one thing to be extremely clear about the deactivation of twitter in brazil:

the minister of the supreme court, alexandre de moraes, is NOT to blame in this situation. in brazil, racism, queerphobia, religious intolerance and much more is a *CRIME*, penalized by fines and even jail.

and obviously, ever since elon musk bought twitter, it was much more common to see people being openly bigoted, and straight up neonazis on the platform. no matter how much you reported them, their accounts weren’t banned.

so OF COURSE a social media that allows people to commit crimes of bigotry wouldn’t be allowed in brazil. especially as musk refused to meet the brazil’s supreme court’s demands of banning neonazis and making sure no one can just spread hate speech.

what alexandre de moraes IS wrong about is for implementing a fine of R$50k a day (or ~$8.9k a day) for using a vpn. many artists depended on twitter for a job, and many of them had international clients via twitter. in a country where the minimum wage is barely over R$1.5k a month (sometimes even less), this is absolutely outrageous.
