Question, how many of you are growing your hair to look like primarchs?
Iāve sacrificed my every few months diy mullet + uneven microbangs to pursue having hair down to my ass
Did anyone start a platinum hair journey and spend all of their money on it because of Fulgrim?
I wonder if thereās anyone here who did the abbadon or eidolon haircut
Me, one more year into the Warhammer fandom, emerging buff with hair down to my crack
I want to know if thereās anyone else here getting influenced

On Anon since I cannot ask this from my sideblog, but do you think that the hyperfocus the fandom has on Slaneesh being as this sex deity in Warhammer fan spaces comes from the perceived connection between Slaneesh and queerness?
I ask because I've seen you talk about similar things in the comments about how Fulgrim was presented; I feel like those issues with understanding Slaneesh also come from how Fulgrim was written being corrupted by them.
Cause, yes Slaneesh has as sexual aspect to them, but it feels like that is all people talk about when discussing it.
Ok. LOOOONG answer so strap in
Well I technically donāt blame them for focusing Slaanesh on sex given that the authors themselves did write Slaanesh as āthe sex godā and focused her on ādegeneracyā - the word itself being a fascist dogwhistle used against sexual liberation, queerness and many more.
Iām going to post the first part of my essay on this soon but while as a fandom we can analyze Slaanesh from a non-problematic perspective, the way the authors wrote her is focused on ādegeneracyā - the (false) concept of which being the only umbrella that fits all slaaneshi things: addiction, sex, sexual perversion, āartistic perversionā, sex crimes, immoral sexual acts, bodily mutilation (the fact that piercings and tattoos are included here in canon is also big time problematic and adds on to the āfascist dogwhistleā pile by alluding to the popular fascist talking point that body modification is āself mutilationā, ādestroying your perfect god given bodyā, āa violation of natureā and ādegeneracyā. During Fulgrimās apotheosis thereās a line where his tattooed skin peels off to reveal his original āperfect, unmarredā skin before he turns into a snake.).
This is the thing with Warhammer man, while I can see that the story was meant to be anti fascist and overall left leaning there are so many elements such as this which are confusing me because they end up supporting right wing viewpoints.
The story of Magnus is another such example: person born with a marginalized identity which is feared by society for being dangerous and demonic, fights for his right to be himself openly, is humiliated publicly, rejected by his family, forced into suppression, his father tells him to suppress himself for his own good yet he keeps fighting for freedom and independence on his own to prove that his identity isnāt dangerous but then the story ends up proving that he indeed is dangerous and demonic, his oppressive fatherās cautionary tale became exactly true and he is kidnapped and enslaved by a demon. So what are we supposed to take from this? That when your authoritarian father tells you something you should listen without questioning him? When he tells you to suppress your authentic self just listen to him and assume he knows things you donāt? Be scared to explore your identity because you might ruin your life, everyoneās life and live in eternal regret ? Just accept conformity? Accept that you are inherently dangerous and bad? What are we even meant to take from this?
If Iām being very generous then we could say: support your queer kids and queer ppl otherwise they might fall into the hands of evil ppl who are waiting to take advantage of them at a vulnerable time, I guess? But being a psycher in 40k is still dangerous and demonic, supportive parent or not, so again, idk. Idk where weāre supposed to go here.
Maybe thatās the same take for Fulgrimās story? Allow people to be themselves and explore themselves or they will be repressed and approach liberation in an unhealthy way and slip down bad paths like addiction, mix in with bad crowds or be taken advantage of? Thatās the most generous way you can interpret this
What are we meant to take from Fulgrimās story? Actually listen to your fascist dad because self exploration and sexual & artistic liberation will lead you to demonic possession and corruption and you will eventually turn into a rapist freak whoās crazy? Exploring art is dangerous? Experimenting with things and trying new things is dangerous? Pleasure is dangerous? Again, what is the message meant to be here
I feel like Warhammer has these core criticisms of the way the Emperor handled the primarchs like in the case of every traitor primarch, but instead of the moral of the story being āthe emperor is wrong and fascist and the primarch was right to demand xyzā the moral of the story ends up being āthe emperor is always right and the primarch was stupid and naive for wanting xyz, actually their fascist dad wanted what was best for them all along and they shouldāve listened to him when he dished out rules with no explanation, no questions asked, lifeās tough and unfair, you actually have to live repressed and neglected under fascism and canāt actually be free and happy or demons will kidnap you and society will collapseā.
We see a running theme of āa functioning society demands the sacrifice of your freedom and empathy and wanting all three at once is native and impossibleā. - again GW, what are we meant to take from this?
Freedom, liberation, self exploration, self expression, love, happiness, gentle parenting, parental love, fairness, etc are seen as naive, impossible concepts which one should just accept not having because wanting such will lead you to the arms of demons, ruin, degeneracy, getting lost and social collapse - again, maybe Iām just not getting it but thatās the way the message of the Horus Heresy ends up coming across if Iām not doing mental gymnastics
