This has enabled our staff to be engaged and updated with the ever-changing technology changes within our industry. As is so often the case, our technical staff are familiar with the products and services, yet our support staff who are key to our service delivery, only hear about the inspection services we offer without a full understanding of what we are offering. Our Lunch and Learns go a long way to ensure we all are educated on the services we offer to our clients.

Kicking off our monthly Lunch and Learn for 2021 was a well-informed presentation on the advances of Digital & Computed Radiography within the NDT and inspection industry. Not only did our technical staff attend but more importantly our support staff embraced the opportunity to learn about a service they only hear about when they carry out project planning or when the invoicing is due.

Rather than using film, Computed Radiography uses image plates which retain the latent image. A reader scans the plate by means of a laser beam which encodes the digital image for transfer to a laptop computer for post-inspection, interpretation, and enhancement.

The advantage of Computed Radiography is that it’s highly portable, images are available on the spot, reduced exposure time, no film processing leading to no chemicals and environmental waste disposal. Applications include detection of corrosion under insulation, inspection of small-bore valves and fittings, welds and pipeline inspections.

Vertech has always taken pride in putting its people first. Through ongoing education and knowledge transfer, our staff are engaged and motived in their daily work. With a large group attending our January Lunch and Learn, is testimony to Vertech’s positive attitude and approach to our daily work.

2020 has seen many great successes for Geo Oceans, our team has spread their reach across the globe, we’ve celebrated our tenth anniversary, and unexpectedly won Subsea Energy Australia’s ‘Company of the Year’ award.

While our NDT techs have performed countless inspections across many industries, on the 17th November, a team of Vertech’s NDT and rope access technicians headed off to a truly unique scope, inspecting an art installation in the centre of Perth city (pictures above).

Located on Nash St in the Perth CBD, the structure is truly an amazing piece of art, but like anything subjected to harsh outdoor conditions, it needs to be regularly inspected for stress, cracks and corrosion.

Our NDT technician utilized Eddy Current on the weld attachment points which overcame the need to remove the paint for the weld inspection. We then performed a visual inspection on the wire rope cables and associated fittings. What made this project special was that the entire inspection was carried out by one of our specialised access teams using rope access.

Rope access overcame the need for expensive scaffolding and inspection time was considerably reduced without compromising quality. This all led to a better outcome for the client through efficiencies and cost savings.
