ISU had to replace two events on short notice (Russia and China), which is completely unprecedented. Additionally, a lot of feds are struggling financially in this still-recovering-from-COVID world. Organising a GP is a decent undertaking at the best of times, let alone on a couple of months' notice. The ISU would have taken just about anybody prepared to step up. It had absolutely nothing to do with Hanyu at all.

it’s also sad to see how against each other these girls are

to my eyes, alina and evgenia had a great relationship up to the olympics and lost olympics while doing shows in japan. it wasn’t until zhenya went to canada and eteri said the whole “zhenya asked why alina couldn’t remain in juniors one more season” that we saw them being cold towards each other, the ig followings….

i feel like this olympics they’ve been together more and maybe are in friendly terms again, not as close but closer.

meanwhile anna, aliona and sasha looked great in juniors and up to the 2019 gpf

then when sasha and aliona moved to aop things fell apart between them and anna was stuck in the middle of this (and to my eyes anna and aliona are closer)

and kami is just alone because she’s in the middle of a scandal and a media storm

Eteri shouldn’t be training them together during an Olympic season anyway. Orser separated Yuzuru and Javier for a reason.

the difference with 2018 and 2022 is that medo had already proven that she was the best in the world and many more golds to be remembered by (like mao in 2010), meanwhile sasha started the whole quad revolution and was told that when they reached seniors she was going to be the one to beat but has always been out behind aliona 2019, anna 2021 and kamila 2022.

i do not blame the girls for anything but it’s heartbreaking to see. we (almost) finish this olympic a with a bitter taste in our mouths because we have

an olympic champion who felt no emotion at all after winning

a broken silver medalist that had a mental breakdown after everything she’s been through and saying that she hates the sport and will never skate again

a bronze medalist who is happy, deserved more and can’t really celebrate because she’s being overshadowed by this

and a poor 15 year old who had gold in her hands until she didn’t. she’s now left with a positive doping test, a stain in her career which hasn’t even started, and mentally broken

i hope they all leave eteri and go somewhere where they can be happy, see a therapist asap and at least enjoy the exhibition gala to try and make their experience at the olympics from 100% terrible to just 99% terrible
