THE OTHER IS LIKE yeah I will admit that the other one about dragon soulmates was pretty decent but the writing is so ass I genuinely felt poor for the first time. If they’re from the same author IM JUMPING OUT THIS WINDOW. (There’s a whole ass fic they made that had me and my friend gasping and throwing up by how bad it is like bro I MIGHT need to make a whole blog about it)
AND BRO YES LIKE THEY WERE SO INTO IT FOR WHAT??? LIKE YOU CANT TELL ME THEY WERENT DATING AT THAT POINT OR THEY ARE SO OBLIVIOUS OF THEIR BLATANT FLIRTING ITS CRAZY. I got jumpscared when I saw Sisco like OH I forgot you were still here man. AND THE ANIMATION BUDGET WENT HARD FOR NO REASON THERE??? POKEMON??? BEYBLADE BURST??? AND ANIMATION????? BRO IS ABSOLUTELY DEVOURING WHAT THE HELL
It's so much slower on here than on Procreate but I'm still so proud 😭🫶
Genderbent AU w/ Free vs. Lui w/ Free winning w/ his giant Snorlax bc @blueberryscones30 mentioned it and I am obsessed.
Free doing the Z-Move and winning with it is totally @blueberryscones30's idea, as well as Lui having a Baxcalibur and Garchompite.
At the end I used these videos for Free's Z-Move:
Snorlax's Z-Move Pulverizing Pancake - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwcQ6FWhkcQ
Snorlax Snorlium Z move - Pulverizing Pancake! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSwNHs-mgCc
I got so fed up with tracing at the end I just kept the original video and slapped it together.
I wanted to make a comic but this took hours. maybe tomorrow if I don't crash out over school again. (I have an impressive rank in a medium to big class -- i'm proud of this 😭 -- but that's about it since my motivation has crashed and anxiety looms in my background. if I really want to go out of state I'ma need to score highly in HOSA or VASE but again don't know how I'm going to force my neurodivergent brain into it.)
Anyways Free's supposed to be wearing khaki capris but then I remembered maybe she would wear a skirt? I wanted to give Lui joggers but idk I feel like he would overheat very easily and by that point, I realized you could only see them from the waist up soo...

Love how Shu is so damn confused and yet he’s so much more popular than all of them (I’m not sure if that’s on purpose BUT BRO IT WOULD THO)
OMG A YEAR AGO i thught of something like. could u imagine if the beyblade burst characters had twitter. valt treats all of his followers as his friends. free refuses to have a pr manager and literally says whatever tf he wants. shu rarely goes on twt but when he does its absolute chaos. lui ragebaits everyone

They would have an interesting dynamic, but it’s so awkward it’s unconventionally funny. Like they’re both hella close to Valt that they are bound to see each other one point in the month, but they don’t have many fond memories to reminisce over or share many topics of interests. It’s kinda like, they are friends and refer to themselves as friends, but they’re friends because they share a main friend and wouldn’t often talk to each other unless they were forced to. So their interactions would most likely be like:
Free returns from his mini-training journey when Shu visits BC Sol for Valt. The three chill at the dining hall where Valt is talking about a new protagonist-like kid he met online or a random event that happened. (“Kit said I couldn’t eat ten croquetas at once, so I said, ‘No, I could eat TWELVE at once’ and we starting shoving all the croquetas Ange made while pushing each other for the next piece. And well…” Shu is listening as if it’s the most interesting story he’s ever heard, while Free side eyes them with a knowing look). A junior then asks Valt for his advice and like the good senior he is, he’s like “Ha, okay, okay- I’ll be there. Be right back!” Then when he leaves it’s suddenly the most driest conversation ever.
Shu: So, how’s training going?
Free: Good. How’s the Raging Bulls?
Shu: Doing well.
