Do you have any voice head canons for the cast "Sorry, We're Closed?" Forgive me for saying , but in my mind Lucy has either a super breathy voice, or... It's Doc Hammer a-la Dr. Mrs. The Monarch. Just wanted your two-cents as well!

I had no idea who Dr. Mrs. The Monarch was and googling it I understand the vision lol. Honestly though I don't have like, specific actors or anything that I imagine for the characters, but I guess there's a general idea, which I guess is kind of shown through the little voice clips that are dotted around throughout the game.

it is my experience that people with dermal implants and eyeball tattoos and 34 visible piercings are the sweetest people you'll ever meet and will cry if they see a pigeon with a broken wing. it is also my experience that clean-cut people in polo shirts with perfect smiles will vote against your rights and say the most disgusting things imaginable once they think you're out of earshot.

i say this in all seriousness, a great way to resist the broad cultural shift of devaluing curiosity and critical thinking is to play my favorite game, Hey What Is That Thing

you play it while walking around with friends and if you see something and don't know what it is or wonder why its there, you stop and point and say Hey What Is That Thing. and everyone speculates about it. googling it is allowed but preferably after spending several minutes guessing or asking a passerby about it

weird structures, ambiguous signs, unfamiliar car modifications, anything that you can't immediately understand its function. eight times out of ten, someone in the group actually knows, and now you know!

a few examples from me and my friends the past few weeks: "why is there a piece of plywood sticking out of that pond in a way that looks intentional?" (its a ramp so squirrels that fall in to the pond can climb out) • "my boss keeps insisting i take a vacation of nine days or more, thats so specific" (you work at a bank, banks make employees take vacation in long chunks so if youre stealing or committing fraud, itll be more obvious) • "why does this brick wall have random wooden blocks in it" (theres actually several reasons why this could be but we asked and it was so you could nail stuff to the wall) • "most of these old factories we drive past have tinted windows, was that just for style?" (fun fact the factory owners realized that blue light keeps people awake, much like screen light does now, so they tinted the windows blue to keep workers alert and make them work longer hours)

been playing this game for a long time and ive learned (and taught) a fuckton about zoning laws, local history, utilities (did you know you can just go to your local water treatment plant and ask for a tour and if they have a spare intern theyll just give you a tour!!!) and a whole lot of fun trivia. and now suddenly you're paying more attention when youre walking around, thinking about the reasons behind every design choice in the place you live that used to just be background noise. and it fuckin rules.

every time i'm watching a playthrough of Sorry We're Closed and the person playing doesn't chat with Lucy on the phone, i start rattling the bars to my cage. since it's entirely optional, skipping her dialogue leaves you in the dark about her true nature, until she picks you up at the hotel (and even then, it's not 100% evident how terrible she is). if you do chat with her though, she is such a treat!!

this blue bitch just saunters in like she's the lick of the dick, encourages Michelle into a life of pure delusion, and does it all without a shred of hesitation. she offers the least enticing deal imaginable with the full confidence of a diva who's done this all before, and she WILL do it again.

i think that chatting with her in general helps to further characterize Michelle, especially in a run where she joins forces with Lucy. Michelle is always crazy to some degree (she has to be, I would be too if Leslie broke up with me), but compared to how she is in other routes, Lucy just brings out the worst in her... she is the worst flavor of crazy: the most audacious, full-of-herself, obsessive Michelle there could be.

she is clearly capable of making her own decisions, and she's not dumb. so what is it about Lucy that convinces her that this is anything but insane? i can't help but wonder, has there always been this core of white hot derangement inside of Michelle, or is she just comically impressionable?? is she willingly turning a blind eye to reason, or has she truly been manipulated that badly?

Lucy is coercive, sure. but she is so clearly, literally, two-faced. from the very beginning, she relentlessly disregards and taunts Michelle. you would have to be pretty far gone already to fall for her.
