My Son and I designed the entry way to the Major Taylor Exhibit now on view until Oct 23rd @indianamuseum. Link in Bio We took a portion of our project budget to provide more neighborhood access to the exhibit as well as launched our @muralstomerch campaign. 4 pack Major Taylor stickers and magnets will be available at our open house tomorrow. We will also be taking orders for custom wearable vinyl record cuffs as well. Merch will be available online very soon. The piece is entitled Complexity Of Legacy. Walker Theatre sign on E Type Jaguar Hood (Bonnet) My coat is from my grandfather, Jim Walker. My brother Clinton was named after him. My father owns a 1969 E Type Jaguar and I have seen him transform it into a beautiful car over the past 25 plus years. My first acting classes took place at the Walker Theatre, I was Dolemite. Had my first MC gig at the Walker on roller blades when I was like 7 or 8. They were worried I was gonna roll off the stage... Last year The Walker recieved a $15 million Lilly Endownment which will make Indiana University the main tenant. I am as hopeful for the new partnership as I am skeptical of it. History is the main foundation for my skepticism. It has never ended well for a particular group of people. At IUPUI, I was fired from the recycling team over 15 years ago for stealing a box of type writer paper with carbon paper backing. I utilized the carbon paper to start my vinyl art career and still have and use the carbon paper for projects not printed to canvas to this day. On the bottom right corner of the carbon paper spells Indiana University in red ink. The Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis Campus’s mascot is the jaguar and the additional reason for the use of the jaguar hood (bonnet). When I was in elementary school, attended my mothers spanish class on the IUPUI campus. My father got his masters degree from IUPUI and I attended there for a number of semesters before dropping out. I thank both of these organizations and institutions for helping to shape my life for the better. To all who came out, I thank you. This was the first show without my brother and it was a difficult one. The work of @jayaparnell and @masonarchieartist was phenomenal. We made history. I am honored to be part of it with these men. I would also like to thank friends and family as well as my Lady for helping through this tragic time period. The first time I presented my portfolio was in Harlem, off 125th St. I wont tell you where, but it was laughed at. That moment gave me a standard and 10 years later I earned the right to have my work represented on 125th St in Harlem.
