( kentaro sakaguchi , genderfluid , any ) — as the demons pour out of the sea DAEVA AKA MANAH makes their way to the shore, an eleven hundred and sixty-six year old creature who appears thirty-five. here with their feet planted on cynefin’s soil, it is images of a stone cold face, when they smile, it twists something ugly in your chest, an uneasiness you cannot name, pristine suit, cufflinks to match, an image out of a book, not a thread out of place, a vanishing spirit, flickering out of your sight so quickly that you are not sure if it was a real or a mirage, nightmares plaguing your dreams, a curious gaze twisting the knife of memories, just to see how you squirm, that flood the minds they touch. some may even say that they are proper and calm, but it matters little that they are untied by a sorcerer’s contract — they remain unabashedly fiendish and deceptive. beware, for demons are never truly kind. ╱ kira, twenty5, she/her, gmt+3.

there are tales of how verumfm is searching for the demon pretending to be a professor, which is demonic in nature. the records show that they are about 35+ years old and their photographs look like andrew koji, dian sastrowardoyo, janelle monae, lily gladstone, sinqua walls, gong yoo, nicola coughlan, sukru ozyildiz, aishwarya rai, arjun rampal, alex meraz, arifin putra, ario bayu, deepika padukone, elodie yung, may calamawy, alexander skarsgard, yoghurt nattasha, oliver jackson cohen, sacha dhawan, ilhan sen, lewis tan, liu wen, sanada hiroyuki, fan bingbing, fc ultimately utp. help us find them, but make sure that you speak to the admins at @verumfm on tumblr beforehand. this is their story so far: when the demons came on new year’s eve, a professor got lost in the woods and never came back. dead. but the verum term must go on, and being short-staffed during a prison of a mudslide is difficult. so they find a replacement, in a person that most in town swore up and down they’ve never met before. no one knows where the new professor came from, if they’ve simply been a reticent creature who avoided social interactions or if someone new snuck into the town a little prior to the mudslide. but the truth is this: no one has ever seen them because they never existed before the new year. this muse is a demon who took a humanoid form and walked into verum one day, inquiring about the open professor position. they proved themselves more than capable, and beggars can’t be choosers. of course, verum academy does not know the truth about them, but barely any background check was conducted in the first place. what this muse’s motivation is to play pretend at teaching is entirely utp! those interested in this position should make sure to read the posts here, particularly the “woodland (search) party” scenario in the event post. as this wc is for a demon, this is only open to members of the roleplay.

( hwang hyunjin , cis man , he/him ) — the halls of verum academy is home to KOSMA JEON, the twenty-five year old student of decomposition. listen to the whispers that follow them through the door of the death of the superego classroom, the ones about the quietest whispers tucked in the marrow of his bones / the chameleon ripples of his lies twisted around his truth / the ripest of the fruits unearthed from the pit of his casket / the slumber of the monsters hidden between his skin and flesh. once they graduate, their legacy will be one that is prodigal and adaptive in nature, but the records will not mention that they are known to be elusive and exploitative, too. they are, after all, the future of verum. ╱ rosé, 32, she/her, gmt+7.

there are tales of how navuluri is searching for their sorcerer, which is platonic / romantic / antagonistic in nature. the records show that they are about 29-39 years old and their photographs look like any appropriate fc, i truly have no preferences. help us find them, but make sure that you speak to nikki at @cynefinisms beforehand. this is their story so far: immortal meets mortal longing. of course, this kind of chemistry mostly happens in plotting for me; but navuluri is a fairly young and "new" demon emerging from the sea in hopes of being "helpful." their trickster nature makes this quite difficult, but they're bound and determined to make choices that may go against how they were born. this bond with their sorcerer is very much: i look up to you, i wish i could be you, even though i will never be exactly what you are. i can see there potentially being tension simply because navuluri gets eager and 'sparkling' and throws herself into things without completely thinking them through. this can be a wreck for a sorcerer who's the complete opposite of them! or, the tension that comes from seeing that your mirror is a creature that isn't supposed to be here. so on and so forth. this is a very open, very flexible connection!

( sobhita dhulipala , agender , they/she ) — as the demons pour out of the sea NAVULURI makes their way to the shore, a three-hundred year old creature who appears thirty-three. here with their feet planted on cynefin’s soil, it is images of spun & sparkling faerie floss unravelling sweetness melting upon the tongue beneath the driving heat of the summer sun ; the dampness unsettling the hem of a favourite saree, muddling it with the blackened turquoise of the water from whence you came ; brilliant smiles flashing cheshire-white in the night sky, so brilliant that one might be fooled into believing you fell from a constellation instead of rising from the mud ; the blinding nostalgia that sometimes glints from the fractured glass of an abandoned building you once gleaned memories within ; the dull light of a prayer candle with a silhouette kneeling before it, the coloured pigments upon your arms moving in clear rapture at being heard, that flood the minds they touch. some may even say that they are luminous and endearing, but it matters little that they are tied by a sorcerer’s contract — they remain unabashedly conceited and self-destructive. beware, for demons are never truly kind. ╱ nikki , 30 , they + them , est.

━◈ UPDATE on … the end of chapter i! with this post, we’ve officially concluded our event. we ask that everyone refrain from starting new chapter i threads, but members are allowed to continue existing threads. please see under the cut for additional ic and ooc details.

there were once tales, as ancient and forgotten as when verum once stood alone in the valley. new year’s eve was not a celebration, but a warning. candles were blown out as the swollen moon arched heavy over the sky. windows were shuttered against the whispering winds.

demons were able to appear in their true forms en masse due to the veil between worlds being thin on new year’s eve. they will not be able to do so again to wreak havoc amongst the townspeople, but keep in mind that this isn’t something known. as far as people are concerned it can happen again.

tension and paranoia are running high as word begins to spread that demons can in fact appear as humans. neighbor begins to eye neighbor in suspicion.

deputy headmaster benjamin langmuir and mayor sidhant sharda meet in private to discuss what moves are to be made to protect and settle people. they have a disagreement on how best to handle the situation.

OOC DETAILS

the in-game date is now january to february of 933. the new verum school year semester begins in mid february. students are welcome on school property and may take winter break lessons before the term begins if necessary.

as many demons take on humanoid forms to mask their true forms, folks may begin to see faces that they have not previously seen prior to the mudslide. these may or may not be demons living amongst the people of cynefin and verum academy.

we’ll allow everyone to settle into the new reality with the demons and the mudslide before we introduce a new plot drop.

as a reminder, the mudslide happened in early to mid december. no one has been able to come in or out of verum since then—except for the demons.

( pedro pascal , agender , he/him ) — amongst the faces lining the staff portrait wall, you recognize VICENTE VALDEBENITO VALDIVIA, the fourty - nine year old professor within the school. having spent eighteen years as a member of the verum staff, students say that they’re reminiscent of laughing, life's jovial but the demon takes a peak and makes their presence known, it's extremely familiar and almost comforting but suddenly you feel their hand rest at the small of your back to nudge, to not get distracted and suddenly it's a grim reminder; destruction is your way of death and not too much longer you'll rest in the cradle of hell's arms, warm but boiling from the inside out; an object that sits there, loved by all but the years go by and you're forgotten, hidden inside a closet, broken, and covered in dust. you're pretty sure they forgot that a thing like you existed but you stay, hoping, that someone will come along and greet you like an old friend they remember from years and years ago. their humble and humorous temperament brings color to these halls, but be warned, you may also find them to be devious and evasive. regardless, hopefully they’ll remain when it’s time for verum to open its doors again. ╱ cassi, 31, he/she, est.
