International Archives Day
June 9 is International Archives Day. It commemorates the day the International Council on Archives (ICA) was created in 1948. On International Archives Day, archives all over the world will host special events to show off their collections or the work that they do, and will share stories with each other and with fans of archives worldwide using the social media hashtag #IAD17

The International Council on Archives was established in Paris during a three-day meeting of archivists from June 9 to 11, 1948. Its purpose was to strengthen relations among archivists of all nations, to promote the use of records, and to advance the documentation of human experience.
In Celebration of International Archives Day on Friday, June 9, the National Archives in Washington, DC, will show a selection of short films from  U.S. Information Agency under President John Kennedy’s administration.
Read more about the origins of International Archives Day and the National Archives’ role in the creation of the ICA at International Archives Day from the Piece of History blog.

you guys know you can get USB connectable CD, dvd, and blu-ray players right. and you can buy external hard drives with crazy amounts of space for an amount of money that would make the average person from 2009’s head explode bc of how cheap it is. and if you do this and get ripping software such as handbrake for CDs and DVDs and makeMKV for blurays you can both own a physical copy of whatever media you want and make it accessible to yourself no matter where you are. do you guys know this

VidUKon 2025: Past Forward Vidshow Recs Wanted
I'm VJing "Past Forward", a VidUKon 2025 vidshow showcasing fanvids that use older media (1980 and earlier) cut with modern  music and editing styles. I would love your recs for fanvids that fuse the past and present and give a fresh perspective on familiar sources.
Click here for my Google Form for recs!
Tumblr media
FAQ
What types of sources are you looking for? Films, TV, Books, Comics, and anything else - as long as it features a source dating from 1980 or earlier.
What do you mean by modern music? I don't have a hard cut-off year for music and I don't know what I don't know. So, if you know of a Metropolis (1927) vid cut to "Revolution" by The Beatles (1968), send me the deets and we'll check the vibes.
What do you mean by modern editing styles? I'm particularly interested in vids that do something new with the video sources. This could be in the pacing of the cuts, masking, overlays, cropping, on-screen text, source audio, etc.
Can I rec a vid I made? YES! Self-recs are very welcome!
Are you accepting Premieres for this vidshow? A hesitant, yes. This is baby's first VJing gig and I anticipate a learning curve. If you want to submit a premiering vid for this show, it would be due by April 6. Please shoot me a message first.
More Questions? Feel free to contact me using the message system on the platform that led you to this form.
Many thanks, JinkyO

Toastystats: F/F stats (Feb 2025)
Happy Femslash February! <3 I have new stats about big F/F ships and F/F-heavy fandoms on AO3. For explanations, clarifications, and corrections, please click through to AO3.
Edit: note that "foreground" as used here means "works that are nearly guaranteed to be mostly about F/F, because the other largest shipping categories (F/M and M/M) are filtered out." That definition reasonably demotes some F/F ships that are mostly background ships, but it also overly demotes some ships like Catradora that have common F/M or M/M background ships. I've edited the post to add graphs of the fandoms and ships with the most F/F works overall, in addition to the those with the most foreground F/F. Click through to AO3 for longer versions of all these lists, as well as for more explanations.

Submissions open for Issue 2 of Let's Talk About Vids!
Let's Talk About Vids is a zine for talking about vids - otherwise known as fanvids, AMVs, edits, etc.
It was partially inspired by the regular Anatomy of a Vid panel at the VidUKon convention, in which vid watchers choose a vid they enjoy to analyse in depth.
I felt like there was an appetite for more analysis of vids, more detailed discussion about the artistic process of making vids, and more places to share vid recommendations. This zine is focused more on the artistic side than the technical side of vidding, but of course sometimes the latter will come up as part of the conversation!
The first issue of Let's Talk About Vids is available HERE.
The second issue of Let's Talk About Vids will come out sometime in the next few months. It will be a PDF e-zine!
The content of the zine will be made up of submissions from folks who want to talk about vids! The zine is seeking:
quick vid recommendations, for vids both new and old (from 1 sentence up to 100 words)
responses to a discussion prompt (1 sentence to a few paragraphs)
longer pieces that explore a specific vid in depth, whether a close reading or something else (200-1000 words)
vidders' reflections on their artistic process for a specific vid they made (200-1000 words)
longer pieces that explore a specific vidshow in depth, either by the VJ or by someone else (200-1000 words)
If you have an idea for something else not listed here, get in touch! Also these word counts are guidelines to give a rough idea for folks who prefer to have parameters, definitely not a hard and fast rule.
Before you make your submission, a couple of things to note:
1) If you are writing an in-depth piece about a specific vid or vidshow, please do your best to get in touch with the vidder or VJ to ensure they're comfortable with it first.
2) While this zine is a space to talk in detail about vids, right now I'm not up for hosting and moderating conversations about what vids got wrong or could have done better. Submissions should be focused on what you think the vid/vidshow does well, what is interesting to you about it, and how it gets its point across.
3) There's no requirement for any particular level of: formality/structure, vidding experience/knowledge, spelling/grammar, etc - if you've got something to say about vids, say it in whatever way works for you! I may lightly edit for spelling and grammar if needed.
4) You can submit ONE longer piece, ONE discussion prompt response, and UP TO THREE quick recs.
You can make submissions HERE until 30 March.

