DESIGNING SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE !!

I continued the feed with the intro my team, we used the same end slate and created all three post.📸

Thereafter we uploaded both the trailers with coming soon posts and some production day shots.

For more ideas We took inspiration from other film pages like La Casa de Papel, Alrawabi school for girls, 13 reasons why, dark and many more horror films. We even looked up at directors social media page like Christopher Nolan, Rohit Shetty, Jensen Ackles, Akarsh Khurana and many more..

Similarly we tried to show the dialogues and pictures in one post like 13 reasons why

Thereafter, I started writing the captions - Instagram captions have the potential to add context to the images and videos you share, as well as details that users may not have known otherwise. As such the captions are that Not that necessary as Instagram is a visual medium, nailing your Instagram caption is almost as critical as the photo (or video) itself. So I just wrote about each character and mentioned their original and character’s name. I have used the hashtag #️⃣ option as Hashtags are an important way to expand your Instagram audience and get more reach.

Another feature we have used is the reel option. Since there are many reels which are trending nowadays. We went with the trend and uploaded one reel with all our production shots and behind the scenes.

We used IGTV option to post our trailers.

Instagram Stories generally provide a better, less perplexing user experience. We have used stories to make regular updates about our production and Trailers as it will provide us to make creative content. For example we have uploaded many stories of Day -1, Day-2 and Day-3 shoot days. We have used polls to ask about our social issue so that we can have our audience perspective too. Since the stories are temporary as they hang around for 24 hours and they are gone. So to make it permanent we have used the highlight options to make our stories appear on the profile. Lastly there is a use of greyish textured cover for our highlights so that it matches with the overall theme.

SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE

~INSTAGRAM~

So now, it’s time for Instagram! I simply clicked on “Add Account” and created Estranged_bis. The bis in username stands for Bodhi international school. I kept the profile picture blank at first but then after we finalised our poster, I uploaded the picture of the estranged on the profile. Than it comes to the bio! An Instagram bio is what people see first when they visit your page. It's one of the things that help you grab the audience's attention, so it needs to stand out! You have just seconds to leave a great impression and show a person that discovers your profile that it's worth a follow. I did not want to put any useless information so I wrote the quote which is used in our trailer ‘Silence is not weakness but the beginning of my revenge’ this simply grabs the attention of audience as it’s a very bold quote‼️

Now it’s time to complete the feed with different pictures and videos📸. We first shared three post of coming soon🔜 in a row to make audience aware of our coming trailer. Our idea was to use horror theme throughout the insta Page so we designed the Coming Soon image on Canva and separated them into 3 separate images. We went with a dark background and white font to maintain our color theme - black and white. These colours have been used prominently in our trailers, movie title, texts and also the social media page. The same colours and movie title style are used on the poster, to make sure it looks connected to the theme. Black is visually heavy and its message is therefore very strong. This is why it also signifies power and strength. For the same reason, too much black can become overwhelming. It grabs the attention of viewers quickly and remains in their mindframe longer. However, white is considered safe and pure, through which we depict a fresh beginning for our lead actor in a powerful way.

Both the background with the scratches and the chalk font followed the horror genre successfully.

My idea was to introduce our main characters and my team. So I thought of uploading their pictures rather then uploading the story. I started stalking other production pages to get more idea of how I can design my feed.👀 I looked up at money heist Insta page and I found some different ways of presenting the characters. Just like money heist, I and the editor created a post of different characters with their actual name and releasing date.

For that I and the editor made many drafts and checked which one goes with the theme.

We changed it many times because the image was not in HD quality as we took the screenshot from the scene. Finally we created the last design and it came out good. We used the end slate for all our post so that it matches the theme.

MIRROR REFLECTION - EDITING

We used CANVA for the text ,font and end slate of the poster. Below is the liquid black marble design for the background created using CANVA which we have used throughout our editing process, social media page and even for my CCR background.