Tumblr media
i rlly wish free and shu had more interactions cuz i do believe they couldve been friends. maybe not like CLOSE close friends but defintiely friends. can you imagine valt, shu, and free being a trio
valt (very excitedly): Hey, u know shu kurenai too? Thats my best friend ya know!!! hes such a talented blader and the coolest and he used to be one of the supreme four back in japan!! hes so talented and he makes the best pasta ever, i'll make sure to share some when he visits!!!! Shu's the best!! i hope hes doing okay!
free: hmm.. yea.. heard of the guy
---
shu: Really? You know Valt? Yeah, I've known him for years, actually, since we were kids. (warm smile) I wonder how he's doing. If you ever talk to him back at BC Sol, tell him I said hi, will ya?
free: i get it now
shu: ???
free: you guys are gay... for each other

Like I actually watched it in dub first and bro. BROTHER FREE WAS SO TEASING MAN LIKE I CANT WHAT. It can’t be coincidence that the best acting scene for me that stayed in my head rent free was when Free teased out Lui’s name AND IN DUB. LIKE IT CANT COINCIDENTAL ANYMORE

FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT RAHHAIAKALAL- and also bro, SEASON 5 WHEN THESE TWO WERE TOGETHER, THEY WERE ACTUALLY DRIVING ME CRAZY. (Btw I watch in sub, so the episodes may be different) Episode 25 when Lui and Free were together, they were so GLAZED WHAT. Episode 41 you CANNOT tell me these two weren’t flirting. (Random one shot I made in a few minutes rewatching the scene)
Awakened, Free saw the impending doom that Sisco carried. Without thought, he waved down and shouted his command to Fafnir. Yet, with just an arm’s length away from Satan, a hand pulled them away to their embrace.
“Did you think I’d let you go?” He looked up, body engrossed in those eyes of purple. “Really? Free.”
~
Shot and out. A turn wasn’t needed for Lui to acknowledge Drum’s loss. Smiling against the adrenaline, he pointed Longinus to his new victim. The mediocre blader who wielded Satan. Rather than the expected burst, he was guided away to the rails instead.
“Did you really think I’d let you go?” He looked up, and the world honed in at the boy in yellow. “Lui.”
Tumblr media
Chat please, you gotta hear me out on this one PLEASE-
Also Drum is basically their love child I swear. He has Free’s yellow hair and did attend BC Sol for a year and a half-ish. He has Lui’s blue flaming hair and shares his engineer skills/creativity (No body had that launching station before Lui, so it’s most likely created by Lui, and he most likely created all those gimmicks in his island to train). He shares both their dragon themed beys and their intimidating looks (Free and Lui knows how to be perceived as threatening - Lui does this intentionally - while Drum does this unintentionally through his anxious glares). Plus, he doesn’t fear Lui at all, even before they got close, and was able to bond with him the fastest. Not sure how he is with Free, but since he is close with Valt he probably hung out with him from time to time.
HAAAIII!!

When Red Eye said that Shu was dead, he meant it metaphorically.
It captured how he felt at the time, after all. How his humanity was slowly slipping away, how his whole world seemed to be collapsing around him.
Then the Reqiuem Project happened.
Shu died, in there.
It took him a few weeks after Valt won the International Blader's Cup to realize what was wrong. To realize that he couldn't feel the wind on his skin anymore, that every bite of food tasted more like a memory than anything real. Words come softly to his ears, vision wavering and half there.
He's nothing but a ghost now, a pale afterimage of the eleven year old boy who wanted far too much. Haunting himself and the world with the shadow of his own mistakes.
Maybe that's why it's so hard for him keep his nose out of other people's business. Why he runs around the world to meet with Aiger, why he tries so hard to train Lain, why Pri's story horrified him so. Those kids could burn themselves up so easily, he cannot live with himself if that happened.
Well. He's not living with himself anyway.
He doesn't know what it is that keeps him here. Maybe some magic of Spryzen's a kindness or a curse the byproduct of merging their souls together. Maybe it was the electricity running through whatever that green fluid was. Maybe it's just a quirk of the world, just bad luck.
He spends a lot of time atop the Raging Bulls roof. A ghost has no reason to fear the fall, and sometimes the shouting kids and laughing Bladers and life of it all gets to him. He feels awfully alone then, and somehow being up here, with the wind that whips through him that he cannot feel for company is better.
It's been twelve years now. To the day.
He hasn't told his parents that yet another of their kids fell dead far too early. He's kept it secret from his students, from his teammates, from the rest of the bey club.
He doesn't know how he could possibly begin to explain this to Valt. Valt, who almost makes him feel alive. Valt, who reminds him day after day what love is like. Valt, who never believed he was gone even in the face of all evidence.
