Literally every PTSD therapy would do more harm than good if it were universalized to every PTSD patient.
CBT, EMDR, fuckin art therapy, all of them. If you just require everyone to do them all the time instead of using the APPROPRIATE tool for the SPECIFIC person?
They ALL worsen trauma.
CISD is not special just because it was universalized for a decade or so. It is not an Evil Therapy That Hurts People just because it was misused.
Here, let me make it really simple. Most people with PTSD need to regain a sense of control over their life.
Declaring which therapies the patient is allowed to try instead of allowing for a patient led therapeutic process denies the patient the ability to build a sense of control.
okay so I have this idea for a new therapy thing. basically the idea is after an abusive relationship or a combat deployment or anything that might conceivably leave you with PTSD and a loss of ability to reasonably gauge how bad the shit that happened to you actually was, you sit there with a mental health professional for like, a solid 30 to 60 minutes, you tell them short vignettes of your experiences and they respond ONLY by rating how fucked up each one was on a scale from 1 to 10 and then you move on. the objective isn't to reflect deeply on specific experiences but to get a sustained series of reassurances that what you went through was, in fact, That Bad and gradually rebuild your trust in your own present and future ability to judge when what you're going through isn't okay.
currently calling it Rapid Fire Affirmation and Recalibration Therapy (RAP-FART). working title, open to feedback.

Mate, it's not my fault if bad fucking therapists look at someone who would NOT benefit from a debrief, and then debrief them anyway.
Debriefing, to be done successfully, has to be done to 1) people who are already voluntarily seeking out this type of social reinforcement because they've processed their trauma enough to talk about it to a therapist instead of having it pried out of them, and 2) has to be done with an eye towards trauma informed crisis care, namely knowing when to STOP and return the patient to their baseline status.
People being given the wrong kind of therapy for their situation is not the same thing as people already looking for this service.
There's a huge fucking difference between someone coming to their therapist like, "hey I heard about debriefing and I'd like to try it either with you, my trusted therapist, or with a group of people who survived a similar trauma," and your fucking university teacher making you reveal your deepest traumas to a class of strangers.

Working at the sex shop really did rewire my brain. There was basically no topic that was too taboo to talk about, and what little propriety I’d had evaporated. I’d be out walking and chatting with friends about erotica I’d had to read that day only to be shushed and realize people were staring at me.
It always struck me as a little bit silly but I learned to curb myself for others comfort levels. Mostly.
But I have one distinct memory of decorating holiday cookies with my parents and my grandmother. My mom had worked in a sex shop back in her day, and I never hid my line of work from my family, so I was telling a work story.
I was conscious that my dad was slightly more sensitive, so I was using pretty broad descriptions, but I happened to mention silicone lube and my nana asked, “What’s that?”
I went into full sales mode. Focused on the little reindeer cookie I was decorating I started info dumping, “Oh, it’s pretty great. Water based lubricants get absorbed through vaginal mucous membranes, but silicone is too dense and our body can’t absorb it the same way. So once you apply some silicone you never have to worry about chafing, and a little goes a long way. It’s especially popular with older women, because they start producing less natural lubricant and absorb water based lubes so quickly.”
There was a silent beat after this statement.
I looked up.
My mom and grandmother were looking at me with rapt attention, and I belatedly realized I was addressing two older women who probably would welcome extra lubrication.
And then there was my dad, blushing so pink with embarrassment that I thought he was about to faint.
“I can talk about something else,” I offered in apology to my dad.
“Like hell! He can go in the other room, tell me more!” My nana declared. My dad scampered off to busy himself in another room while I answered their questions and talked about brands and pricing.
I slipped them each a small bottle of silicone lube for the holidays.

