Imagine that Spock is working with a small science team on a project, and midway through a shift it’s apparent to him that one crew-member is really struggling, like they’re trying to hide their anxiety but it’s not working and they’re clearly tired and making mistakes

And he calls them aside as if to give them instruction and they look up at him with this frankly terrified expression and they’re thinking, ‘this is it I’m screwed’

And Spock says, ‘crewman, report to Doctor McCoy. You are dismissed for the remainder of the shift.’

So they head along to med-bay kind of confused but low-key panicking and when they get there they ask for the doctor and he’s like ‘I’m busy, where’s the blood’

And they say, ‘Commander Spock sent me, sir.’

McCoy just raises an eyebrow and says, ‘I see. Follow me.’

So McCoy gives them a vitamin shot and some sleeping aids and some reading material and mutters jokingly about Spock stressing people out

And the crew-member volunteers, “I-I thought the Commander was really gonna give me hell, Doctor, this is a relief, actually.”

McCoy’s eyes soften and he replies, “I believe you’ll find that Mr. Spock is a lot more understanding than you might first think.” Then he sends them off with a promise to eat a good meal before sleeping.

Later on McCoy chimes into Spock’s cabin and wriggles up behind him, wrapping his arms around him and thanks him for sending along one of his team-members earlier. “You did good, darlin’.”

Because honestly it was Leonard who coached him on recognising indicators of stress, anxiety and depression better. And when Spock mentioned that it concerned him that people found him unapproachable, Leonard told him to send the suffering person straight to him and he’ll put their mind at ease <33

HIGHLY foreboding thrift store omen

Me: Did you know that medieval cathedrals weren't actually supposed to be dark and rundown places with only stained glass as color? They were bright places full of light... the reason they look like that now is because of the centuries of accumulated grime and dust, here look at this restoration of the Cathedral of Chartres in France:

It's based on actual paint from the times, and when you think about it, it makes a lot more sense, after all a church is supposed to be a bright place of hope. Yet when we think about the middle ages we think about grimy and dark cathedrals. I wonder how much of our conception of history is shaped by our current visions of historical buildings.