Does he want to move on?
He knows that there's something out there. Something beyond this watered down existence of his. Some place where he could wait and see Valt again. Some place every other lost and lonely spirit must pass onto without decay.
It must be beautiful.
And, yes, he wants to be there. He wants to sit in the golden grass and feel the wind push his hair to the side. He wants to be able to cry and blink and have his age be more than just some illusion in everyone's mind. He want something normal, some semblance of a humanity he turned his back on to quickly, or at least whatever should come after life.
It doesn't even feel possible. He was doomed to become something unnatural and twisted the day he set foot in that giant metal tube. Maybe this is his punishment for trying to become to great, for a hubris and anger that let him become so easily manipulated.
It's been twelve years.
He hopes there won't be twelve hundred, twelve thousand, twelve million more.

I was absolutely loving salt as their ship name as a joke, but lowkey these chemical reactions are making it slay.
Also, since they usually have their moments near the ocean, the salt could also relate to that. Since the ocean is salty.
Alright, since this fandom is majorly lacking in ship name creativity, it’s high time we made some up.

Where are the beyburst high school aus??? I need Lui and Valt campaigning for student council president (a la season one finale) and Aiga being an annoying jock and Wakiya just beaten out of valedictorian by Shu. Teachers meet Ranjiro and are like “oh, you’re Rantaro’s little brother🙄😒.” Gilten/Glass is the principal of the sister school that’s cleverly named with a snake pun. Rideout is the cool kid group/super good ice hockey team (the kind of good where the pep rallies and homecoming dances are for them instead of the football team). The Superstars are a famous teen band that started in a garage and got suddenly hit it big (whether that’s a good thing is debatable). The Beigoma Bey Club get paired together for their final project after they have chance interactions with Valt throughout the school year, and just form a friend group. The Supreme Four are the class council. Phi and Hearts are either teachers or super seniors or maybe aged down to be regular seniors (aren’t they, like, twenty?) Free is the new kid who was homeschooled previously and proceeds to clock everyone at everything, be a master in everything he does, and generally is a nuisance and an icon. He joins debate to antagonize Lui and shocks everyone by being amazing. Shu fights the school for a peer advocacy group after what happened with Glass and the kurenai kids just keep coming. Drum joins cheer after being dared by Fumiya in an effort to humiliate him, but turns out to be really good and gets a ton of recognition for it. After many efforts by the entire cast, Shu and Valt finally kiss on prom night. You see my vision.
(Can you tell I love aus? Canon is great and all but you gotta be a little spicy with it sometimes)

WAIT YOU'RE WATCHING BSB..... please tell me your thoughts on it so far. explodes also if you're watching dub i'd recommend switching to subs, i can link them on google drive or if you use any totally-legal-TM anime sites they probably have em
I AM!! Finished the first season too 💪. This may become a little bit of a rant but not as long as my previous ones, trust. But anyway, I did pick sub - 100% would never use dub for Beyblade - and I personally loved it.
Each character is AMAZING. I know it’s your typical kids anime where the power of friendship is everything, but man I love how each arc worked to develop everyone.
Takao is one impatient yet considerate boy who does what he can to help others. However, adding onto his impatience, he also is quite stubborn at times, which I don’t really mind. He uses such a basic formula, but I still love him regardless.
Kai is the typical antisocial guy with a dark gloomy backstory. I love his progression in trusting the BBA and bro the entire ice-cracking scene where he was about to drown WAS BEAUTIFUL. How the hole wasn’t anything dangerous - honestly, he has the capabilities to get out - but he DOESNT just represents Kai’s situation with Russia’s team. He knew that place was dangerous but he continued to stay for his path to power. Moreover, he knows he could leave and return to the BBA, but he doesn’t. AND HOW EVERYONE THEN OFFERS THEIR HANDS TO HIM HAIAKAOQKAK. They don’t force him by dragging him out, but rather give him the choice to accept, and he fucking does.
Max is BRO. I love how goofy yet emotionally intelligent he is. Say what you want, he definitely was the mvp keeping everyone together. He could practically understand when something was off and would try his best to soothe the situation before it got worse. Also I am extremely weak whenever he sees his mum, like GAH. I know she means well but man when she ignored him, I was ready to jump her.
