Membergroups

Metamorphoses’ member groups are based on a modified version of so-called close encounters—a scale devised to measure just how close one has come to seeing, touching, or experiencing life from somewhere other than Earth. 

 The groups reach from first kind to fourth and are based on a character’s level of interaction and, in a way, contamination by the matter from the Impact that formed the Novum Stretch. How often and how intensely they have come in contact with the phenomena determines their degree or “kind,” and the degrees, like people, are inherently changeable, depending on what happens to your character over time. 

Remember that awareness does not equal a higher degree of encounter. A character may have all the facts and seen the evidence printed out in front of them, but as long as they are beyond the Stretch’s reach, they are untouched. Time spent in the towns will have an impact, but a concentrated brush with the fog can spur even a newcomer to reach a higher degree.

THE ROTH FAMILY

Based on the series Succession, this is a request for THE ROTHS, the family behind the shadowy MORPHOS CORP. If the Impact of 1999 is the blood in the water, then the Roth family are the sharks that followed. Arriving from Washington D.C. for the feast, they established the Genesis research facility in 2000 and have been using it for the last 21 years to explore the depths of the Novum Stretch as well as to conduct top secret experiments on how the Stretch affects plants, animals, and people.

Their company, Morphos Corp, was originally established in 1971 by family patriarch Charles Roth. Since its inception, Morphos has had a diverse portfolio dealing in government contracting (military, weapons, security) and pharmaceuticals. Their research on the Stretch is their latest power grab, as they secretly seek to monetize/weaponize their findings. Click here for more on the Morphos subplot.

The TL;DR of them is this: they’re rich, they’re ruthless, and they won’t leave until they get what they’ve come for. Even as the Backburns’ and town hall’s disdain for them grows, Arkney and Bellmore have become severely dependent on the money, jobs, and prestige Morphos and the Roths have brought to the area, and the Roths know and leverage this. The patriarch has dictated that each of his children fan out and insinuate themselves in different parts of Arkney and Bellmore society to increase the family’s presence and hold on the area.

Gm y’all!

We’ve got a few fun updates for ya today, beginning with the announcement that we’ll be releasing Subplot 4: Engine of Transformation at 11am EST. 

Second, early FC reserves are officially over. Huge big thanks to everyone who participated by submitting a member intro! Even though early FC reserves have wrapped, we still encourage folx to fill out a member intro if you’re just joining us 💖

Third, general FC reserves start today! This means anyone can submit an ask for 1 FC of their choosing provided the FC isn’t already reserved. Please check our current reserves roster to verify before submitting your ask. Asks can be submitted anonymously as long as you include your alias in the message (e.g., “Kieran Culkin for Roman”). If you participated in early FC reserves, you can also submit asks for general FC reserves and have a total of 2 FC reserves.

General reserves last until the site opens next week. After opening, those who reserved faces through Tumblr will have 7 days to app their characters and can request extensions as needed. 

Fourth, to get us geared up for our characters, we’re kicking off a DEV CHALLENGE that goes from today to January 29th. To participate, create some character dev in the form of graphics, playlists, aesthetic boards, want ads, pieces of writing like prose and/or poetry, etc. Then post your dev with the #morphosrp tag and we’ll repost here. Those who participate in the dev challenge will receive 1 extra FC or canon reserve of their choosing.

To give you inspo for your dev pieces, we invite you to take a look and listen to the Meta pinterest board and the Meta spotify playlist. Please note that the pinterest board comes with a tw/cw for macabre imagery, body horror, and gore. The playlist is collaborative, so feel free to contribute your favorite songs with speculative sci-fi vibes.
