So Obama went to Taylor Gourmet for lunch today, a DC restaurant chain which has delightful wheat bread and a propensity to misspell my first name.

The man behind your sound: Audio pioneer Ray Dolby (not to be confused with ’80s pop star Thomas Dolby, an audio nerd who merely copped Ray’s last name) has died at the age of 80 of complications from leukemia. The electronics engineer was responsible for a number of important innovations in the audio and video industry, including the invention of a noise cancellation format which was commonly used for decades. He also co-invented the video tape recording process and helped create a surround sound technology you hear every time you walk into a movie theater. (The innovations made him a billionaire.) Above is a clip, produced by Dolby Laboratories, honoring its namesake.
