Visits from his twin were never expected, Vergo would even say unwelcome unless it was truly necessary. It was never anything he had against his twin, they got along well, he always reasoned it as both of them being in the same space when they shouldn’t have been there. Time that was spent idly chatting was time not spent helping the Family. That was at least what he thought.

Yet, he wouldn’t deny that his twin’s presence was nice. The conversations always felt that much more intimate because they shared the same line of work, and for the most part whatever bothered the other would be solved after. It seemed, however, that his older twin was exhausted lately because he’d never fall asleep so soundly otherwise. It wasn’t a matter of trust even. His twin refused to show signs of weakness, a visible proof that his body was at its limit. Admirable, yet equally foolish. There were ways to go beyond one’s limit that didn’t involve burning out.

He let him rest against his shoulder, for quite a while. Vergo’s eyes were on the pages of records he needed to check, some he even reached without stirring the other. Half an hour passed, then a full hour, then some time more. His shoulder felt sore from being used as a pillow and he figured it was enough.

Vergo got up from his seat on the couch, letting his twin’s head fall into the cushions. “ You’ve slept enough. I’ve got work to do... and so do you. ”

Sleep was never an easy thing when in the middle of a mission and so far away from home. However, every once in a while when body would succumb to exhaustion Vergo didn’t care where he was, wouldn’t pay specific attention to the noise outside, be it his men or animals.

It happened to be such a night.

Sleep came quickly, body relaxed, senses went dull. Until a feeling woke him up. It was not the sound, it was not the presence itself, it was a feeling of all things, one that bordered with instinct for survival, that woke him up. Quietly he descended from his room in search of the source, only turning on the lights when his eyes adjusted and he noticed the presence. His voice was raspy, but the words themselves rang clear, serious, guarded and suspecting. They were not supposed to be here. In that room.

Is he being annoying on purporse? Yes. Is it Vergo’s fault? Yes. That’s what he gets for being home late after all. And honestly, the blond wanted to know just how much he could push the button… Knowing Vergo, that answer was quite obvious though.

“ Getting minks won’t be as easy, Doffy. ” What does he mean not supposed to be an army? What is one gingerbread cookie against enemies when he can have a whole army?

He stepped forward, bringing a gingerbread cookie to Doffy’s lips. “ Imagine a talking cat and a wolf with me then. ” He found it adorable over the years, Doffy’s unique ways to tell him he had missed him. He always missed him too. “ Sorry for being late. I do plan to stay longer than usual to make it up to you. ”

“Vergo!” whiny voice, feigned dramatics as he draped himself across the couch, not at all paying attention to the glass he had been graciously offered: “You’re supposed to come storming in on the back of a white horse and a gigantic gingerbread cookie as your ally!”

“ I see... ” Immediately he turned around, walking out of the room the same way he has entered. All the way down back to the kitchen to find a gingerbread cookies.

He doesn’t have a horse, but Doffy can imagine it. Vergo barged on the doors this time, dramatically entering with the same serious expression as always. “ Your hero has arrived with gingerbread army to save you. ”

“ I was in the kitchen, grabbing drinks. Here, ” He hands over the wine glass. “ A toast to gods and men, and everything. ”

      Glancing over towards the entering man, Loki narrowed their remaining eye then looked to the side, remarking quietly with their own forked tongue flicking in and out of slightly agate lips.

      “ No that is fine… ”

      Loki remarked simply, lifting their head up while they leaned down to pull up the towel to at least be a little more comfortable for another to see. They sighed lightly then sat down, the serpent closing their remaining eye whilst one hand set delicately below their chin. An apology for nothing–at least that’s how Loki saw it, there was no issue to showing scars…

      “ Did you want something? Come for knowledge again or something different? ”

Glad that the elder wasn’t uncomfortable with the situation and simply brushed it away, with a few long strides he was in front of him, an old book in hand extended for Loki to take it.

“ I found the book during my mission. Some of the characters are used in today’s Alabastan, but most are unknown to me. I assumed you would know and perhaps be able to read it. ” He sat down beside him, watching for any sign that might give away if Loki was familiar with the book. Or if he was even interested in the first place.

“ No translation anywhere, no one can read it. So, my proposal is: if the book is of political value and can give some useful information, for the next hour I’ll answer any questions you may have. If it’s a novel, fifteen minutes for your cooperation.” If Loki lied and just went for an hour option, there was nothing he could do about it. He’d just trust him.

Softly his fingers squeezed Doffy’s hand, a confirmation that he was there with him, no one else to break the moment they were sharing. Gaze rested on his features, lips that spoke words he knew no one else heard as his other hand traced the outline of his jawline, fingers going through blond hair in appreciation.

“ You’re awfully romantic today. ” A teasing remark before he smiled, warmed by the words alone. It was rare for them to enjoy each other’s company like this lately, and every moment was a memory to hold dearly.

