The year is now 1980. The magical community in the United Kingdom has been fighting a threat from the shadows for years now, as the Dark Lord Voldemort grows ever more powerful. His followers, the Death Eaters, wreak havoc at his behest, striking fear into even the bravest of hearts. But there are those who refuse to give into the darkness. Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, leads the Order of the Phoenix, a secret society of courageous witches and wizards determined to battle back against Voldemort’s forces. The First Wizarding War was never cut and dry, though. Each side comprised of more than simple heroes and villains. They were people, who lived and loved and fought and died. Each had a life and each had a story. What side will you pick and whose story will you tell? This is a canon Marauders Era spin-off roleplay of A Pyrrhic Victory, focused on the psychological horror of the war.

VI Quotes of the Week:
It was a scrap of gore. Or no, not some flying body part, but a piece of slightly ropey meat. At waist height? Something in his hind brain started screaming as he registered the scrabbling of something huge over cobblestones, and he looked up to see eight eyes fixed unerringly on his position. -- notlibatiusborage, Controlling the Uncontrollable
“YOU BLOODY ARSE! YOU CUT MY HAIR!” she gasped, feeling her cheeks burning with anger and the entire absurdity of the situation. She was just so tired of it all. The constant fighting, the taunting, the seemingly endless supplies of arseholes Voldemort was constantly pulling out of the sleeves of his robes. Every day a new threat. She was so fucking done with the war. Changing every aspect of her life. Even her haircut. -- cherrybomb-witch, Why Did It Have to be Spiders??

VI Quote of the Week:
So he’d survived long enough to get back here, especially now that his fourteen year old self and his three chin hairs (he felt very grown now he had them) were practically adults in the castle, and surely this would be the year when the younger students actually started to treat him like a more senior student. This was his pre-OWL year after all. It was undoubtedly very important. -- notlibatiusborage, Fistful of Tears
Admin Picks of the Week:
It was slightly amusing, though Edgar tried to keep his smile under wraps, when Igor continued on to explain that his family married foreigners to avoid marrying relatives. That was the difficulty, wasn’t it? So many British purebloods hadn’t bothered to try similar methods, as the rampant xenophobia was surely getting in their way. Edgar simply thought that if you had to think that hard about not marrying your cousin, perhaps your methods weren’t quite right. -- edgarbonesknows, How Far We’ve Come
That smile grew, half bitten back in an attempt to not embarrass him (he was also so self conscious) as she saw echoes of the gangly, unsure, awkward teenager he’d been, always trying for the right thing even when he didn’t know what it was, but he damn well was going to try and convince you that he did. She supposed some things never changed. -- asphodelroot, Odd Places

VI Quotes of the Week:
“You must know all the details, though,” she continued pointedly. Why bother trying to be subtle? She’d never been able to manage it no matter how hard she’d tried. “Since you’re so in the know. With your obsession with reading the papers, and everything. Do you think Death Eaters were involved?” Daisy propped an elbow on the table and leaned forward, wide-eyed, the picture of inquisitiveness. “I would love to hear your take on things. Since you’re soo knowledgeable.” -- perennialgrace, Afternoon Tea With a Side of Inquisition
Deeply invested in the future of this school and country? He snorted at that. How long had Snape practiced those words strung up in the same sentence? And now the man was seemingly complaining about how shitty the job was. He wasn’t aware he’d be entertained. But no matter how shitty life for a Hogwarts professor appeared to be, he was pretty damn sure Azkaban would be a lot worse. “I’m sure we could arrange a visit to Azkaban for you, if you wanted to have a taste of what could have been.” -- head-auror-moody, Of Days Gone Past
These. These were the moments when she remembered that behind those cruel masks, there were people. Actual people. Clumsy, stupid, impulsive, brave, shrewd. The thought was on one side comforting, since it reminded you that in the end, what you were fighting against was no more inmortal than you were. On the other side, it was enough to send chills down her spine at the idea that a human being could become so corrupted. -- cherrybomb-witch, The Sight of Death

VI Quote of the Week:
Drawing her own wand, Lily shifted Harry on her chest, shifting the edge of the wrap to shield his face from whatever would come. At least Tilden sounded confident and secure. Good. She could lean on that, rely on it to steady herself, even if some part of her knew it was shock. The same sort of shock that had her nodding back, striding with confidence towards the Cauldron, head down but eyes up, back slightly hunched, all with the intent of being a barrier for Harry, no matter what. -- asphodelroot, Riddle Me This
Admin Picks of the Week:
Snape heard footsteps and laughing pass the door and scowled at it, as if preparing to non verbally skewer the first student to walk through the door. None did. As their voices faded he strained to try and make out what they were laughing at. He was very out of the loop now. As a student with few friends and fewer social graces, he'd always worried that laughs involved him, and as a teacher, that distrust of giggling teens had deepened. -- notlibatiusborage, Of Days Gone Past
That day just kept on giving, didn’t it? First giant spiders, and now one of those Death Eaters that was clearly off the wagon with an appetite for chaos and not of the good kind. She enjoyed banter as much as the next fighter, but sometimes you just wanted your opponents to be quiet and give up like good little bad guys. Was it so much to ask really? Did they have to insist on trying to win aaaall the time? “It’s probably a case of the Fragile Egos” she thought ironically. -- cherrybomb-witch, Why Did It Have to be Spiders?
Ensuring the three of them were in a safe spot, he set out to scour the area. If he was in a more sensible frame of mind, or someone with a cooler head than his told him it was a bad idea, he would have reconsidered running out alone to try to find a Death Eater. Since he wasn’t, and there was no one else, it was all too easy to justify the action he was about to take as security. -- head-auror-moody, The Night Plays Tricks

VI Quotes of the Week:
Perhaps he was around to bother some politicians, to stage some one-man protest? He could even be there simply because he wanted to patent or request something for his line of work puttering with motorbikes. Sirius wasn’t there for any of those reasons. He felt nosy. He was bored. Restless. -- ruinousstar, Two Dogs Fighting
One day, when all this was over, he’d be a better friend. He’d treat Tilden better, be more open with him, help him [in as much as he could] with his research, and repay the hufflepuff his unfailing friendship. He didn’t like being a leech on Tilden’s kindness. Doubly when it required so much dishonesty. -- notlibatiusborage, Bad Reputation
Selfishly, his worry over them could also take a little break. It would come back of course. His worry never went away; it only grew. Not that he was necessarily conscious of it, though he suspected that if he made it out of the war alive, there’d be some great weight lifted. It might be replaced with something worse, a quiet voice echoed in his mind. He tried not to think about it. -- head-auror-moody, When in Doubt