Rei is my favourite, like he’s just so cute. I love his desire to travel around the world and introduce the skills he learnt to his clan like HAIAKA. Also, the way he’s the most abused kid is crazy chat. I know Kai is, thanks to the whole og Snake Pit organisation, but Rei was getting kicked around during the series. Yuriy chill, he is not going anywhere please.
Also looking back, Burst copied a lot more from BSB than I expected. It ain’t a lot, but I could definitely see where they got inspiration from. I ain’t gonna say they did it worse, but this anime did MUCH more explaining. Especially what these sacred beasts are. It’s hella cool and it makes more sense why Beyblade is such a popular sport. They’ve been using them for years in wars after all.
Also I made a whole origin story of how Burst got their beyblades, and watching it get said WORD BY WORD - aside from the names - in this anime made me feel like a scientist seeing their theories come to life. LIKE BRO I CANT BELIEVE I GOT MOST OF IT RIGHT FROM SHEER DELUSIONS AND BURST’S LACK OF INFORMATION.
A bit of a complaint about the dub. After finishing everything, I decided to rewatch the last episode in dub. Bro, what just happened. They dumbed down Takao and lessened the danger of him being trapped is an ICEBERG. They made Yuriy into a stereotypical villain when he’s not, and changed a lot of characters too but I didn’t really get to see much of it before dropping. They also changed the meaning of the episode, like how do you even do that? It’s also the most retold message ever too. “Friendship beats anything!” Why was it changed to sheer power??? Plus the acting is so awful that the only time it sounded genuine was when Takao’s eng va sounded confused. Same here man, same here.

I need an AU of Lui based off this information where he is a royal training to be a warrior taking care of birds that oddly resemble a phoenix RIGHT NOW.
aiakaskakam- I love it when I see more appreciation for my boy. Makes me shed a tear. Also the whole thing being Canadian actually makes so much sense. He fought Suoh before and it isn’t too farfetched to believe that everyone assumed that he came from the US since he did travel from America (which is a continents).
hello to all the lui fans and supporters! today he's the victim of my deep-diving tendencies so let's see if there's anything more we can learn about him from his name. starting with his surname, shirasagijō (白鷺城), which is comprised of three kanji:
白 (shira) - white, innocent
鷺 (sagi) - heron
城 (jō) - castle, fortress
there is very much a "castle of the white heron" in japan, also known by its more famous name - himeji castle (姫路城). built around the year 1300, it's one of japan's most famous and well-preserved castles. it was given the name shirasagi-jō due to its architecture being inspired by white herons taking flight (and until this day there's still herons in the area!) but why would they model an entire castle off of a bird?
in a lot of olden japanese literature the heron is depicted in a negative light, occasionally even as a yōkai (suspicious spirits). in sei shōnagon's "pillow book", which serves more or less like a diary, she writes "鷺は、いとみめも見ぐるし。まなこゐなども、うたてよろずになつかしからねど" / "the heron is ugly in appearance, especially in the eyes. it has creepy eyes which aren't cute." the yōkai artist toriyama sekien has an art piece called "aosaginohi" (青鷺火, "blue heron fire") depicting the bird transforming into a yōkai while being engulfed in blue flames:
Tumblr media
chances are the heron met the 50/50 quota for being graceful enough during flight and having a scary enough reputation to have something as important as a royal castle / fortress based off of it. a graceful building for those inside, and a warning sign for any outsiders. and i think all of this fits lui pretty well! his appearance (especially his eyes) can be considered scary, and unless you know him personally you probably will be shaking in your boots every time he appears. due to this reputation that he has we've also seen a lot of characters refer to him as an oni (to a point where even his island is called 鬼が島, onigashima. this is also a real thing in japanese mythology.) and that can fall under the yōkai label as well. also the art of the blue heron fire... like c'mon. boy's hair is literally blue flames. and his feathery white boa? certified bird boy he is /hj i was gonna end this off here because i thought there wasn't much that can be said about his first name, BUT, according to japanese wikipedia, ルイ(rui, or as we know it - lui) is actually supposed to be the name "louis". a name from french-speaking counties first and foremost which means "famous warrior". since we know lui comes from a country abroad, and suoh trained under him in canada out of all countries, i think it'd be safe to assume lui is originally from one of the french-speaking provinces of canada
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you read through all this tysm and here's a picture of our unhinged boy with his boa resembling a heron taking off

I’m glad this post helped clarify his character!!! I don’t blame you for not understanding him in the show, since he isn’t always in the spotlight compared to most characters - despite him being as important as Valt but I digress. It’s a shame really, considering that he has so much potential to be this interesting well thought out character, but whatever. It makes it fun for me to dig into.