Itās all under the umbrella of degeneracy and fear mongering about letting ppl do what they want to look for happiness and fulfillment in a fascist world under an oppressive neglectful narcissistic father.
Again, the most charitable interpretation I can find is ālove your kids or else-ā
But then again, the primarchās falls, except for Lorgar, arenāt even them choosing chaos as an attempt to self liberate but instead being brainwashed and forced / tricked into chaos by magical objects or traps. Neither chose out of true free will. So you built up this whole thing of ācautionary tale for rowdy kids, listen to your dadā, but the kids did listen to their dad and their corruption wasnāt even their choice at all so again, where are we going with this? What are we trying to say?
Again, someone tell me if Iām stupid or Iām not getting it.
The reason Slaanesh is associated with queerness is because ppl are responding to an obvious dogwhistle. Wether the authors meant it or not, they did the thing.
Queerness is one of the first things under attack in a conservative crusade against ādegeneracyā and many elements of said ādegeneracyā echoed by conservatives are core elements of queerness and queer culture or intersect with it (given that queerness questions, deconstructs and opposes normative white supremacist society and its values which is conservative at its core) like being alternative, bodily autonomy, body modification, bdsm, art (mainly abstract, experimental and modern art), music (same adjectives as above), unique and unconventional fashion and style exploration, sexual diversity such as polyamory or orgies, defying gender norms, camp, taking up space - these are all parts and signifiers of āSlaaneshā the way itās described in Warhammer.
The authors of Warhammer wanted to make a demon based on ādegeneracyā but because ādegeneracyā itself is a fake fascist concept made up to hate queer ppl it ended up just echoing queerness (+ a bunch of harmful stereotypes added on which conservatives think queer ppl do or want to do). If that makes sense.
The right-wing fandom is responding by being homophobic and seeing Slaanesh as a caricature and cautionary tale against queerness (which it is) and the queer fandom is responding by reclaiming Slaanesh and Fulgrim as symbols of camp, liberation and free expression, reflecting on their own journeys of living their truth, either with mental gymnastics or simply ignoring the negative aspects.
For me, as a queer person, I canāt do the latter. Itās too obviously a hitpiece against everything I am and makes a mockery out of everything I went thru as a queer artistic person from a conservative christian upbringing.
So many aspects of my journey of self liberation included dying my hair, experimenting with my style, bold makeup, experimenting with my sexuality and myself as a sexual person, wearing sexy clothes, getting deep into art, experimenting with abstracts, looking beyond whatās seen as socially acceptable by my conservative surroundings, unlearning purity culture, close mindedness and anti-intellectualism, letting go of the fear of exploring what is ultimately harmless parts of human existence and have only been demonized and stimgmatized by christianity and conservatives. Reading the Slaanesh story makes me feel like I did something wrong, like what I did was wrong and dangerous, like itās leading me down a slippery slope where I will eventually end up a crazy evil criminal who hurts people, just like conservatives believe. Itās the whole āif we allow gay ppl to exist they will try to legalize sex with animals next,ā argument brought to life.
And unfortunately as much as I love Warhammer I wonāt gaslight myself, let other well meaning fans gaslight me or do mental gymnastics to avoid recognizing that clear aspect of the story.
It IS making me heavily uncomfortable because I feel ācalled outā about something I should not be called out about because I did nothing wrong. Exploring myself as a queer alternative person sexually and artistically isnāt wrong or dangerous. But the story is making me feel guilt and worry and triggering basically all of my traumas, especially religious and moral fears around being demonic, aligned with evil, immoral and mentally corrupted by being who I am. That Iām doing something wrong and if I wanted to ābe on the right pathā I needed to deny parts of myself and forego my own happiness for the sake of ācommon senseā and ādoing whatās rightā. The feeling that I had to choose between my own happiness and freedom vs the right thing. Which is simply wrong. And the story of Fulgrim and Slaanesh is retelling that very ācautionary taleā
Itās the reason you sadly donāt see me engage with that part of the Heresy story or Fulgrim as a character, despite me loving him so so much. Itās all too triggering because I just disagree with the whole notion of his story and I canāt go along and pretend that itās just fiction, it means nothing, there is no message, I canāt see implications and Iām fine with all of this. At least not me personally.
Very important that I note that this take or stating the obvious fact that this is isnāt an attack to Fulgrim / EC fans, as I said, Fulgrim as a character is my favorite right up there with Konrad, but the story around him makes me so deeply uncomfortable because of all the things I listed and more that I canāt look past it or work within it. If you can, you do you. Every Fulgrim fan Iāve seen is queer, trans or both so if you can reclaim his story and vibe with it then Iām more then happy for you. So please donāt take this as an attack or an offense, all my grudges are with GW / Warhammer and their writing not the Fulgrim fandom. If you can find happiness, love and self expression in the story and itās characters Iām happy for you.
I hope that gave you the answer you wished for anon. Stay tuned for my essay because it does deeper into this very thing, full Contrapoints style

