In the process of streamlining my stable, so opting for a couple “do it all” bikes instead of the menagerie that is right now. Gearing up for a couple small adventures and starting to pre-plan for the biggest one of all.
N+1 = Salsa Mukluk, Salsa Vaya, and Trek Fuel, which I’m still sidling back and forth on.
I spent a lot of time and a fair amount of change upgrading an old Specialized Hybrid for recreation and light tours, but in the end, it doesn’t have enough space or oomph for the kind of tours I want to be doing. I picked up a Mukluk a few months ago after trying (unsuccessfully) to land a Salsa that would fit just right, but it just never worked out. Finally lucked out with an extra-small frame and the tech, Doug, at REI who was more than fantastic and we got it just right. After my experience with the Mukluk, I’m taking a chance on the Vaya for touring and light gravel-packing.

October 27, 1858: Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday.
This favorite among presidents may have carried a big stick, but he was a softie for parks. Learn more about the many parks that still honor his legacy of conservation here: http://prks.org/2kCE6pC

Fat bike season is rolling in. After a couple tries, I finally found a Salsa that fits me. Salsa Mukluk, 26″ x 4.8″, carbon frame.
Thanks to Salsa for making sexy bikes that are a blast to ride. Thanks to Doug at REI for taking the time to make the bike just right for me. Thanks for the guy on the trail who chatted with me for 20 minutes about how much fun they are.
Old Man Winter - bring me some snow.
