Bias in Media
Even though media, such as news, commercials, and youtube videos, tells issues and critical information, they tend to have bias in every media. There are 3 main examples of bias: gender, racial, and religious.
1.Gender

Toy commercials for kids are tend to contain gender bias. Toy commercials show dolls, princess costume and bright colors, such as pink and orange are for girls, and  gun, hero and car racing are for boys.
youtube
This video refutes the bias of gender. It breaks the thought that doll is only for girls and presents gender equality by giving a comb of the doll to the boy.
youtube
This commercial shows the bias that how male and female looks differently to others in the workplace, life and society.
2.Racial

this VIDEO strongly DEPICTS RACISM. A Detergent has absolutely NOTHING to do with the colour of someone's SKIN. Detergent is USED on CLOTHES. Seems like this commercial shows that BLACK PEOPLE are DIRTY and NASTY and Chinese PEOPLE are clean.......Which is VERY DISRESPECTFUL to the BLACK nation. I’m not talking about Chinese people are bad. But director/Videographer have to feel shame.
[people’s opinion] -Justin Wolfsangle: That's not racist. Loving your own people doesn't mean you hate others. Everyone should keep there bloodlines pure out of respect to their ancestry. Racism would be walking up & killing someone for solely being a different race.
-VideoSaySo: People are just way too fucking sensitive nowadays. It's funny! I guess anyone with a sense of humor will be hit with hate crime statutes because everyone takes themselves far too seriously. What about the commercial with the white guy going in and coming out black?? Or is it not racist when it goes the other way around? I am so sick of this pandering bullshit.
-Caroline Majek: went in black came out yellow not the best washing detergent
3.Religious

To understand the topic, we must first try to define the key terms.
Religion - (1) the service and worship of God or the supernatural (2): commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance. (3) personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices.
Bias - prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.
Media -  the main means of mass communication (broadcasting, publishing, and the Internet), regarded collectively.

Often it is seen in the media there is a bias in favor for certain religions and a bias against other religion. It is common knowledge that in western media there is a bias against Muslim and Islam. The reasons behind this is that the main aim of media companies is to make money, even though it should be to report and inform the public as honestly as possible. So, whether it be a result of control from the state/government or big investors and companies, most media outlets in the western hemisphere carry out the agenda of the forces behind their source of funds and provides extremely biased reporting. The media reflects the interests, prejudices and values of the state or investors and force feeds it to the public. In some countries, religious reporting is only allowed if it is preapproved by the state or involving a religion which is of the state (usually Catholic or any other Christian religion). The media displays certain religions as cults almost or tend to group cults which exist in certain religions into the religion. As if the religion itself agrees with the beliefs of the cut even though that is not the case in most scenarios. Some countries also view derogatory statements as hate crimes but this usually only applies to religions that are of the state. So basically, derogatory statements against a catholic religion is taken as a hate crime while similar statements against Islam or muslin religions is not see as such. One can even say that derogatory statements against Islam or Muslim religions is the societal norm.
Tumblr media
[Muslin and Islam religion in the media] • Usually the religious body is portrayed negatively. • Negative connation behind the word “Muslim”. • The media hardly covers positive images of people of Muslim faith (doing charity work, doing well in school etc.). They are hardly ever shown in everyday life, as professionals, educators, parents, community leaders and participants. • There is little or no tolerance for the dress code of Muslim people even though it is very similar to that of Catholic nuns which is seen as acceptable. • Muslim religion is deemed to be against the norm. • The religion is portrayed as a “breeding ground” for various cults. • Since 9/11, negative messages about Muslims have received more media attention than positive ones. • the media talks and writes about Muslims in ways that would not be acceptable if the reference were to Jewish or Christians.