No matter what photo editing program you’re working in, image masking is an important part of making selective adjustments. Although each program has a slightly different way of masking, the purpose remains the same. By applying a mask to an image or adjustment layer, you can better control where it will be applied in your image. That way, you can easily target specific areas of your image for a more enhanced edit. Similarly in our film we are going to show two different people through a change of reflection in a mirror of both characters. So for that we are going to use masking technique and tracking effect to show the change in the mirror reflection. All these editing will be done in premiere pro.

Our editor already knew the masking technique as she did the course on it before, which made it easier for her to edit the mirror scenes. But for better understanding we watched a lot of tutorials of masking editing on YouTube.

We also watched many mirror trick tutorials which were in trend.

All of these research helped us in our editing. Our editor made many drafts just to check how it comes out.

Overall, the mirror scene was done successful as it was looking totally real. After getting approved on this by our teacher we finalised all the mirror scenes and finished the masking and tracking effect of each shot.

At the same time we worked on our social media page we thought of doing it on Instagram because of many new features and Posts, which can be shared publicly or with pre-approved followers. Users can browse other users' content by tags and locations and view trending content. Users can like photos and follow other users to add their content to a personal feed. Even I’m very much aware of Instagram and it’s upcoming and new features since I use them often so thought of creating the page on this platform rather then doing it on Twitter of other social platforms. Looking on that I took the charge of the designing the insta page as the cinematographer didn’t know much about the features and other creative areas and editor was busy with the editing process. We finally created an insta account and named ESTRANGED.

FINALISING TEXTS

After finalising the shorts and the editing part We worked on the texts for our Trailers. To most, text is essential. But to some, text is optional.  I personally think you need text. I like having text to tell the story because the story’s message can get lost if you only use the clips. so for that my team sat together and discussed on various text which we are going to use in the trailers. We watched many horror trailers to get an idea of how the text are coming , how they are used and what meaning they are creating.

After watching these many trailers we found out that horror film trailers doesn’t contain a lot of text in between, only the releasing date and the title is mentioned.  however I thought of showing short text (oxymoron of the words)related to that particular scene between the trailers so that audience could relate to the horror genre. these are the text we are going to use in the trailer.🎬

After the texts were decided the editor started finalising the font, effect and background for the text.

FINALISING NARRATION 

Now it’s time to finalise the narration and place it into a sequence. I wrote all of the narration which was required for both of the trailers. We then handed over the narration to our teacher to check and make Necessary corrections.

TRAILER -1

TRAILER- 2

FIRST OF ALL PEOPLE CAN PUT UP WITH PAIN, AND KEEP THEIR FEELINGS BOTTLED UP. BUT ONLY TO A CERTAIN POINT. - After which they burst. {NARRATION}

I you are wondering why the handwriting is changed, well you guessed correctly. Now this isn't Esme's but my journal that you are reading. Esthelle, Esthelle Mitchell. {NARRATION}

I no longer see Esthelle and nor does she see me, its dark and empty and I remain frightened and alone.

Thereafter we handed over the narration to our lead character ADITI for the recording.We recorded the narration in iPhone just to have a good and clear quality sound.

BRANDING- NETFLIX

Now it’s time to decide the OTT platform. For branding, we thought it would be profitable to collaborate with distribution platforms and Netflix is one of the best OTT platforms in today’s times. If we could collaborate with Netflix, it would be a milestone in our marketing campaign, because we would receive an appreciable fan following and a trusted brand identity. So to show this we used Netflix in our poster, trailer and on our social media page.

After the successful completion of our editing and other post production areas, I started writing the essay for CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION. I have used Adobe spark to present my CCR in a more creative way.

POST - PRODUCTION

Hello guys!! We are all done with production now it’s time to gather all the shots and start the editing process.

I sat with our editor and confirmed every shot which are going to be used and divided the shots according to the trailers.

