it's kinda weird and very telling how often sex tourism and racism goes completely unmentioned in discussions about chasers.
like there's a strong idea of what a chaser is to white girls in rich countries but like....you go on literally any given chaser forum and it's guys talking about how much they love visiting south east asia.... or about bringing girls from south east asia over to the US, or targeting girls from south east asia in the US. the racialised element and how it relates to imperialism goes really jarringly unmentioned.
I mean just fucking look at what US soldiers keep fucking doing and getting away with! that's not "less important" because it's happening to girls in the Philippines or Thailand instead of Sydney or New York.

Since, idk, it feels like a topic vaguely worth broaching, let's talk briefly about LLMs and poetry translation. First, let's take one of the poems I wrote today and plug it into DeepL:
Tumblr media
and into Google Translate for good measure (I honestly feel like recently Google Translate has largely closed its quality gap with DeepL)
Tumblr media
Ok, these are both pretty bad, but to understand that, let's try my LLM of choice, DeepSeek:

Ignoring the unnecessary glazing of my poetic prowess, this interpretation is obviously miles better as it's able to make several connections simple mtl cannot. I was particularly impressed that it managed to tie the reference to Mt. Hiei to the phrase "the great biwa" and decode that it meant I was referring to Lake Biwa. Does it miss some things? sure: Given that the second line ends with the dative particle に, it should be fairly obvious to a human that I'm referring to the color/gemstone 翡翠 and not to the bird being startled, making the interpretation there a little shaky, and since it's trained overwhelmingly on modern japanese, it misses that おどろきて is a kakekotoba, that leverages both the more common modern meaning of "to be surprised" with the more common classical meaning of "to notice", also its interpretation of the reference to the lapis lazuli is a bit superficial; it doesn't quite grok the reference to "Hiei's jade slopes" as the seasonal indicator that it is, and so it misses the actual original intent with which I meant it, where I notice the green slopes of Mt. Hiei and observe that the snow is melted, and remark to myself that the coming spring and summer will be hot and think of the waters of Lake Biwa, while also remarking at its beauty (also it misses a decidedly modern reading that is also in there where I am surprised at the early date of the melting of Hiei's snow cap, bringing thoughts of Lake Biwa's lapis lazuli depths as a source of floods)
I guess I really just wanted to talk about this poem really but also I do think LLMs are decidedly decent at poetic analysis

By now, you all must have seen the news that Gaza had officially run out of food, as one of the main aid suppliers in Gaza, World Food Program, had announced that their stock has been completely depleted, leaving just a few days for community kitchens to function.
This comes after more than 50 days (and counting) of Israel's complete closure of the borders, preventing food and medicine, among other life essentials, from entering Gaza. There are children crying out of hunger with trucks loaded with over 100,000 tons of food mere minutes away from them, which Israel continues to prevent from entering besieged Gaza.
This also comes after Israel had deliberately destroyed swaths of farmlands in Gaza, specifically targeting them with bombs and chemical weapons that destroy the chance of growing crops. Israel also made sure bakeries are destroyed as well as water sources.
Diabolical is an understatement when it comes to the Zionist entity.
There are still things you can do. On top of raising awareness and protesting when possible, independent organisations like APN are working directly with farmers in Gaza to rehabilitate the agricultural sector and restore local food systems to combat famine, counter the blockade and build food sovereignty. You can donate to their Revive Gaza's Farmlands initiative here.
Additionally, keep in mind that this means whatever food supplies remain available in Gaza now cost astronomical amounts of money, so keep sharing and donating to individual fundraising campaigns. Gazafunds is a good source if you're not sure where to start. Remember that your donations and shares are often the only source of hope for these families.

Always question the missing reasons when a mental health professional talks about how they have been punched, bit, spit on, exc. Those who are hospitalized are routinely subjected to forced drugging, restraints, forced stripping, coercion, manipulation, violence, and isolation. They are detained and are often given no escape on their own terms. A psych sees any act of violence they commit as self-defense no matter the actual circumstances, and any retaliation or attempt at self-defense by the patient as violence.

Today, in honour of the death of Pope Francis, I would like to recall his tireless struggle to make my life worse.
Both the same-sex marriage and gender identity laws in Argentina passed while he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires, which is to say the most prominent religious figure in the country, and he fiercely opposed them (famously calling the former a plot by the devil to destroy God's plan).
As a transgender lesbian in Argentina, having legally changed my name and gender and being married to my wife, things that have made my life enormously better and would not have been possible if he'd had his way, I can only say this: fuck you, you piece of shit. We won, you lost.
The next pope will probably also be a terrible person, because that's a requirement for the job of head of the Catholic Church. May it fade into irrelevance in my lifetime.

Okay so when I got sucked into the phantom zone last week while watching youtube shorts a lot of the content it fed me was ADHD tips and a lot of it was either useless for me or redundant but there was one REALLY good tip about taking breaks that wasn't about taking breaks it was about RETURNING from breaks and the tip is: when you are about to go on a break, before you step away from your task (work, craft project, school stuff) decide what you'll do as the first thing when you sit back down at your task and set up your workspace to do that thing.
That means you've got an easy re-entry point to go back to doing the thing instead of sitting back down and having to make a decision or having to reorient from break mode to task mode. You have pre-reoriented and can just go back into working mode.
I've been doing this by circling what my next task on my tasklist is and bringing up the windows that I'll need for the task before I step away from my desk.
Brilliant hack, works great for me, hope it works great for you as well.

a friend just tipped me off about Fund a Kitchen in Gaza, a free tool that helps you locate and donate to community kitchens currently serving some of Gaza's most vulnerable!
this lets you choose a region (south, central, north) and see which kitchens operate in that area, then donate to as many as you can.
as a reminder, community kitchens try to buy and cook in bulk, which makes ingredients last longer & sustain more people in the conditions of extreme scarcity that Israel is imposing right now. they are also able to serve people on the ground who may not have the means to reach out online.
so, whether through this tool or not, please do support community kitchens, as well as mutual aid groups that cover additional needs, such as the Sameer Project (meals, tents, cash aid, medical aid) and Dahnoun Mutual Aid (meals, tents, baby supplies, cash aid, winter clothes).
