Noel Fielding to make television comeback on Never Mind The Buzzcocks
Noel Fielding is rejoining Greg Davies, Sophie Willan and Jamali Maddix on the latest series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks
The music panel show will be Fielding's first screen appearance since production was halted on the second series of The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin
Alma's Not Normal creator Willan continues to fill in for Daisy May Cooper on the Sky Max series
Noel Fielding will return as a team captain on Never Mind The Buzzcocks this autumn, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.
Speculation about The Mighty Boosh star's television commitments have been rife since January when production ground to a halt on the now axed second series of The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin. Three-quarters of the Apple TV+ comedy's new episodes had been shot, with Fielding, who played the legendary highwayman as a foppish dandy, reportedly indisposed due to illness.
Alongside returning for a fifth series of Buzzcocks on Sky Max, a spokesperson for Fielding has previously told entertainment website Deadline that he will host The Great British Bake-Off on Channel 4 again, though the channel has yet to confirm this.
Sky told BCG: "Much-loved comedy quiz show Never Mind The Buzzcocks returns this autumn to Sky Max and streaming service NOW. The new series will see Greg Davies back at the helm as host with returning team captains, Noel Fielding and Sophie Willan, and regular panellist, Jamali Maddix, plus some surprise celebrity guest team captains for more themed specials."
Alma's Not Normal creator Willan filled in for Daisy May Cooper as team captain on last year's series of the music panel show, following the birth of the This Country star's third child. Sky attributes Cooper's continued absence on the upcoming series, which will be the 33rd in all including the show's original run on the BBC, to a "scheduling conflict", with the broadcaster unable to confirm if she will return for future episodes.
Last year introduced the concept of themed specials to the long-running show, specifically Buzzcocks Does ... The Nineties, Noughties, Rock and Girl & Boy Bands.
Made by Talkback (QI, Rob Beckett's Smart TV), guests on the fourth Sky series included Mel B, Courtney Love, Pete Doherty and Carl Barat, Self Esteem, Glen Matlock, Nelly Furtado, Beth Ditto, Sister Bliss, Kate Nash, Perrie Edwards and Duncan James, alongside comedians Julian Clary, Joel Dommett, Lucy Beaumont, Joe Wilkinson, John Kearns, Harriet Kemsley, Sam Campbell and comedy actor Susan Wokoma, with Cooper returning for the Christmas special.
Earlier this year, The Sun reported that Dick Turpin producers Big Talk were seeking to salvage enough footage from the abandoned second series to release a one-off special. Guest stars who had shot their roles on the unseen episodes included Dawn French, Miranda Richardson and Jason Isaacs, joining the core supporting cast of Ellie White, Marc Wootton, Duayne Boachie and Dolly Wells.