Methinks, how come night lords donāt generally have long hair to emulate their primarch?
Every other legion where the primarch has long hair the astartes match, blood angels, emperorās children, thousand sons, even space wolves, most at least a good chunk of marines emulate and aspire to their primarchās aesthetic so how come basically all nights lords are either shaved bald or have short clipped hair? Why does no one emulate Curzeās long hair?
He might hate them but we know NLās short of worship Curze and the legion is basically his cult so itās puzzling to me why none seek to look like their father
Is this just random or you guys think itās some legion custom / politics / rule? And why? Is it a respect thing / a sort of āno doubles ruleā? You think he forbade it because he didnāt want a legion of mini meās who look like him because he hates himself?

Konrad torturing Vulkan, actual security camera footage from the Nightfall:
No but seriously, this is exactly how I picture Konrad acting in that situation, choreography included (including the maggot part)
If I want to laugh I listen to this song and picture an animation of that exact situation. The only way I can ease my dislike of that part of the plot is Konrad being a deliciously disgusting cartoon villain
The red guy from the henchmen also looks lowkey highkey exactly like Sevatar so thereās that too š©

Thinking about how much Konrad looks like the Emperor, truly theyāre only set apart by skin and eye color difference. The same straight long black hair and facial features. Konrad is a little narrower and sharper but otherwise they look SO much like father and son, more then any other primarch.
Except for Lorgar who is basically Eās clone down to skin and eye color, but because of how different Lorgar styles himself, no hair, etc you have to look closely to notice the facial similarity.
Basically I think Konrad looks like the emperor but the dark, scary ānightmareā version.
You think this is accidental or do you think E made his persecutor be a dark version of himself so when Curze gets sent to non compliant worlds itās like theyāre being punished by a nightmarish apparition of the Emperor himself.
So basically bro needed a butcher, took himself and photoshopped himself into a demon as like an āevil mini meā - so the non compliant worlds would remember that face, they wouldnāt forget who they disappointed to deserve this punishment.
Interesting how both his messenger Lorgar and his persecutor Konrad look so much like him. One especially kind and shrouded in light, one dark and twisted .
Depending on how he wanted people to know him, he sent one or the other to introduce himself. Fear or adoration.
I wonder if this occurred to Konrad and if it bothered him. When he was clean and put together with his hair clean and arranged, dressed in imperial clothes, he must have looked so much like him - do you think some people at court / people you didnāt know the Emperor super well mistook the two only to realize only when they saw the eyes? Like āthis is the Emperor but something isnāt rightā. Do you think people told him? Do you think he liked it initially and only later grew to hate it?
Do you think some worlds thought the Emperor came back for them / to them and addressed him as such only to find out that something isnāt quite rightā¦.

These looks on my Pinterest board fuel everything Iāve ever done for Konrad

also Violet Chachki - tho that was fully accidental
I have a whole board called āserving evil cuntā, arguably the most tasteful collection of images on the internet, which fuels everything I do - including copious amounts of coats with a fur trim, stiletto boots and goth makeup with dark red lipstick
Which could basically be renamed as āthings I want to put Konrad Curze intoā
I desperately want to hire myself as Konradās personal stylist he doesnāt need or want, itās actually my dream job and the closest I can do is be an artist.
I NEED to put that slender body and chiseled sharp slavic dark-elf facecard into STUFF
If I knew ppl gave a fuck Iād share a whole 10 page document of all the fits I compiled