“ We’re always connected, Doffy. It doesn’t matter in which way, we just are. And we’ll stay that way, forever. Don’t tell me you’re doubting our abilities? ” Cheekily he added, knowing well that thoughts of Doffy made his work that much easier. He did it all for him, and they both knew that. “ Once I retire from the Marines you’ll have all of my time and undivided attention. ”

DR. FACILIER - Does your muse have any supernatural connections? 

None in most of his verses. Vergo is really just a normal human for most part despite his nickname. In his buzzfeed unsolved AU that I’m writing with Json, and his general demon AU that I haven’t added to the verses page, he is an actual high ranking demon with special abilities able to take corporeal form and mix among humans. What he does in either of those verses, be it hiding his supernatural self or openly showing it off is all up to him and his mood.

At one point I’ll probably have more AUs (because of someone) where Vergo may have some other supernatural connections, but those AUs I first need to come up with.

LEFOU - What does your muse love most in other people?

Intellect. Vergo is a smart guy and is by default attracted to other intelligent people, always more than happy to indulge in long conversations on different subjects. If he is interacting with someone who doesn’t satisfy the need for intellectual conversation, he most likely will cut it as short as possible. He also likes confidence and honesty. Honesty is very important to him as he does consider honesty the premise for a good relationship, be it professional or personal one. Being someone who has to lie daily, he is aware how rare it actually is.

MADAME MEDUSA - How does your muse feel about children?

He loves his son and generally ignores other kids or is nice to them, but he absolutely can’t stand brats. He does know many kids like to explore things and aren’t always happy to get disciplined, and while he doesn’t expect every child to be a good soldier, he does expect respect. Brats tend to ignore that and end up pissing him off. So, his feeling towards children really depends on the child itself.

MALEFICENT - What is the cruelest thing your muse has ever done? What is the cruelest thing they’re capable of?

This really depends on what is morally worse: torturing and killing people or kidnapping innocent children and making them part of human experiments? Or both? He’s done a lot of cruel things throughout his life and kidnapping then torturing and ultimately killing a child would be the cruelest. What he’s capable of is left to his own imagination, because there’s no limit to that.

MOTHER GOTHEL - Would your muse want to live forever? Why or why not?

Yes and no. Yes, if it means living with Doffy forever because he’d absolutely love that, but at the same time no if it’s a world without Doffy because he’d find it boring and tiresome. Vergo would like his immortal life to be surrounded by his best friend and family (and they would all have to be immortal too) because they’re the only thing that matters to him, he wouldn’t see any point in it all alone.

PRINCE JOHN - Does your muse act their age?

He does. Vergo is rarely if ever childish, rarely does he even relax in a form of lazing around, and to see him act that way would require trust and bond no one but one man has with him, and even in that relationship he’s the serious and adult one. So, yes, as someone who had to grow up faster than most kids, he does act his age.

HORACE & JASPER - How well does your muse work in a team?

Vergo is a team player for most part. He is able and will lead a team if it doesn’t have a leader already, taking responsibility for anyone involved and coming up with best course of action on the spot while maintaining the morale of the group. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise as he is a spy, a Vice Admiral and Doflamingo’s right-hand man, which only proves he does possess the needed qualities of a good leader. He is also very adaptable, be it people or situations, so he doesn’t have a problem with following someone else’s orders or leadership, especially if that leadership is the best for the group as a whole. In a two-man squad, he likes to discuss things with his partner and make sure they’re both on the same page and supporting each other the best they can.

CAPTAIN HOOK - Does your muse have any triggers?

He does have a few. Needles, the sterile smell of hospitals, surgeon scalpels all remind him of his childhood as a human experiment, so even if he won’t (in most cases) show any emotions or reactions to them, he will most likely have a nightmare the same night.

Badmouthing Doflamingo or disrespecting him are triggers to anger him, just as disrespecting himself is as well.

To be given what most had denied him, kindness and friendship, as cheesy as it sounds. Vergo was Vegapunk’s and Judge’s experiment, a prototype, someone who hadn’t known love and the feeling of closeness to someone. He never had a place to belong, a place to call home.

The reason for his loyalty to Doflamingo was never because he was a born king, as Trebol would often state it, but because he taught Vergo how to smile, how to be happy, how to share joys and sorrows with someone. The bond between two boys abandoned by the world (each in their own way) that only ended up strengthening as they grew up, promises and dreams made, experiencing the same things together and watching each other’s back set his decision of always sticking with his friend in stone. And the reason that would set Doflamingo apart from anyone else he might’ve encountered is simple, neither of them had anything material to offer to the other, nothing they could specifically gain from another, they were just two poor boys. The only thing they had was friendship and they offered it, and that easily became Vergo’s greatest, most valuable treasure.

Vergo is intimidating in the sense of professionalism, so his spartan posture and attitude do come off as threatening at times, expecting the same attitude from his subordinates or colleagues. He himself is a perfectionist so his standards are relatively high even when others are involved, but his real fear-invoking intimidation comes to light when he’s angry, when family or Doffy specifically is insulted and he’s ready to kill.

Experienced fighters are generally able to tell where they stand against him, but rookie pirates and brats often underestimate him and pay the price for it.
