Love when writers do an insane amount of unnecessary research for their fics. I follow an author that did like 8 months of intense research into 14th century Scotland so they could write smut about it, and guess what. It was some fucking incredible porn AND I learned about old Scottish politics

It's so funny to me that the term "whump" can easily mean anything from "this character has a cold 😦 but here's another character taking care of him 🙂" all the way over to "this character is being viciously tortured to death" and sometimes those two creators are following each other.

I feel like I've dabbled in shipping Nea with virtually every female killer - Nea x Sally and Nea x Julie being the ones with most written for them off the top of my head - although I worry sometimes that I bring too much of the 'in-game-meta' community perception of Nea into it.

I feel like Sally - having spent decades at the asylum before snapping - is probably one of the coldest and most set-in-her-ways pre-Fog of the killers (at least those that aren't in their own league like Dracula or Wesker) so it's interesting to imagine Nea's scrappy, resilience shaking up/irritating her settled cynicism.

Conversely depending on what lore timeline/selection you go by, Julie could be one of the killers who feels she has the most to prove. To be honest I've always found her most interesting imagining her akin to Chris Hargensen from the novel Carrie. That vicious, itching dissatisfaction and the desire to take it out in power over the world around her. Nea taunting her with her evasiveness and quick thinking and getting under Julie's skin, leading to a decidedly antagonistic foe-UST is an interesting thought experiment to me.

I've also batted around the idea of a 'casual/FWB that gets deeper while they refuse to admit it' between she and Feng Min. After all they're both very tough and have dealt with major life upheavals by becoming defiant to the world (well, if you want to call Feng Min's spiralling alcoholism and 'goes out drinking and wakes out after blackouts in strange places' attitude that.)

Next on the shipping list is Nea. I do laugh that all of her ships appear to be lesbian. Cause I mean, we know what you are Nea. I always found her to be one of my favorite girls to ship around as well. So am curious where this poll will go.

I admit the last one is mine. Hey the poll is my creation I can throw my own propaganda in. And the idea of Julie just making Nea worse has always been funny to me. Or on the flipside Nea showing Julie things can be fun without murder.

My big ships for Claudette are Claudette x Kate and Claudette x Jake. I used to dabble in Claudette x Phillip myself a little, as the introverted empathy of Claudette and the quiet but ferocious tragic dignity of Philip appealed to me. But later another Philip crackship waylaid me, and a friend ended up turning me onto the strange Talbot x Claudette path. Alchemist x alchemist, in a way.

Claudette x Kate was just a polar opposites dynamic trope that struck me where I lived. Kate being a brassy, confident and extroverted singer - you have to be pretty tough and out there to tour alone as a young woman (or even just with her mother as she did earlier in her life) - and I loved the idea of Kate's warm and rough and tumble attitude slightly flustering and bowling over Claudette but also Claudette blooming under the care and connection. And Kate having the patient interest to come to understand appreciate Claudette intelligence and creativity.

And Claudette and Jake, the classic from the opening cinematic of course lol - another attraction of 'balanced out opposites' that speaks to me. One party tougher and a little more ruthless, reminding them when to prioritize themselves, with one party more concerned and altruistic. You need a little of both for a good team.

Next on the shipping list is Claudette. I have to say was a little disappointed when I clicked in. Cause most of her top ships... are just someone else's ships.

Because of that I decided to add one I think would be cute. So she can have more then three.

Cause of the low amount I do hope people comment for other. Very sad to see how little ships she has.

Also to defend Wraith x Her. I just think they could work out. I think both of them are pretty quiet. And I could see Claudette wanting to help Philip and recognizing hes a good soul

I hope it's all right to piggyback off of these posts with reblogs! I've been on a long mental break gap and I miss DBD and wanted to get back into thinking about it. If not I'll switch to making original posts but since I'd be piggybacking off your ship data for the poll I thought I'd give you credit.

I got myself into a small crackship of Max/David after the David reveal - although for the purposes of that ship, Max would obviously be less simple-minded/infantilized than I've seen him depicted in some fanon. The parallels of parental issues, dysfunctional anger, buried yearning for connection etc. I'd picture it beginning with a chaotic and tangled antagonism, sure, but circumstances set up by a determined fic writer could lead to a connection.

I tend to be female character focused so I don't have that many other Max ships myself (and as noted, the character presents and is usually written in lore snippets as pretty feral.)

I knew this one was gonna be strange but the next on the list was Max Thompson Jr. Aka the Hillbilly. Even I admit I never really shipped with this character. So I wasn't surprised that any ships at all on AO3 only had like (3) posts if that.

Still here is the next poll.

I understand why he has such low ship rate. He's pretty feral. So it's hard to imagine him with anyone. Although the idea of him becoming more human cause of the love and attention from his eventual love suddenly sounds interesting to me.

Perhaps even I need to come up with a Hillbilly ship?
