it’s home.   metaphorically speaking anyway.  somewhere where she feel  comfort  within herself,  where relaxation can be less faulted,  cares  &  worries out of the way from the horrid  –––  HORRID  –––  times in the hallways  :   (  HEY FREAK !   SAW YOU IN THE CEMETERY  ––  STILL LONELY  ?  )  how can one girl overcome emotions  ?  you’re alone in the world  ––  aren’t you  ?   you’re  NOT  LIKE  them,  you don’t  want  to be either.          ❝    uh, no  ––  it’s my  uncle’s  land,  i come here for some,  uh,  quiet    …    sometimes anyway.    ❞

“ cool. ”  half a smile appears on cecilia’s face for a moment. her parents’ words echo in her mind: make some friends, cecilia!  silently, she replies          does the local graveyard girl count? she approaches the brunette, eyes glinting with a hint of curiosity.  “ i’m here on a weekend break. thought i’d check out the local hotspots. ”  her tone of voice is deadpan as ever, but there’s a layer of sarcasm buried somewhere there.

“ not exactly. ”      flicker of a indecision on his face;   to be honest or not.      “ i think just kind of   —–   unique.   wanted me to be too.   there’s a playwright named churchill,   you know.   she was a big deal in her day. ”      smiles because it comes naturally when looking at her,   not that she seems amused herself,   but because she doesn’t  (at all !)  he can’t help adopting the look himself;   she’s better at small-talk than most of the adults he knows.      “ that’s where they got it from. ”

     she nods, a hint of a smile teasing on her lips.  “ i respect that. much . . . cooler than if you’d been named after an english prime minister or a place of worship. ”  cecilia looks him up and down. he looks like someone lux would love and her parents would hate.  “ i wish i could say i’d heard of her. ”

     cecilia emits a heavy sigh when the pencil hits the ground. she was planning to pick it up eventually, but then she sees a hand reach down and grab it. she turns around when the hand uses the pencil to tap her and is faced with a redhead she’s never seen before.  “ thanks. ”  she turns back around immediately, returning to doodling her margins for the rest of english. when the bell rings, cecilia looks up from her notebook and slowly peers over her shoulder at the redhead, wishing to confirm her suspicions.  “ are you new? ”

Cecilia Lisbon sits in front of her in English and Kristen’s found herself studying the back of the blonde’s head more than her books. It’s stupid, a silly crush, and Kristen’s been driven red in the cheeks by her teacher more times than she cares to admit over it. There’s something ethereal about the Lisbon girl. About all of them, allegedly (Kristen’s too new, too green, to know all of them) but if they’re anything like Cecilia, she knows she’d be in real trouble, then.

The sound of a pencil hitting the linoleum floor startles Kristen out of her reverie and she bends over her desk, red hair hiding her face like a curtain as she retrieves the blonde’s pencil. Tapping her on the shoulder with it, Kristen tries for a smile and hopes it doesn’t come out too… dorky. “Here.”

   paul worked hard to keep this garden alive ,  it almost offended her that cecile thought this way .     ‘   nothing here is dying , cecilia .  i can assure you ,  carrie’s inside if that’s who you were looking for . ’   cathy was closer in age and was more often seen with lux ,  who wasn’t home , according to bonnie .  ‘  do you know when lux will be home ?  i have new records i wanted to share with her . ’ 

     she shrugs, eyes blank and apathetic. she turns her gaze from the tree to cathy, tongue between her teeth.  “ no clue. lux is like a cat, she only comes home when she’s hungry. ”  a tiny smile appears on cecilia’s face, only for a second.  “           what records? ”