Our Editor Aadityalekshmi copied all the data in the school’s system and started filtering the shots. On the same time, I along with my Cinematographer Riyaan started looking for background score and sound effects. Though we have a framework in our mind from the beginning but number of things changed during editing process. Aadityalekshmi started editing in stages. First of all, she created a rough draft and assembled all the shots together to see how the overall trailer will look at the end. we even started finding different ways of showing the same shots by just adding or subtracting the shots. Finally we came to a point where we thought this way of execution will look much appropriate.

We did the editing on Adobe premiere pro CC 2018 & 2021 on the school’s pc.

POSTER

At the same time we started creating our poster for the film and for that we used CANVA, which is a graphic design platform, used to create social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents and other visual content.

I researched on the codes and conventions of horror film posters :-

While taking the main image of the person’s face, a low angled camera shot is used to create a scary atmosphere and to create suspense and tension. In the same way I clicked the pictures of the lead character for the poster.

Additionally The low key lighting creates this effect more and identifies it as a horror drama. This tells the audience what to be scared of the film and hints at what the problem is.

There is usually a close of the victims face to show a scared expression which connotes that the poster is for horror film. similarly we took the close-ups of our lead character to show her expressions of both side of her.

The credits are usually at the bottom Of the poster, including the names of the actors And the production company , as well as the title and the tagline of the film. There is also the release date at the bottom of the poster.

The main colours are usually black and white  with just a little hint of other colours  to connate the horror genre such as red. Even Most the horror movie titles are in white or red Font. Following this we used same theme of black and white in our poster.

There after we looked up for many horror film posters just for the reference and to get an idea of how the posters of horror films are presented.

After Looking at the different horror posters we got an idea of the color schemes , Title fonts , background designs , transparency effects and many more visuals. This whole researched helped us to design the poster of the film.

Keeping all these conventions in mind and by creating many drafts, we finalised our film poster. ‼️‼️

DAY -3 (SHOOT DAY)

Heyy guys !! After all the camera work and shooting we checked all our shots. Unfortunately there were some mirror shots which were not angled and focused properly. So we planned to take all the mirror scenes again. We explained everything again to our lead character and made her available at that point of time. Since the shoot was planned at the last moment, our cinematographer wasn’t able to make it because of some reasons. So I and the editor handled the camera work together.

I did her make up again and changed her into Estelle.

I delivered the dialogues while the editor was taking the shots. We also took some montages and shots so that we have our back ups ready and don’t miss on any shot. At the same time I clicked many evidences for the blogs and CCR.

Overall, the shoot was successfully completed, the reason is was successfully finished as planned was that our cinematographer was able to take the shots perfectly on the first go and our actors even did very well gave us one take shots. My vision was very clear in terms of what I was looking for in a particular shot or sequence. On this day I learned a lot about camera techniques and how to handle a tripod.

DAY- 2 ( SHOOT DAY )

We started out our shoot with on a positive note, our team was happy with how things went on day - 1. So we proceeded with the rest of the screenplay's shoot. Today's major part were the mirror scenes. We hadn't had any experience in such shots and even less idea on how we would be doing it so as to get the results we need.

On This day we completed our indoor shots of the bedroom - for this scene we required. A simple test beautiful room, but as we has less resources we settled with a basic room with bright light and basic amenities.

We had to show that both Esme and Estelle lived their respectively. So we shot the diary and crying scenes of our actor.

I did her make up to show different side of her. At the same time Aditi was constantly changing roles. Our editor prepared the prop required, this was the diary which was using in mostly all scenes of ESME’s own.

Thereafter we discussed for our next plan shots and other improvising areas and changes.

The last shot for the day was the entrance scene. She changed her dress into formals to show her entry in the school.

At the end we clicked some pictures for the poster. Clicked both sides of her to show the difference.

That’s all for the day, we have completed all our planned shots for the day.

PRODUCTION 🎬

Hello people!! The day we all were eagerly waiting for has come! My goals this time was to achieve all the targets for a particular day within the time limit, without wasting time on unnecessary changes. Of course we did make many on the spot improvisations, but we did not exceed our time limits.

