What This All About
The objective of this project is to research, investigate, and present what I proposed in the project prior. The goal of my research is to provide a better understanding of the violence that is currently happening among nurses. I also will investigate the research gap between the violence among nurses over time and why this issue is just now becoming monumental. The intended audience for my research is aimed towards nursing students, current nurses, retired nurses, or anybody working in the medical field!

Why This Matters!
I decided to discuss this situation because I plan to become a nurse after I graduate. Nurses are risking their lives every day to help and care for others. Nurses should not have to fear to go to work each day, unsure of what may happen. The workplace should be a safe and friendly environment, not a house of horrors. For some nurses, going to work is terrifying, dangerous, and unpredictable. Abuse and misconduct among nurses in the workplace are on the rise, and the public/media is finally getting a glimpse of the horror. Not only are nurses degraded and verbally abused by other employees, but they also face physical abuse from their peers, and in some cases, their patients. This world-wide situation needs to be put to an end.

This is a nurse appreciation post.
Nurses bust their butts for long hours and often get treated like crap. They see us at our mental / physical worst, see things that are pretty traumatic, they wipe our butts, clean up our puke, clean up our bodily fluids when we leak them, feed us, hold our hands, give us our meds, maintain our IVs, make sure we’re safe and comfortable, babysit us if we’re too drunk / stoned to deal with ourselves, watch us take our first breaths, watch us take our last breaths, etc, etc, etc, and sometimes they do all that without sleeping or eating or even a thank you.
I’ll say it here, and I’ll say it on behalf of all the patients who treated you poorly or who aren’t able to say it:
Thank you for what you do. It matters so much.

prayer request:
my mother is a nurse and was recently called by her boss (she’s out of town on vacation mind you) to testify about a potential hipaa violation.
she cannot think of a reason as to how she would have possibly violated hipaa (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act—aka making sure that all patient personal information is kept private).
if she is somehow found guilty, she will get fired and very likely lose her medical license.
please keep her in your prayers.

We keep getting these lectures about always being compassionate towards patients who are absolute dickheads, but when will society get the lecture that maybe they shouldn’t be assholes to the medical staff?

Nursing is a really great profession because people are allowed to flip you off and scream obscenities at you for twelve straight hours while still expecting you to cater to their every need and wish them a pleasant day as you’re saying goodbye.

PREACH!
Doctors are not better than nurses. Nurses are not better than doctors. These are two different roles with different responsibilities. Neither is better than the other. Both are essential.

A moment, please.
You may have seen the news story about how a prisoner who broke free in the hospital and got ahold of the guard’s gun.
But what you don’t know- is that the guard ran off and hid. And the prisoner? He took a nurse at gunpoint. Another nurse intervened. So he knocked out the first nurse and grabbed the second nurse. He then proceeded to take that nurse into a room where he beat the shit out of her and raped her. For THREE HOURS. Because thats how long it took the guard to report it.
This is a growing problem. But we don’t see it in the media. When is something going to be done about the violence against nurses?
When?

This blog is intended for nurses to reach out to one another, express themselves, be a part of a community, and to most importantly, feel safe.
