maelle ( & by extension alicia ) are clothing THIEVES. are the dessendres filthy rich ? yes . does that stop their youngest from taking any / all of their unworn clothes ? absolutely not . gustave , verso , or renoir’s old vests quickly become part of her wardrobe , as do clea or aline’s old skirts . the outfit that sophie wore during the gommage is an outfit maelle has … … “ borrowed ” before when she & gustave were still together . suffice to say , if you hand her a jacket , don’t expect to see it anytime soon .

what does your heart look like ?

molten lava and charred flesh. your heart burned so fiercely that it burnt itself out , leaving horrible scars in its wake ; scars inside your chest and on the hands of those who touched you , the hearts of anyone who got close enough to connect to yours . the person you are now is no longer recognizable , burnt up by your own anger and passion and love . the injuries can never be fully erased , but they can be soothed with time and trust and forgiveness .

‘ are you trying to make me angry? ’

no, of course not, is the obvious answer.      from sneaking around corners,   making herself scarce, distancing herself from the rest of the manor,   she had earned the title ' little shadow . ' not like it was a hard title to earn , after all , she lived with corpses --- a mother trapped in grief & a father chasing after her.   the only lively bustle of a dying house was a sister who never wanted to be home , instead forced to pick up the pieces of her family    (    a sister not allowed to grieve ,  instead forced to deal with   YOU  & your mistakes     ) .

a moment more passes before the shadow passes a murmur,   gaze moving downward & away from her working elder sister .    only in this small room of clea's does the manor ever feel alive these days . the quiet war in papa's atelier is suffocating , more so than the prison of her own room . here stood paintings of fantastical creatures , a well - loved harp , & brilliantly crafted sculptures --- it was the culmination of perfecting her craft . her work was everything alicia herself was not . it was no wonder clea was papa's favorite & it didn't take a genius to see that clea sees her as a nuisance .

trembling hands tighten on the metal of the door knob . she had only wanted to watch perfection at work . maybe , just maybe , then could alicia gain a drop of talent : something worthy enough to reassure her as part of the dessendre family . despite , despite being all ... ... this . caught in her crime , alicia closes her one good eye & stands frozen in place , tense & ready for whatever terse words came next from her sister .

how do you need to be loved ?

carefully, like a gentle rain on dry Earth.    you've been left beaten down and by someone you really trusted and loved,   so now love doesn't come easy for you.    you want it to.    you want to love and be loved,   but you're not sure you remember how.    so you need someone else to take the lead.    they have to be gentle and sweet and patient.    they have to watch out for you,   and make sure you're doing okay,   because most days you feel a little fragile,   if not totally shattered.    but someone will come along who will put those pieces back together again.
