there was no gentle part of me before you

i can behave oh so normally about keith kogane and how stray dog coded he is. i can be trusted with the fact that keith is not quick to love, but when he loves, he loves fiercely and desperately and with his whole entire being, lets it consume him until he is willing to do anything to save them and keep them safe. i can be normal about the fact that the second he thinks he's fucked up in any way, the second he believes he's made a mistake or hurt someone he cared about or caused something bad to happen, he lashes out and gets mean and aggressive and then just leaves because he thinks he'll just be thrown out anyway, like who he is as a person isn't worth loving enough to save so he turns people against him before they have a chance to realize he isnt worth it. i have average thoughts and opinions about the fact that his trust must be earned before he shows any affection at all, and when he does show affection, it's so soft and gentle and small that it's barely even there, and if you look at it too hard, it will vanish under his prickly and defensive exterior and won't return until you aren't looking in his direction again. IM NORMAL ABOUT IT I PROMISE--

i think there is something so incredibly painful about shiro having an inch of hope that after all these years he might see adam again. because yes adam said that he may not be there when shiro gets back, yes their last proper conversation was that fight.. but so much has happened since that moment in time. shiro has changed in so many ways, and it’s only reasonable to assume the same for adam. he lets this hope slowly build and build the closer they get to earth, the closer he gets to adam.. just for all of that hope to be destroyed within moments of their arrival because iverson is pulling him to the side to tell shiro what happened to adam. when shiro didn’t see adam in the scarce crowd waiting for them, he had a feeling. a feeling deep in his heart that told him that adam was gone. but maybe he was just busy, or still trying to keep up the “I won’t be there”.. shiro allowed himself to feel all of this hope, let the excitement of possibly seeing his love again in, then had to deal with the aftermath of allowing that flame to grow while also dealing with the end of the war. despite everything, shiro still had hope for the future. he tells himself should’ve known that hope is dangerous