The location was the school

We actually had enough time to shoot as we all including the characters were part of the school only.

DAY - 1 {SHOOT DAY}

The setting and all was done by me a day prior the shoot even the evidences of the locations were clicked as soon as we finished the pre production process. For the first day we planned to shoot all the bully outdoor scenes. As we had so many actors and all had free periods so looking on that we managed our scenes and planned accordingly.

My team and I managed all the students and placed them according to the camera angle. Since this was the first time we were handling that much students it was really difficult to position and handle them. Some of them were new and random students we took at that point of time so explaining shots to them took us more time.

This was the time our teacher was helping the cinematographer and improvising his camera angles.

Simultaneously, I clicked many evidences for the blogs and CCR.

We then did the library scene, In the library scene we asked the co-actors to act notoriously and Darsh(Lucas) had to do his part as the a bully. We made sure the lights were bright enough so that their expression were clear. We shot both Esme's and Esthelle' s scenes. With different body languages, face expressions and characteristics.

Thereafter we did the corridor scene where I changed ADITI’s look for other shots where she takes the revenge.

Then we moved to the staircase where we captured one of our bully scene.

At the end of the day we did our last planned shot for the day - mirror scene. We clicked some shots only as the cinematographer took some time to angle and fix the camera properly. 🎬

PRE - PRODUCTION

Hello people! Now it’s time to gather all the information gained from research and planning to compose a gripping story. We have finalised all the possible requirements for our trailer moving from script , casting , location, screenplay, shot division , mood board and finally the mise en scene.

STORY

Hybrid Genre – Horror/ Drama

17-year-old Esme Mitchell is a timid social outcast at her new high school, where she is shunned by her peers and bullied by her schoolmate Jenna and her friends. Esme has only one friend, the unpleasant Mira. At home, Esme frequently suppresses her emotions with her parents: her distant and her obsessive perfectionist mother, who suffers from depression and nightmares, and lives in denial about her husband's affairs with other women.Esme accidentally discovers a sonogram of a pair of twins. Afterwards in the bathroom, her reflection begins to move on its own, terrifying Esme. Shaken, she attempts to discuss it with her parents the following morning; however, they brush her off and send her to school. After dreaming of her own birth, Esme's reflection begins talking to her, calling herself Estelle, and telling Esme she can take her sadness away. Although physically identical, Estelle is charismatic, assertive, and more confident than Esme. Esme asks who she is, and Estelle simply says she has "always been here."Crushed, she begins to find solace in Estelle's presence and support that make her confront her subconscious thoughts and inner feelings. Esme unlike other children was different, unique but because of her inferiority complexes and odd bipolar behaviour. It was the girls not the boys who subjected her to the taunts; she would not look at a boy because she believed it was so hideous and did not want to see the distaste on their faces. Estelle again gave her comfort and encouragement. Finally, she is humiliated and physically assaulted in the class by the one boy Mark; of whom she had started to grow fond of. He faked his true nature for his own enjoyment.Devastated, Esme goes into the bathroom to find Estelle. Their palms and lips touch, allowing them to switch places. At school, Estelle is visibly more confident than Esme, even standing up to Mark. Esme, now stuck in the mirror, is appalled by Estelle's behaviour, but Estelle insists she is only being honest, and that Esme needs to trust her. She tells Esme that all of them must answer for their sins. Estelle then lures Mark agreeing to his terms and takes revenge by a bullying him using his own ways. In the bathroom that evening, Esme, frantic, begs to switch again, but Estelle reiterates that everything was a necessary; and that ultimately, Esme wanted these things to be over. Esme asks again who she is, but Estelle only replies, "You know me". Estelle begins living more wildly, skipping classes, getting into fights and acting strange and disrespectful.Soon Estelle begins hallucinating being trapped back in the mirror, in the darkness. Not seeing Esme on the other side of it she begins to get scared. This haunts her at night. Deeply upset, she comes to sit against the mirror in the bathroom and sees Esme and they start crying together.Estelle now no longer sees Esme when she looks into the mirror. Frightened and alone, Estelle returns home and crawls onto the bed next to her mother. {A series of mirrored burst shots depicts Esme and Estelle on the bed together with their mother; implying that Esme and Estelle merged into one.}

Before finalising the story I made many drafts and wrote the story more than 3-4 times to get a strong story line. Finally the story was approved by our teacher and we started finalising the other elements of production.