And YES on the Lui and Free dynamic!! Honestly, they’re the only pair that I know of that plays this role and work. And I fully agree that these two should have interacted more in Sparkling, like I love Sisco and Free and Lui and Drum, but man it feels like some wasted potential. Cooler enough, even with stronger opponents like Valt being found, the two still maintain their rivalry towards each other! They were literally in their own worlds when their tag teams were against each other I swear.
(And yes he’s the Loraz. Why else is he yellow and hangs out in the forest ☺️)
Free Rant!!!
It’s been a while since my last post of this type of content, and what’s more better than celebrating the start of V-Force through a character analysis/yap.
I’ve stated this before in Lui’s rant, but this kid is a genius among geniuses, and I’ll stay firm in that belief. I’m not sure how old Kurt is and through the series’s immense range of talented kids, it’s kinda hard to say he ain’t one. However, it’s clear that he does have some sort of parenting style to all his underlings, so probably a solid 16-19 year old. Plus, he wasn’t titled this ‘young genius’ to be 12-13 at God, so he probably had the belt at 11-12, and after two or so years had passed, he retired to start an underground club.
Regardless, he dropped the belt due to the lack of rivals and Free most likely picked it up through a selection tournament funded by the WBBA. It’s implied that he rarely found anyone that rivalled his strength before Valt, due to his carefree and nonchalant attitude. While you could argue that those qualities are just his personality, his lack of caution towards Lui - who was labelled a genius in Japan and several Asian countries for 4-5 years - is a pretty big sign that he hasn’t found anyone worthy.
With that said, I’m not going to say he didn’t work hard to get the title. I’m fairly certain he put in a lot of effort to beat everyone there. However, I wanna bet that he improved so much that he was on a whole new level compared to everyone else by the time he won the belt.
Now here is where my genius/talent ranking comes in. The average player would have a natural talent of 50% towards Beyblade. For Free’s case, in consideration of his strength, bond, and intelligence, he is 80-85%. So, as people put in that 30% of extra effort to catch up, he could do the same and remain beyond them. I want to imagine he finally found some opponents that encouraged him to use more effort, but once he became stronger, suddenly no one else was.
Back on the ‘rarely found anyone strong enough’ topic, this can also be backed up through that effort list. Let’s say your training is just as tedious as Shu, Lui, or Free, through time you will one day get used to it, right? When Free got back into his training routine, he was clearly having a hard time. However, like the stubborn boy he is, he doesn’t stop pulling that damn boulder. If he were to train usually, he wouldn’t have struggled that much. Sure some grunts and sweats would be produced, but screaming with your heart out as your sweat evaporate? Yeah, his body is definitely not used to it yet.
Another is how he was forced to forfeit against his battle against Valt. Again, if he were continually pushing himself, one day his body will get used to it and last longer than normal. However, after one round his body was already acting up and he could barely move a muscle after the second. Each round is like, 6-12 minutes long so he barely even used his strength for an hour, barely half of that really. Plus, this was the next day after he went extreme on Lui, so he had a whole nights worth of rest to recover.
So he barely practiced and he hadn’t found anyone worthy after he become champion for a minimum- like bare, BARE minimum- of two years. Sure it might seem short, but considering how renown and popular Beyblade is worldwide, he’d have to fight a lot of bladers daily. Alternately, he is barely seen to have any battle requests when Valt came in, so he most likely displayed such a strong performance that people felt discouraged to challenge him anymore. However, that could be due to the lack of care Free has to even accept challenges. So that isn’t much of a point I’d use to back up this claim.
