Statement
Most of my current work focuses on depicting still life whereas my main focus would previously have been food. However, I do still like to occasionally introduce food into my work. The main intention of my work is to in a way document my life by using my surroundings as the subject for my pieces. During lockdown, I was made to appreciate my surroundings, from the ornaments to basic objects I would see everyday. I realised that my surroundings were not changing at the time but in the future they would and I'd be able to draw from the eye rather than an image. Previously, my main body of work consisted of work completed using oil paint which was my desired material as I liked the thick textures which were achievable and I was struck by the vibrant colours. However, recently I have felt more comfortable working in pencil as the appeal of the bright colours didn't look right and also I found that the grayscale reflects the pandemic. One of the main artists I've felt inspired by was Cath Riley who also uses pencil who manages to achieve realistic drawings which is something I want to work towards.