Art is hard & complex especially if you're really good at.
Disclaimer: Don't watch the video if you don't believe videos should be reuploaded if there is no trace of it anywhere else on the internet. The only reason you are able to watch this video at all is because another You Tube user backed it up before the original artist unalived her account and any video uploaded on it for unknown reasons. The following is a comment on the reuploaded video. People wondering where Moonlight Mashups is: I was a friend of Gigi (moonlight mashups). she chose to leave due to personal reasons and it was hard for her. she tried leaving a few times over the last years but couldn't bring herself to do it and finally she deleted the channel so she could properly leave. I love and miss her as we all do but we've just got to respect her private reasons. I sometimes wonder how many works are removed due to copyright vs User's right to remove their own work for various reasons. Hmmm? Again, don't watch the video if think it shouldn't have been reuploaded and have a nice life. Otherwise enjoy if you're going to watch it. It's one of the best "Mashups" I've ever seen. Happy International Women's Day.

Mulder: "Sharing Vessels? Is that what they call it nowadays?" Scully: "Yes, Mulder. You're just jealous because it sounds like an alien ride-sharing program the government is covering up." 😉 Mulder: "This new guy is called Mark. Apparently, his wife was presumed dead but could be held captive by some form of corporate cult espionage? His partner "Helly R" is supposedly helping him find her while there are working on project together? Sound familiar? I see a clear conflict of interest here. Don't you think?" Scully: "I understand what you mean but in these kinds of missing person cases everything is related. What do think the FBI would think if they knew you and I were using FBI resources to search for your sister. You'd have to recuse yourself. The whole X Files department could be viewed as an unnecessary expense. 😉 I just happen to like the fact that she and I share the same last 3 letters in our name, but I am a little concerned." Mulder: "About what?". Scully: "Well I don't keep up on this stuff much but apparently she has a twin sister who runs the organization she works at, but no one has ever seen them together." Mulder: "Not only that. I hear the whole town seems to suffer from some kind of mass schizophrenic personality disorder. It may have to do something to do with the water in the town. This would make a perfect X File" Scully: 🙄. Of course, it would. I think Mark and Helly can handle this on their own. By the way, where are you getting information? Mulder: Scully, you'll never believe this Scully: Don't know what ever gave you that idea. 😏 Mulder: I know a former medical professional who used to work at the company. She is a currently in hiding and is working with someone on the inside. The person she is working with is an insider working on the outside. Ironically, at the company this insider also works in the basement like I used to do. Scully: What's her name? Mulder: I can't say but just like The Lone Gunmen her initials are firearms related.

If you live in the USA and you're pleading for donations to pay your rent, bills, or get food then dial 211! Please dial 211 before the last minute!
It's a toll free service with people who will help you find programs in your community to pay those bills, find food, and find housing! They will give you numbers to call so you can get help.
It is not 100% foolproof. Their job is to direct you to a program they believe will help your current issue, but it's still a step up from praying random strangers online will give you enough cash before a deadline! The added benefit of these community programs, which get funded by the local government most of the time, is if there are more people using them then they can get more money to help more people.
You're not taking resources from other people if you use your community services. Your taxes pay for them. Use them.
Dial 211 first to see if they can help, and if for some reason they can't, then make your donation posts!
