You know what Dracula is about. It's a good book. I have two options for you to read it. Get the book from basically anywhere. It's public domain. Or sign up for Dracula Daily to have it sent to you in emails over the next months. The story is told in journals, letters, and newspaper articles, so this lets you experience the event on each day that they happen starting today, May 3rd.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
It's a book about growing up, romance, and being a geek. The main character is a shy girl who loves to write fanfiction. Her twin surprises her when she says she doesn't want to be her roommate in college, so now she has navigate socializing in a new place on her own. (You can borrow it from the library.)
Star Wars: Leia, Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray
May the Fourth be with you! I love both of Claudia Gray's books about Princess Leia. This one is about Leia as a teenager preparing to take greater responsibilities as a member of the royal family of Alderaan. (You can borrow it from me.)
The Way of Kings Prime by Brandon Sanderson
Long before the Stormlight Archive that you know and love, Sanderson wrote his first version of The Way of Kings. Many years later, he released it on his website for free. It is a very different story from the official TWOK, so you won't be bored because you won't know where the plot is headed. Also it is super interesting to get this peek into how the story began and think about how it later evolved into the published version. (You can download it from Sanderson's website.)
Are you kidding me? This home, an all-time favorite of mine, is still on the market? This is a duplex built in 1962 in Lake Tahoe, CA. It has a total of 5bds, 3ba, $699K. The current listing has removed more than half of the original interior photos. But, I found them. You'll see why they removed them, below.
So, it looks like we walked into a formal dress party going on. Except that the guests are creepy mannequins.
There are so many. Can you imagine having to use that bathroom, or go into the kitchen, in the middle of the night?
What is that one doing on the floor with a spray bottle of glass cleaner? The kitchen's going to need some repair and the whole house needs updating.
This one has a pet chicken. I can't even comment on the house, b/c all I can see are mannequins. Although the house looks unappealing.
There's a fireplace hidden behind all that statuary and gold stuff. Looks like a baby mannequin on the couch. There's some religious statuary thrown into the mix, also.
What in the world is going on in this room? There's a guy who looks snobbish in this mix.
There's a half naked one with a bunny by her butt.
Children, a dog wearing pearls, and a naked one standing behind the Blessed Mother.
This one in the bedroom has her hands on her hips, looking like she's mad b/c you stayed out late.
I don't even wanna know what's under that sheet.
There's a statue, but no mannequins in the bath.
Since you're buying the whole house and it's a duplex, you have to tour the downstairs unit, too. It has a spacious living room. Looks more modern than upstairs.
Open concept layout.
The kitchen is newer, but look at the dents in the appliances.
They have a too-large table for the space.
Bd. #1.
The bath looks a bit bigger than upstairs.
Bd. #2. Really, the only interesting thing about this house is the mannequin collection.
Well, this is different. It's a 1956 mid-century modern in Kansas City, Missouri. 5bd, 2ba, and only $250K.
It has a small sunken living room. What is that column thing on the pony wall?
This is really a small living room.
I thought this was a bar off the living room, but apparently, it's the kitchen.
So, in this corner is the kitchen with a glass block counter and an area for dining.
Looking from the kitchen table, you can see the living room and entrance.
The front door and stairs to the upper level bedrooms. Interesting feature there on the right.
Here's a very angular room. I think that it may be the primary, but I can't be sure.
Note the decorative inset with the illuminated map above the bed.
Is this a bedroom? I don't even know.
The bath is very interesting. I don't know which I like best- the turquoise fixtures, the storage unit, or the funky tile ceiling w/the special cubby for the light (or is it a fan?). I'm so confused.
Maybe this is the primary? What could be in that triangular thing? Recessed lights?
The doors open to this deck.
This long area of the bedroom has dressers and stuff, plus a very long closet.
There are more storage options along this wall, but they're mainly open shelving.
Here's a small bedroom, but it's a good size.
And, this is the 2nd bath. There are just 2 in the house.
The 5th bd. is also pretty roomy.
The back of the house actually looks kind of normal.
The garage is around the back. No wonder the 1st fl. is only a living room and kitchen. 6,342 sq. ft. lot.
Attack on Titan Colossal Edition #1 by Hajime聽Isayama
Refresh your memory of the series before watching the final anime episodes by reading the manga. You will also enjoy understanding elements of the story in a different light than you did at first because of things that were revealed later. (Available from me.)
The Pearl that Broke its Shell by Nadia Hashimi
Half contemporary fiction and half historical fiction. It is the story of girl in Afghanistan who is a聽bacha posh, a girl who lives as a boy for a while for her family鈥檚 benefit and then has to adjust to becoming a woman and losing the freedom she had as a boy. It is also the story of one of her ancestors who had some similar experiences. (Available from the library.)
Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson
The first book in the Reckoners trilogy and the first Sanderson book I ever read. One day, people start getting superpowers! Problem is, they all turn into villains. A group of vigilantes without powers works to figure out their weaknesses and bring them down. (Not set in the Cosmere.) (Available from the library.)
The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
Fantasy novel about a thief who talks a little too much about his accomplishments and gets caught and thrown in jail. He is given a chance to regain his freedom when he is recruited to steal a mythical artifact for the king. It's the first book in a series of 6, but it can be read on its own. (Available from me.)
Thanks to Curieously for sending in a dome home like no other. This 1996 home in Minneapolis, Minnesota is just like any contemporary home, except that it's a dome. 4bds, 3ba, $599,900.
See? It doesn't have white curved lumpy plaster, the walls are made of wood.
It's an attractive home with a balcony, regular stairs, and plenty windows for lots of light.
It's an exceptional home that's been beautifully maintained.
The galley kitchen is a proper kitchen and there's a pass-thru that runs the entire length of the cabinets.
On one side of the kitchen is an everyday dining space, and on the other side is this dining room area that opens to the deck.
Not sure if this bedroom is the primary.
It has a nice en-suite and it's big with a feature wall, but I think it's a secondary bedroom.
I would say that this is the primary. It has room for a sofa and doors to an enclosed porch.
Isn't this cute? It's like being in a treehouse.
Love the emerald green sink and tub.
Room for a home office overlooking the living room.
The ladder goes up to this great loft.
Downstairs there's a spacious rec room.
Plus a shower room.
This is the 3rd bd. down here.
And, this is the 4th. I like the floor and the lighting around the room.
On the back of the home there's a porch on the upper floors and a deck.
Nice big 3 car garage. I like the way the dome comes up over it.