Another point to include is his selflessness. As any young blader, he’d want to find more rivals to improve himself. It’s a normal thing anyone wants really. Despite being so much stronger than everyone in BC Sol, he never left till he confirmed Valt’s strength. I’m going to say it, the team was holding him back. Hell, they relied on him solely to get through their battles. Free isn’t an idiot and knew that. Yet despite that, he lets it happen. This was already stated in the anime, but it’s obvious he loves the team. To a point, he’d rather stay the same person than let it fall. Does he openly show his appreciation to the team? No, not really - which probably hints at him loving the team back when they were a powerhouse with different members. But that doesn't invalidate his emotions. It’s why he looked conflicted whenever Alexander brought it up while trying to recruit him. He wasn’t wrong, and he hates that.
After analysing Valt, he saw the potential that he could unlock in his team, and left to fulfil his desires. Unlike what the show does reveal in most cases, Free isn’t so two-dimensional. He is selfish. He still wants to improve. He still yearns for a battle where he could finally go all out without winning in a second. When he saw Valt, he took this chance to leave his cage. Kristina also wouldn’t be ignorant to this either. She had been with him since childhood for godsake, she would definitely notice his want to improve. Which is why she puts in no fight when he resigned. It was an event that was bound to happen eventually to the two. So he leaves Valt behind to fix the holes, while he goes out to explore the world. Only to get slapped in the face realising he was the strongest in the world.
I’m not saying he is one more than the other, it’s more so that he cares enough to stay and help. But once he is a given an option where he can work on himself or follow his desires, he’ll take it as fast as possible. Of course this trait does change throughout the show once his main goal had been explored. He definitely has character development guys. It’s called being more self-considerate to yourself. Especially his health. God forbid a character for caring about their physical wellbeing.
Since we’re on the topic of Free’s perspective on others, I might as well talk about his dynamic with Lui. I will admit that the trope it followed is better shown with Sisco, considering that they are in the same team and have more screen time together, but I like a challenge these two give. Plus, it’s more interesting, sorry. For clarity, the two that they base themselves on are the genius/hardworker trope. Lui is shown to train himself to the bone to keep up with others while Free can do the minimum and produce the same results. They’re the extremes on opposite sides simply. If they were to interact, how would it happen? Surely, there wouldn’t be much positive feedback. But they do, in an unexpected sense.
Before Cho-Z, Lui needed to work hard as he saw himself as imperfect. He projected himself as someone he wasn’t to hide his flaws, and trained himself endlessly to fix those weaknesses. Judging by the raise of hours in his later training sessions, this habit did not grow better and that he barely saw himself as worthy. To fix these holes, he needed people to train with and overcome their ranks. It was why he sought out Gou. He found someone worthy and trained with him to grow stronger. However, with his intelligence, he progressed faster than anyone. Who, before Drum and Valt, could he find that wouldn’t fall the same fate?
For Free, he probably wanted more rivals than strength. While his trip to the Raging Bulls was a disappointment, to me he appeared lonely. Uncomfortable at times, really. Judging by the lack of international journeys he’s taken, I’m guessing he handles home sicknesses badly. Rather than be stronger, he truly wanted someone who can accompany him through that journey. It’s the main reason why he hangs out with Valt so much. He was the perfect person who could train with him that could be beneficial. However, this aspect obviously didn’t appear till he travelled abroad and faced the truth. Before then, considering that he hadn’t met Valt until God, so who could he find that could fit that description?
Each other. NOW HERE’S WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING. These two only saw each other for their benefits back then, but these evolved into something more. Let me explain.
While Lui found someone worthy, his training partner turned out much stronger than him. To the point that it becomes the sole thing he focuses on. I mean, he doesn’t normally overlook battles but he did so for Free and got disappointed when he didn’t get sent up. With such a bright goal, he doesn’t bother thinking about things like friendship. Aside from distracting him, they don’t serve any purpose other than adding empty words to their discussions. This desire to grow stronger is shown in the God Tournament when Free and Lui battle. Despite the concern he had seeing him go extreme, he was happy to see it happen. It an act he did himself after all. However, he was also forced to acknowledge the power gap that separated them. After months of hard work, working harder than anyone he has known, nothing worked. It’s frustrating. So much so that all he could do was scream before walking off to the next battle. (This was cut in the dub, unfortunately) As it may be, this relationship started to sow positive reinforcements for him. That being his acceptance of Free’s shortcomings, like his unexpectedness and tardiness. Lui would want control, so being in a situation where he had nothing would be uncomfortable. However, since it was Free, whom he wanted to overcome, he began to dismiss it. Sure he made comments, but he doesn’t bite hard. In the show, he was also shown to reveal more of his real personality by smiling genuinely and initiating a few conversations. While brief, it’s an improvement. Before he could notice, he began to feel comfortable around him. In a sense, you could say that he played a factor to make Lui be more considerate.
