a bell rings, and in she walks, and says, “hey, guys!”

aj presses some buttons on the register, bored, says, “wow, you came! incredible! we super weren’t talking about you—“

“fuck you, asshole.”

“this is a family-friendly environment, charlotte, and i will kick you out—“

charlotte interrupts him, sick of his voice, “do you wanna make out, mae?”

“oh, yeah, duh. i thought you had intimacy issues, or whatever, so i didn’t wanna press, bit—“

and charlotte grabs her shoulders, starts kissing her, gently—the verb make-out is hardly applicable. mae’s glasses press awkwardly into her face, and she laughs as she pulls away.

“fuckin’ hate the taste of caramel.”

violet beach, in summary

violet beach is a fiction podcast written by a gal called bee hyland. it’s a fiction show, vaguely within the genres of “sci-fi” and “dramadey,” but, like, who needs labels?

what’s it about? i’m glad you asked. it’s about a group of seven people in a maryland college town who happen to witness some weird happenings! and, unfortunately, they can’t really do anything about it, because they’re pretty far off from being the chosen ones.

if you’re into lgbtq representation? we got it. if you’re into prosey writing where the fuck word is still used? we got it. if you’re into metanarratives? we got it. but we’re not too in your face about it, which is nice.

season one is already out, and season two is coming out in the spring!

i’m gonna hop away from racism/sexism/homophobia/etc bc those obviously need to go, but they’re also too easy to answer this question with.

people who don’t talk like people. your character can say something with meaning and still sound like an actual human. words don’t always work! if you’re speaking on a whim, it’s not poetry!!! this is so obvious and it’s such a whiny critique from me but. I know I say this to all my irl friends like once a week, but if you are interested in D&D, podcasts, or both, you should really check out @damesanddragons. It’s an actual play, all female cast 5e d&d podcast and it’s absolutely great. The story is original and interesting, the party has a great dynamic because they’re all friends, and it has so many libraries (which we all know I’m a hoe for). You can find the podcasts on soundcloud, so if you’re looking for something new to listen to, I highly recommend it.
