one - the person is not strong enough to stand by your side or strong enough to resist temptation

the climber - this one wants to gain something from the betrayal and wants to climb the social ladder - and for that they need to step on you

the good guy - they're trying to actually help you, even if it means they have to betray your trust

the conflicted - they don't want to hurt you, but they have a very good reason for their betrayal

How to make it impactful

two things: not seing it coming and being close to the traitor

show how much the character trusts the traitor, how they confide in them and believe them to be on their side

or show that the betrayed would have never even considered that the traitor could betray them, so the betrayal is a complete shock to them

Why does it hurt so much?

they lose a person close to them

their memories with them are tainted now

they second-guess all their past interactions

it disturbs their sense of trust with everyone, because if even someone they trusted could betray them, then what is stopping anyone else

it confuses their instincts, since they didn't see it coming

A sense of horror

One of my favorite tropes that I honestly think is pretty underrated is a loved one or an onlooker’s overwhelming sense of horror when they discover what has happened to a protagonist/MC.

Like, a character stumbling in, bleeding and broken, their loved one’s dread building and building as they unwrap the layers of mc’s clothing with shaking hands, only to find more and more and more blood— their panic and anguish overwhelming them when they discover just how deep the injuries go.

MC being brought home after a near-disastrous rescue mission, and the caretaker is finally able to get a good look at their injuries in proper lighting, and the horror hits them like a destructive blast when they see deep, bloody gashes, whip marks crossing along their back, deep cuts and bruises in various stages of healing, a broken bone jutting out awkwardly at an angle it definitely shouldn’t be, and they’re just so overcome with revulsion and terror and heartache at what mc has had to endure. 

And the fact that, that whole time, they had no idea. There was nothing they could do, but god, they didn’t know it could get this bad. 

Or an onlooker, struck with a nauseating realization of how twisted some of their companions can be; the guilt of a bystander a weight that grows and grows, as they wrestle with dueling urges to help and to stay silent. (shoutout to @whumpsday for giving us another perfect example of this trope just yesterday)

Or even a villain/whumper, who agreed to participate in the cruelty, at some point down the line becoming too repulsed by the bloodthirst of their own comrades or fellow whumpers, suddenly unable to look anymore, wracked with guilt and disgust and thoughts of ‘god, what have I done’ 

A caretaker, rescuer, or even a new captor obtaining a whumpee who has been so conditioned by their past abuser that it makes their skin crawl. MC asking, begging to be punished at the slightest perceived mistake, or just bringing their new captor or guardian something to beat them with before falling to their knees. Anything that leaves them horrified, wondering ‘what the hell did they do to you’ yet also being too afraid to ask. The “are you my new master” trope may fall under this category and is also just immaculate. 

God I love this trope, whatever you call it.

"Hold still!" Caretaker shouted.

"No way!" Whumpee cried, "there is no way you are sticking me with that thing!"

"The shot is supposed to help you feel better, don't you want relief from the pain?"

"Not if it means being drugged up and barely able to function." Whumpee folded their arms tightly across their chest.

"Okay," Caretaker sighed, "if that's how it's gonna be. Teammate 1, Teammate 2, get in here!"

Hurried footsteps grew louder from outside the med bay. Teammates 1 and 2 scurried in.

"What's up? How's treatment going?" Teammate 1 asked.

"Hold them still," Caretaker ordered, jerking their head toward Whumpee.

"You can't be serious," Whumpee said.

"I can, and I am," Caretaker replied.

Before Whumpee could react, strong arms gripped them and pinned them down to the bed. Whumpee struggled, but they were no match against their own team. Teammate 2 grabbed Whumpee's arm and extended it, exposing the inside of Whumpee's elbow. Caretaker swiftly brought the needle down, pricking Whumpee's skin. They emptied the contents of the syringe into Whumpee's bloodstream.

"There," Caretaker said, panting, "that wasn't so bad, was it?"

"Yes, yes it was!" Whumpee yelled, still pinned down, "I told you I didn't want it!"

"I know, Whumpee, but I can't stand seeing you in pain. This is for your own good. Besides, you need the rest."

Whumpee's eyes were already beginning to glaze over. Gradually, they were getting easier to hold down. By the time Teammate 1 and Teammate 2 released them, Whumpee was lying limp on the bed.

"C-Care-" Whumpee tried.

"Shh, it's okay," Caretaker soothed, running a hand through Whumpee's hair, "just close your eyes. You'll feel better in a few minutes."

Whumpee's eyes drifted shut. Caretaker, Teammate 1, and Teammate 2 all breathed sighs of relief.

"They're gonna kill you when they wake up," Teammate 2 remarked.

Caretaker waved a hand dismissively.

"That's Future Me's problem," Caretaker said, "let's let them sleep for now."

Each day has two prompts, which are opposites or otherwise parallel each other in some way. You can use both prompts, if inspiration strikes, but it’s not required.