“It wasnt the real mona lisa bc the real mona lisa was painted on wood and thats clearly canvass” versus “It was the real Mona Lisa, just suspend your disbelief for a second” — fam. Both options are good. Both options are great.
Either it was the real mona lisa, in which case, Miles Bron is a murdering idea-stealing phony who will be forever known as the guy who destroyed THEE mona lisa, and there is absolutely no coming back from that —-
OR, it was a fake, bc the museum was like “lmfao this joker thinks we’d loan him the ACTUAL mona lisa? Ahahahahaha” in which case, there’s all the initial press coverage of the explosion and the shitty fuel and the murders and then the revelation that THEE MONA LISA was destroyed on Miles Bron’s watch, and all of that plays out across the media, and THEN!!! the Lourve gets to step forward saying “dont worrry guys. We never gave him the real painting. We didn’t trust him with it. We gave him a fake and he never noticed,” which the media would have a FIELD DAY with, because it’s like the resurrection of Jesus only with a painting, instead of a person, and also, the whole thing is funny as FUCK, bc they gave him a fake and he didnt notice, and also-also, clearly the Lourve was ahead of the curve when it came to recognising Miles’ stupidity, and it’ll stay in the media for WEEKS, that Miles was conned by the lourve and clearly they were right to trick him because LOOK WHAT HAPPENED to the fake Mona lisa, PLUS of course all the rest of the stuff like the 2 murders and the hydrogen fuel and the idea theft and etc.
Like?? There’s no losing here. Both options are great. If it was real, then he’ll never live it down, and if it was fake, he’ll never live it down. Either way: fantastic

While it is true that driving with the speed of traffic is safer in ideal conditions, the thing you have to remember about speed limits are: weather and obstructions both exist, and so do cops and laws.
All of these are life and death factors separate from the fact that speed of traffic driving is "safer" (in most cases).
driving is so freaking fun guys dont you just love being in a big metal thing that can completely crush you if someone feels like doing stupid things on the road

LOOKING FOR PARTICIPANTS FOR CONLANGING STUDY!
Calling all conlangers! I’m Eddie (he/they), a conlanger and Master’s student studying applied linguistics. For my dissertation I’m looking to conduct some research on conlanging and the wonderful amazing people that do it! And if you want, you can participate in this research!!!
If you’re over the age of 18 and have made (or tried to make!) at least 1 language, you are eligible to take this questionnaire! And you don’t need any formal linguistics training or knowledge to complete it! I’ll also be conducting a few in-depth interviews (randomly selected), so if you’re interested in that part of the study as well you can indicate your interest in the questionnaire :-)
The questionnaire is on Microsoft Forms and split into two parts, so if you only have time/want to do the first one, it’s no big deal; Part 1 is more general (~15 mins), Part 2 is where you get to gush about a language you’ve made (avg ~20 mins)!
LINKS TO PARTICIPATE: Part 1, Part 2
DEADLINE: I’ll close submissions in June, but if you want to be considered for an interview, get it done by the end of May!
CONTACT: Casual or clarifying questions are welcome via tumblr (edsmore), but if you have more serious inquiries, you can find my university email on the information sheets located in the questionnaire forms.
(obligatory mention that this research is being officially conducted through the University of Oxford; information on data privacy/collection can be found in the information sheet provided in the questionnaire. The official flyer for this study with more information can be found here)
Of course this is all totally voluntary! If you’re interested, I hope to read about some of your cool languages soon!

why would you be unsafe at pride
I'm going to assume this question is asked in good faith and with a genuine interest in my safety. I'm also going to be very direct and blunt.
Jewish people are being targeted and attacked worldwide. Not just in right-wing spaces, but also leftist spaces. And yes that includes Pride and queer related events. If I want to attend pride wearing my kippah and my magen david, there is a good chance I will have some unpleasant words thrown at me, at the very least. There is a chance I will be physically attacked and/or kicked out of the march.
I would recommend spending more time listening to Jewish people on their struggle with antisemitism in the present. I don't mean that as a snarky comment, I just think listening to minorities about their struggles is a crucial part of activism. Hope this answered your question! If you'd like to ask more questions, feel free to reach out again, either in my ask box or my DMs