LOCATION RECCE

Since because of COVID-19 we can’t go anywhere to shoot, the only location could be our school. So we planned our whole story line while keeping the location in mind. According to the research there are some major places in school where bullying occurs like in the hallway, stairwell, inside the classroom, school ground and bathroom or locker room.

SCHOOL ENTRANCE AREA

The entrance location is needed to show ESME’s entry into the school

LIBRARY

Since most of the people who suffer from depression or have artistic temperament are mostly seen in quite places. So we chose library to show Esme getting bullied while writing her journal.

LOCKER/ CORRIDOR

According to the research most of the students are bullied around locker room or in the corridors, so we chose this area to show some bully scenes.

BASKETBALL COURT

According to me there are many students who are bullied in school grounds while playing sports. So I chose basketball court as one of our location where we can shoot bully scenes.🎬

BATHROOM

This is the main area where our important scenes are going to take place like the transformation of our characters.

BEDROOM

Finally we chose bedroom to show ESME writing journal, crying , taking pills while suffering from depression.

SCREENPLAY

After finalising the locations and story line I started writing the screenplay, which is the most difficult one out of all other pre production part. We decided to keep the essence of both trailers same but at different paces. I continued the screenplay according to the story and by focusing on the main plot I divided that into two trailers. I made many drafts and edited them more than 5 times and then finally came up with a understandable screenplay.

CASTING

After finalising the screenplay we started looking up for our characters. I wanted our chosen actors to be extremely skilled as our lead Character has to act like a twin where she needs to have both different personalities. On the other hand we needed a group people who can bully the main character. We were looking for actors that could portray a range of emotions and through their actions and expressions. After a lot of screening we have finalised these actors:-

ADITI JAIN AKA ESME & ESTELLE

Aditi is my junior and an AS level student. We finalised her because she will fit the role of twins perfect. To be honest I have never seen her in any roles or acts so We took her screen test before selecting her as our lead actor. And she seems very innocent and on the other hand she can be very cruel at a point.

MANAN CHOUHAN AKA MARC

Manan is my classmate and an A level student. We finalised him because of his great acting skills. He has the potential to do what is expected. Plus, he is a great actor and have played many roles in school annual functions.

KAANCHI DAGA AKA ANNA

Kaanchi is my classmate and an A level student. We finalised her because she was available at that point of time and we had no one to choose as everyone had their classes and different excuses. Although she is a good actor, she had also played many roles in school activities.

DARSH JAIN AKA LUCUS

Darsh is again my classmate and an A level student. He was the one we selected at first because of his acting skills. Just like manan he is a great actor and have played many roles in school annual functions.

Finally we selected some more students from our class to do some side roles.

SHOT DIVISION

After deciding the screenplay and casting, it was passed down to RIYAAN, the cinematographer of the team to plan the shots and divide them accordingly. He researched on many different shots and what feeling they create, before making the shot division. We also read the conventions of horror genre to make sure we include those conventions so that audience can recognise our product’s genre. After a lot of research RIYAAN made a draft of shot division and passed it down to us to make any necessary changes. I made some changes and created a final shot division list for both of the trailers.

Thereafter our cinematographer started taking some shots for trial and our editor started editing them for a practice. They made me the actor for one day to check their editing and camera skills. The below shot was taken by the cinematographer to check the positioning and camera angle then the editor checked the editing techniques of how the mirror reflection changes.

SEQUENCE

Just to make it easier I wrote all the scenes in a sequence.

