Khakee
Just a thought…

A normal discussion with my brothers provoked me to write this. Are we really safe? The blindfolded trust that we have on the “KHAKEE” is at what cost. “The police are not here to create disorder; they're here to preserve disorder.” quoted by Richard J. Daley.
I think every common man in the society looks up to the police officials in their Khakee dresscode with trust and dignity. There is an unsaid trust that is handed over to a human being with the KHAKEE dress code. Every city has their personal slang to relate with these officials. I personally have great respect for all the officials. There have been enough encounters when I have seen them working hard for long hours. A festival for us is an extra work shift for the police officials. As a child I would always want to see my dad and mom around me during vacations & festivals to enjoy with them. Many a times I wonder what would the family and kids of the security department feel like?
Witnessing such incidents throughout my life till now, I had a lot of expectations from the Khakee officials. I would always think that given any problem they would help me find a solution.
In fact, I also had a kind of firsthand experience with these officials some years ago. To give a better understanding to the situation let me tell you that for some years I had shifted my base from a small district place to a Metro city for educational purpose. I was so excited to come home for a vacation, to meet all my friends & family. Navarati was on its way to make us all dance on its beats. Festival fever was felt in my town and every where I could see advertisements and banners coming up the city. Everything was running smoothly when suddenly riots broke between two castes. It was the first time my city had experienced something like this. The whole city was under curfew for eight (8) long days. That was the time when I had witnessed the maximum number of police officials; also I got knowledge about the special departments in the force. I live in a one way kind of society which has entry and exit only in one direction. In those days all the society members would make tea, coffee, breakfast and lunch & dinner not only for the families but for the Police officials as well. The officials use to sometimes come in small batches else dad would parcel it and handover to the police official outside our area and they would have a quick bite in their respective location. The incident had increased the worth and dignity of Khakee and the Khakee personals in my head. Years passed; I graduated; worked for a while in the metro and shifted my base back to my small little hometown.
I am a creative personal on the go; as I use to travel a lot so did my work. The technology helped me keep track and be presentable with a wizard called LAPTOP. All my meetings, personal moments & their memories were stored in these wizards memory. I use to take a routine backup of everything I needed. Being optimistic is also a feature to my personality; generally I tend to see the positive sides of the situation.
I was so excited to start working on my new desktop; eagerly waiting to get back to work. The shift from laptop to desktop was not a convenient one, but well it happened. Why it had to happen? It occurred because my laptop had got FLICKED away. I mean “Hell man! How can you (the robber) do that! That’s so cheap of you! ***” Ahh! Had to start working again on a new system, but didn’t have a choice at that point of time.
On present day, every minute counted and was waiting for one of my brother to come and do all the necessary installations on my new system. My eyes sparkled at his glance but my jaw dropped. “Bhaiyya abhi mein aapko hii call karnewali thi”, I said. He looked around and said “Kyoun, light chali gayi kya?” as small droplets of water were felt on his forehead. I smiled and he got the answer. Time lapsed and we were talking on everything that we could waiting for the electric connection to come back. Suddenly I felt some cold breeze on a hot Monday afternoon & saw the inventor guy come in to fix the problem. Everything got back to routine, so did me and brother.
I felt like it was the first time I was goanna start using a computer; the excitement beneath made me ask several questions. Everything was falling in place, the screen resolution, the harddisk partition and so on. Finally we were set to install the much awaited softwares and data that I needed; so I handed over hard disks to my brother who was doing all the installation. He calmly checked both the disks and questioned be, “Where is the DATA?” I responded with a little worry “usmme hi hoga, thik se check karo!” He rechecked both the hard disks while I was bitting my nails. What he said later made me furious.
The very first instinct I had was “WTF”. I got pissed on my real brother. He had taken the laptop for an event and someone robbed it from there. We had already spoken over this earlier, but this time I was very upset with him. There was so much of data in there and unfortunately I had taken only a very little backup from it. I had lost everything and the fact made me very upset.
I called him in the cubical and blamed him again for not lodging a FIR. He gave me a crisp look and said what would have happened even if I had lodged a complaint. I was zapped with that question. Within that moment the incident of curfew took a jump in my head. The thought was interrupted with “What do you feel, I am not feeling bad? Is it only you who has lost the data? Do you think I am Mad to not go and complaint?” One after another his questions followed and the only thought I had was “I don’t care, if you would have complained we would have got our Laptop back.” The conversation was on between both my brothers. “Bhaiyya aap boliye, mene kya galat kiya. Jab mere mobile chori hogaya tha toh mein complaint ki thi. Moblie ka Original Bill, IMEI number, Box, sab kuchpolice station mein submit kiya tha. Aath (8) mahine mene police station ke chakkar lagaye fir bhi police wala ne bola ke mobile nahi mila. Toh is baar toh mere pass Laptop ka mikar code bhi nahi tha, toh fir police mujhe kya mere laptop dhundke deti? Aap hi samjho didi ko!! Mein unko botla hoon toh merei sunte nahi.” I was listening to all of this very carefully expecting the other one to speak in my favour. The moment he spoke I was shocked again. “Aree tu sun uski baat, who sahi bol raha hai. Humko FIR lodge karke aissa lagata hai ki humara samman humko wapais milega but aisa kuch nahi hota. Yeh sirf hamare satisfaction ke liye hota hai.”

All of this made me feel uncomfortable. I have so much respect for all the people who stand straight up in the worst situations for the betterment of society. There have been countless scenarios when the Khakee has saved the society on the cost of their lives. They live in small unhygienic quarters. The residential address keeps changing frequently; so does the work address & profile. Enormous sleepless nights with the unimaginable bravery at the cost of blood and sweat is put in to keep the common man safe and secure. A life so hard, with peanuts in pay cheque is taken away home with the smile on face.
THEN WHY ???
Why??? Do we hear such things about these brave men? Chunkful of spoiled mangoes have made the Farm dirty & taken away the faith.
“Awaiting a trustful wave to come and disguise the curse from KHAKEE to a boon.”