Konrad looking at the state of Nostramo:
āHmm⦠it looks like the rich noble class who got to where they are by being the biggest exploiters take advantage of the poor who are incentivized by their material conditions to rely on breaking the law to surviveā¦. Almost as if the solution is -
*GOLDEN IMPERIALIST PRIMARCH BRAIN CHIP ACTIVATES SENSING LEFTIST THINKING*
āsubject is coming too close to class consciousness, activate emergency protocolā
*Konradās eyes turn golden and his voice goes robotic*
āWhat I meant was I want to recruit only nobles for my legion because they have superior genes - now let me go kill more poor scrum for stealing!
-
My theory for why superintelligent beings with all the knowledge of humanity just couldnāt figure out leftism, socialism and anti imperialism
The only reason class conscious king Angron was spitting only facts was because the nails sabotaged the golden emergency protocolā¢ļø. Iām not even joking tbh

I NEED TO SPEAK TO FELLOW LOTR FANS
Konrad is basically the Witch King of Angmar, isnāt he??!
The line that goes āSauron has yet to reveal his deadliest servantā - IS THAT not the most Konrad thing ever??! š© Konrad actually being the Emperorās ādeadliest servantā
If you look at the witch king in LOTR thatās how the Imperiumās enemies must see Konrad and the night lords, a sinister powerful monster commanding a legion of bloodthirsty monsters, sent in to bring about death and darkness
Even the title, Konrad is both a witch and a king, so he could be called āthe Witch King of Nostramoā which sounds like the coolest thing ever (and I bet heās mad he didnāt come up with that one himself)
His whole aesthetic, when in the movie the witch king is being armed, his gauntlets are so similar to NL gauntlets with the pointy nails. His introduction / arming scene is exactly how Iād introduce Konrad in a movie. ITS PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT ššš©
That whole scene, the terror, the screams, the coloring, the darkness, itās PERFECTION

The spikey accessories, the distressed robes, so Konrad coded . The gargoyles, the architecture

Iāve been meaning to post this for a while but the voice of the witch king has been one of my main voice claims for Konrad. That whispery, creepy, otherworldly voice is almost exactly how I picture him sounding, especially with his helmet on. (I think Konradās voice would be a bit higher and less dehydrated but the same sound and quality if that makes sense)
The ādo you not know death when you see itā , you tell me thatās not literally perfect
Btw the witch kingās voice is EXACTY how I picture all Night Lords sounding like with their helmet on. And here I mean exactly, no modifications. Like the Nazghul. THAT, exactly that!!
Night Lords have such Nazghul energy and presence, canāt believe I havenāt talked about this before
I SO plan on doing an art of Konrad with an aesthetic / outfit inspired by the witch king
He also kinda looks like the Nazghul without their robe, with the spikey crown, gaunt face, long hair, nails, creepy aura etc - just the pretty version of that, you know what I mean
-
Btw I thought the Nazghul were aesthetic as fuck as a youngster (still do) if you ever wondered about my lore and how I ended up on the Night Haunterās doorstepā¦

Iām thinking so much about dilf Konrad recently arrgh, itās already canon that he had grey streaks during the heresy and I think looking ~50 with fine lines would make him look so fucking hot I -
Physically aging makes his whole Dracula aspect hit harder and would make him look more stern and strict, dark and intimidating⦠very evil stepmother / hannibal-esque . It would give him so much character and physically differentiate him from Corax more.
Iād say during the heresy heād look ~10 years older then his brothers and after being defrosted post heresy ~20years older
Anyway, the combination of looking middle aged and goth / dark is šš. When beautiful men age and get wrinkles itās aargh, they look even sexier
Iād imagine the corners of his mouth getting lines from always frowning for example.
I imagine his hair being streaked with white in the front like a moneypiece and when he puts it back itās even more visible. Most of his hair is still black with a little streaking (only visible when you look up close) and a full grey streaked part at the front.
When the emperor found him he was giving ādark, fallen angel from a paintingā - smooth skin, full shiny jet black hair, some tasteful dark circles but otherwise physically perfect - and as time passed, life became harder on him and stuff started adding up he became more and more Count Dracula-esque
Now add to that him looking worn out with deep dark circles and sunken eyes. The books thirst over Guilliman having the āhot tired office workerā look with dark circles and stuff in 40k post return - I mean the exact same thing but sprinkle in some evil and malice
#warhammer 40k#wh40k#konrad curze#brain is FIRING today#oh wait Iām ovulating ok that makes sense#enjoy the next week friends it will be colorful

A young Konrad Curze after crowning himself the king of Nostramo

ā¦
(From āBluebeardās castleā opera, the 7th door)
āThe fourth one I found at night
Starry, black night.
Your white face bright with light
Your dark hair its shroud
Yours will henceforth be every night
Yours itās starry cloak
Yours itās diamond crown
You are its most precious treasure
The most perfect beauty
And now there shall always be night
Now all shall be darkness
Darknessā¦. Darknessā
