Stories of Migration

Hello! So, in my school, in our english class we have been working on a website called Global Partners Junior. We are given an assignment once a week, which we have a while to complete. This week we have to share the story of a person we know that has migrated. I interviewed my sister’s friend, Aleiga. He is 23 years old. He is from South Korea, but moved to Albania at the of 13. Then, in August 2016 he moved to Kosovo because he wanted to attend university here. After talking to him for a while I learned more about his experience and the challenges he faced, so I wrote a poem that describes the way he said felt like when moving.

Age 13,

Moved from South Korea to here.

Here..

In Albania for a better living and finding ways me and wealth could meet,

Or even for my dad to stop peering at the taxes after he yelled and screamed and my mom pretending she couldn’t hear.

And we did,

And it was great for a while,

And it felt like all the puzzle pieces finally fit right.

But then I got older,

And had to go to university across the border.
