STUDENT NAME: VILLE KELVIN MAGOMBO

GRAPHIC DESIGN AND DIGITAL MEDIA
LECTURER NAME: MR LUHANGA
MODULE NAME: VISUAL COMMUNICATION
ASSIGNMENT: CLOTH BRAND LOGO BRIEF
This brief is explaining how I come up with a poster advert for a new young clothes brand after being asked by my client (Magombo collection) to design, and produce a brand logo for them.
Before starting working on the project, I firstly asked my client to provide me with a brief on what they were expected to have and see in the logo, the intended purpose of the logo, the target audience, the platform or channel at which the message in the logo will be delivered and even the content of the logo itself. Here, my client provides me with a brief of the requirements of what I suppose to include in the whole project including the time flame for the project and the company’s favourite colours. This assisted me to start having some ideas of what my client was looking for and how the logo should be like, the materials to be used and even the time to be taken when designing.
From what I discussed with my client, I finally started conducting a research. The first research I did was secondary research Since secondary research is the information obtained from general secondary sources (Harris & Ambrosse, 2010), and here I was using online readily available data like videos, tutorials and other articles. During this research period, I was trying to find out some new ways and methods that I should apply when drafting and designing the whole logo. I was also trying to find out how other graphic designers are designing such type of logos in this country so that I should avoid producing something away from what other graphic designers are doing but at the same time making it unique and successful so that it will meet my client’s expectations and address the problem, hence making it successful. During the very same research stage, I was also trying to find out some challenges and problems faced by other graphic designers when designing the country. This research assisted me in large number of ways since I formulated the budget for the whole designing process based on the findings through this method of research.
After being done with secondary research, I then started using primary research method. “Primary research is the feedback generated during the learning phase of projects previously undertaken with the similar clients” (Harris & Ambrosse, 2010). In this primary research I went out meeting some targeted audience and other business operators asking them different questions based on how the brand logos attract their purchase and what combinations and elements presents in the logo make them understand and trust the brand being sold on the? It was very interesting to hear from themselves explaining their interest and what they prefer and like. This primary research helped me to find out some of the ways and techniques that I should apply when designing and producing a brand logo so that it can attract the attention of the targeted audience and forces user action hence parches. Finally, I started implementing all the findings.
This research assisted me to find out that a large number of targeted audiences really like simple and smart brand logos since it shows how smartness and straight forward the brand is. This research assisted me to start brainstorming some of the Ideas that I used in order to bring in a new and interesting logo that will be used by my client to mobilize the targeted group of people and the general public to get used to the new logo and make high number of parches hence more sales made by the company. I had a number of ideas formulated from all the data I collected in the field but I only picked some of the best ideas amongst all ideas that can best suit and connect well in the logo and connect with the targeted audience and also attract user’s or targeted audience’s action of parches.
After finishing brainstorming Ideas, I then started drafting some sketches of how the logo will be presented, how the message will be presented by the elements and some shapes in the logo and how colours will be placed in the logo. Doing all these sketches assisted me to find it easy when designing the logo.
Thirdly I organized all the sketches I had formed and then use those sketches when modulating a number of prototypes based on the ideas that I generated. It was very easy and interesting to modulate a large number of prototype since the sketches I formulated had all the needed information explaining how it should be presented hence coming up with different numbers of prototypes in less time and very quick. After coming up with a number of prototype, I took some of them back to my client just to show them and receive feedback from them. The feedback from my client was positive and they told me to go ahead with the project only that they just advise me to put all the first letters in capital and bold. After having them replaced, I produced another prototype of a logo and took it back again to my clients. This time around, my client was very happy with the second prototype and told me to implement the new prototype.
I then started implementing the prototyped logo into a final project. I firstly started by making sure that all my materials to be used when implementing the selected logo are perfect working and then started implementing in the adobe illustrator software. It was very easy and interesting during implementation period since all the requirements were already written down during sketching and drafting stage and I was just following what was there already.
Lastly. I saved the logo in adobe illustrator file and also EPS file and also pdf. I took EPS file to Adobe Photoshop and save it as a JPEG file to make it an image. I sent to my client a pdf file and he was very happy since the logo sold the problem and address the issue.