Simultaneously our team started thinking for the title of the film.

MOODBOARD

Moodboard is something which help us determine the aesthetic of our film and make our piece visually pleasing but it also helps in deciding the props and decor of setting. In media I have never done any moodboard before but since we do create moodboards for Art and design, which really helps us to know the color scheme and different small areas. So this time I have created one for our understanding of the trailer and horror genre.

MISE EN SCÈNE

PROPS

The most iconic prop with the slasher sub genre is the knife. People instantly associate it with horror as it has a scary and ruthless appearance and is very prominent within the genre. Unfortunately we don’t have any scene related to murder or blood so there are no props as such needed. The only props which were needed were :-

DIARY - the main prop was the diary - ESME’s journal. We filled her diary with the narrations before the shoot day so that everything is prepared and we just have to take the shot.

PILLS - these were needed to show our lead character suffering from depression.

These were the only requirement as far as the props were concerned.

COSTUME & MAKEUP

Costume and makeup are crucial for any film. They are the representative of the character and their personalities. Since our shoot Will happen in the school only, the costume is so far will be the school dress. We have different 3 different school dresses - one for sports, one for coo curricular activities and the main school uniform for major school events. The only extra dress which will be required is the casual house dress.

Makeup is another important factor while representing a character. Since we have 2 different personalities looks same but behaves totally different. One is very fearless and the other one her twin is very innocent. So to show the difference I thought of keeping ESME the same and transforming the other one into a bold look.

LIGHTING

Lighting will be playing very important role in our production. According to the conventions of horror genre the lightnings are supposed to be low and dull in order to create eerie atmosphere. However we challenged this convention and used natural lighting. This is because of the scenes and we are also considering drama genre so used the lighting accordingly.

After finalising all the pre production requirements my team started thinking for the movie title. We researched a lot while writing the story line but weren’t able to find a suitable title for our trailer.

Finally came up with a unique and different title ESTRANGED we chose this because it is related to our character and on what the story is based on.

We handed over the screenplay prints to our characters before the shoot day so that all are prepared and ready with their dialogues.

RESEARCH AND PLANNING

Hey guys in this blog I’m going to share all of my research and planning for our advanced portfolio in which we have to create two trailers.

Since The COVID-19 has resulted in schools shut all across the world. As a result, education has changed dramatically, with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. Similarly, media studies classes are going online and we are trying our best to collaborate as a team and understand all the theory and practical aspects of media studies. We have started with the overview of the syllabus and have done the discussion on our advanced portfolio.

After getting a brief understanding about our coursework, we got together to discuss a wide range of ideas for our story line. I first researched on A level trailers to understand how they are presenting there genres. I then started researching more about different genres which could easily convey the meaning of the trailers.

Thereafter i commenced writing and planning for our story line. I thought of showing different genre this time so selected horror and drama for our trailer. Since because of COVID-19 we can’t go anywhere to shoot, the only location could be our school. Our teacher made this clear while explaining about the advanced portfolio. So accordingly we can create our story line.

Since our shoot will take place in school and we have to bring up a social issue for our trailer, I decided to manifest a common social issue BULLYING which is happening nowadays in school and used to be a very complex social phenomenon that crosses age, ethnicity and national boundaries.

Types of bulling

Direct Bullying and Indirect Bullying

Direct bullying is different from indirect bullying as direct bullying involves direct contact with the one being bullied. Indirect may not. An example of direct bullying would be throwing something at a person, or yelling hurtful words at them. An example of indirect bullying might be spreading rumors about a classmate.

Physical Bullying

Physical bullying always involves physical contact with the other person. This can mean hand-to-hand, but can also mean throwing items, tripping, or eliciting others to cause physical harm to a person.

Emotional Bullying

Emotional bullying involves using ways to cause emotional hurt to another person. This can include saying or writing hurtful things, causing others to gang up on an individual, purposeful ignoring, or spreading rumors.