To Free, Lui was nothing threatening to his title, but he wasn’t too weak to easily win against. While it isn’t ideal, it was a good enough playemate to him. Throughout their dynamic in that training-playdate session, Free didn’t take their battles seriously and mainly kept a smile. He makes light jabs to Lui and often dismisses his claims. He didn’t see Lui as a rival, but moreso as a friend. One that would point out their flaws, like a friend who insults another for their height (though I wouldn’t put it past them). That was why it was such a big surprise to Free when he finally pulled the rug beneath him. For all their time together, he missed his hard work and was rewarded with a stolen burst. It was why he started training when he returned to BC Sol, rather than relax and think little of it. While the revelation was good, it only made him annoyed for not noticing. Pulling off the opposite reaction he wanted. As any prideful guy, he grew stronger and asserted his power over him in the God Tournament. In that way, Lui played a major role in making him pull out his A-game in the tournament. Well, earlier that is. Valt still played a much bigger role in pulling his full game.
In summary, Lui only saw him as a training program, while Free saw him as a playmate he could toy with. However - with Lui’s hard work and Free’s aloofness - it helped improve both their cons. Moreover, their relationship continued to stabilise in later seasons like Sparkling. They don’t bicker - or ever really - and they respect each other at a mutual degree. Despite them finding other people that fulfilled their roles better, their time together was significant enough to stay together in a peaceful still. Plus, it may or may not just be me, but I swear the anime was glazing these two together. Like man, what a way to bring my hopes up.
I hate how in certain fics or head canons - if they haven’t been mischaracterised already - where they make these two enemies, like… no. They aren’t enemies. At worst they were two friends who used each other to fulfil their wants. But even then, they are on good terms AT THE END of the series. Like Shu and Valt, they have a pretty close bond guys. It’s just hella underrated, for valid reasons, due to the lack of screen time they had.
This is where this becomes more, ranty. While I was watching Sparkling, there was one moment where Free suddenly acted out of character. (@blueberryscones30 basically inspired me to make this thanks to their episode analysis). It was in the scene where Sisco and Free blame the stadium for their loss. Okay, let me just unwrap this.
1. Free is an adaptable guy. Why the HELL couldn’t do it then??? In God, when he was against Sisco and had his absorption attack negated, he was shown to perfectly adjust his plan to win. Actually, he played around with his idea for a bit before landing an excellent win. Adapting to a stadium is well within his capabilities.
2. I’d blame this for bad writing, but Lui literally does it. If he, a blader who is commonly known as someone weaker than him, WHY CANT FREE DO IT??
3. Why the hell is Free blaming the stadium for his loss. Like, do NOT agree with Sisco, you are better than this. Actually, you are more like Lui here. ‘Your performance is based on you, not the base your bey stands on,’ type mentality. I’m not saying he should win every match, but blaming on a stadium? Like are we being fr here.
Another minor rant is the elementals in Quad-strike. Alright, I haven’t watched the show but I have been spoiled of the elemental feature they use. While I’m happy that my theory is now canon, I’m very disappointed in how they executed. But today is not the time to say why. So apparently from my friend source, the four elements are fire, water, wind, and lightning.
Uh, what happened to Earth??? WHY IS EARTH NOT THERE. If they give me the excuse of “But no one would fit the Earth conditions” THERE IS A FINE EARTH SPECIMEN RIGHT HERE. His name is Free De La Hoya and he speaks for the trees. Hell, other characters like Aiga, Laban, ans HYUGA are shown to have a connection to Earth. Guys, there was NO reason to remove that element. If you wanted to add lightning, then go ahead. Why did that need to replace something like Earth.
This accidentally went into a semi-rant about Lui and Free whoops.
