Interested in a research career in Taiwan? How does the biomedical job landscape look? How to apply for a grant? The NIH Visiting Fellows' Committee is hosting Dr. Y. Henry Sun, Executive Secretary of the Central Academic Advisory Committee, in charge of academic affairs in Academia Sinica, to talk about job opportunities in Taiwan.

Bio: Professor Sun received his B.S. (1976) degree from National Taiwan University, and Ph.D. (1986) degree from California Institute of Technology. He then worked at Yale University as a postdoctoral fellow for two years. He started his independent research career as Associate Research Fellow at Institute of Molecular Biology, Academia Sinica, Taiwan in 1988, and became Research Fellow in 1999 and Distinguished Research Fellow in 2006. He was adjunct faculty in National Yang-Ming University since 1988. He had served as the Coordinator of the Developmental Biology Graduate Program in National Yang-Ming University, the Chair of the Study Section in Biology for National Science Council, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Central Academic Advisory Committee in Academia Sinica, and the Deputy Minister of the National Science Council (NSC). He currently serves as the Executive Secretary of the Central Academic Advisory Committee, in charge of academic affairs in Academia Sinica.

His research interests are in the molecular mechanism of the development of the visual system in the fruit fly Drosophila. The research topics include fate specification, growth control, glia-neuron interactions, and neurodegeneration. He has received the Young Investigator Research Award, Academia Sinica (1999), the National Science Council Research Excellence Award (2000, 2004), the Academic Award, Ministry of Education (2008) and the Chin-Tuei Ho Excellence Award (2009). He is a leader in promoting developmental biology and neuroscience research, and a leader in the Drosophila research community in Taiwan.