There are many more types of bullying but since these are the common ways a one could bully someone so I thought of showing them into our trailer. Even there are multiple places where bullying occurs like :

in the hallway or stairwell at school

inside the classroom

in the cafeteria

outside on school grounds

on the school bus

in the bathroom or locker room

These could be the places where we can shoot our shots. Then I researched on What makes a bully ?

School bullies tend to share common traits such as aggressive, dominant, slightly lower than average intelligence and reading ability, and are of average school popularity. Many suggest that bullies may have poor social skills, have low empathy levels, and can be uncooperative.

Thereafter I researched on the effects of bullying : Depression and anxiety, increased feelings of sadness and loneliness, changes in sleep and eating patterns, and loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy. These are the major issues students are more likely to experience.

Since depression is very common nowadays as all age of people are facing and majorly school students suffer form this social issue so my idea was to show both bullying and depression into our trailers.

I started compiling my ideas and my research about bullying and depression and began thinking how could I connect it with school life and horror drama genre. Below is the horror/thriller movie in which student gets bullied

These are my Initial ideas:

a girl reading a scary book realising herself as a character in it and starts behaving wired around her classmates where they starts bullying her.

 classmates playing TDS and gives dare to the girl to record a video of the places where no one has visited and is locked where she receives calls from a person named black hood who hides his face and calls her to do certain strange things.

I started discussing these ideas with my teammates but unfortunately no one agreed as they had their different ideas too. So as a team we end up with whole new plan for our story line. I and the editor thought of showing a story of the twins where one is trapped inside the mirror and another gets bullied in the school and suffers from depression to help her, her twin sister takes revenge. At first I thought of showing this marked transformation between both sisters in the trailer. However our teacher suggested us to hold on to our lead actor throughout the trailer and to not reveal the other one as it will help to us to maintain curiosity till the end.

One of the top most search engine questions is how can bullying lead to depression. This we conducted a survey and social media poll to ensure that we are moving forward with an actual serious social issue. Our responders were the active student community who are the target Audience for our trailers.

Overall This survey was very helpful..

After for the inspiration I started watching some trailers. 🎬

We watched trapped which is a survival drama for more references.

I found a very interesting series Al Rawabi school of girls which I have watched before it includes a story of a girl getting bullied by her classmates and takes revenge afterwards.

For more ideas I have watched 13 Reason why’s trailer.

13 Reasons Why stood out through all the issues and controversies it faced and showcases bullying, depression and major issues faced by a student at school in an easy going manner, this attracted a huge no. of audience and successfully gained recognition as it:

Made specific moves in order to have the audience feel EXACTLY what the character feels.

Does the best to highlight what every single person in a suicide/sexual abuse/bullying (etc.) experience may feel by touching on almost every situation.

Stresses that these situations do exist, and that there is ALWAYS a way out.

By watching so many trailers and movies I was sorted with my story and had a clear plan for our story line. However We have changed our story plans 2 -3 times by considering all the suggestions and ideas from my teammates but eventually this all helped me to be more creative while planning and thinking out of the box.

I have also researched on codes and conventions of horror drama genre while I was planning the story. As this particular research is very important to know before we finalised the story.

Overall, all these elements of research and planning helped me to develop my research skills.

So this was all about research and planning now it’s time to gather all the research material and final the story-line‼️

A LEVEL MEDIA STUDIES

Welcome to my A level media studies blog! I’ll be starting with a whole new project this year with many new ideas and innovation. Just like before we have to create a advanced portfolio which involves 4 different options from where we have to choose one for our A levels. The only option we are considering is a film promotional package for a new film, which includes two trailers together with an official social media page for the film and a poster for the film.

The reason I chose media studies is to learn the art of presenting an idea, a message full of positivity that reaches out to the rest of the world. This year I’m going to learn a lot more about a film and how trailers are produced and dispensed to the audience. So basically a trailer includes much of a film plot in a short period whilst appealing to a large audience and encouraging them to see the film.
