The Last Song || For Miriam & Andre

As I look around all I see are Wistar,some girl I never met with blood around her mouth,and Cashmere. I heard Miriams screams. She had not made it out alive. My best friend. I thought she would be here to the end. Then there's Andre. His body still in that cave somewhere. I will make things right. I will fight for them. But until then I have a message for them both.

Miriam I love you too. I love you as my best friend. When we were younger I wanted you to be mine. You had long brown hair back then. I was a dorky kid with an instrument. As we matured I felt these feelings. I was physically attracted to you. I knew that due to those boners that I would get during training. Remember when I said I had to go pee? Well that’s because I was getting a hard on and I didn’t want you to see. I thought you were so out of my league but then we had sex. It was a tad awkward because it was my first time. But I love it. More than you can even imagine. I just wish that we continued from there. But you wouldn’t have met Hugo and I wouldn’t have fell for Isobel. Everything happens for a reason I guess? I don’t want to die without you knowing that I had feelings for you back then. It doesn’t matter now but it feels good to get things off my chest. You are so strong and beautiful. I had a few bites of blackened rabbit. The taste was weird but it was food. My arms felt like jelly. I'm more than happy for a rest.

"Miriam you know I love you. Thanks for getting the supplies."

I grabbed a few rocks and put them in a circle around the branches and leaves. The process of getting the fire going took less time than it usually did.

I started humming a song by Charlie Winston while I sat in front of the fire.

"It's just ahead of us. We can stop when we get there. No offense to the forest but I don't really feel like it's a safe place anymore." I was referring to the fact that my Izzy died. "So we're good then. I'll just have to gather some supplies for a fire then we'll have some warmth."

I picked up my pace. My arms were really starting to hurt now. Just a bit further. I can do it.

"Take a look around Andre. Everything is either charred or rotting. I spotted a bush a few paces back. The berries were shriveled up and black. Either it's from the fire or something else."

Contrary to popular belief just because everything is dead does not mean we have to be. We're going to need food unless we want to die out here like these plants.

I looked down at Cashmere. She was growing tired. My arms started to ache slightly but I can't complain. It's better than getting fucked up by a drunk ex. I started humming softly. Not only to keep me going but for Cashmere.

"We can settle down soonish. At least we're away from that gas. I think we can all use a bit of rest. Cashmere you can let go. I see that wound on your shoulder and it must not feel comfortable. I won't drop you."

"There’s no one else I know too, but if anything does happen to me and it’s you left you still fight okay? Pull all the tricks that I taught you in training out of the bag alright?" I patted her head a little and saw that her eyes were starting to drop, she looked so sleepy it was pretty adorable.

The good part of the forest was coming into view and as we walked through the forest it was eerily quiet, I started to doubt that anyone was here too. “Do we climb all night as well?"
