In 2016, VonFromDaPook dropped his first single “Lets Keep it a Hunnit” as AC The Authentist. Shortly, he changed his name to VonFromDaPook in order for people to get a sense of ‘him’. After starting to make a name for himself, in 2018, VonFromDaPook had his first performance ever at the Nationwide event called Coast to Coast. The same event where the famous rapper like “Lil Mosey” got a major deal from. VFDP performed his single “Young N.I.G.G.A.S.” This song was influenced by Tupac Shakurs’ definition of the word “Nigga”. Which was “Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished”. After losing the competition, VFDP was still not discouraged.

In September 2019, VonFromDaPook dropped his first EP “Shit Could Be Worse”. The seven track EP was unprecedented. The most popular songs on the EP were “W3 HUNGRY” , “Mary Jan3”, and “Coolest Monkey In The Jungle Remix”. The song “W3 HUNGRY” is about being the strongest soldier to survive. We do not only want to get out of the working class but we also want more to life. Furthermore, the song “Mary Jan3” is about VFDP’s marijuana addiction. He explains his emotions, struggles, and thoughts when coming to dealing with his addiction and anxiety. Moreover, VFDP performed his second time at The UndrWrld on the same day as he dropped his EP. The UndrWrld is an underground show venue in New Brunswick, New Jersey. That night he performed the whole Shit Could Be Worse EP.

Blog #2 - A$AP Rocky

A$AP Rocky is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, model, actor, and music video director. A$AP Rocky is part of the hip hop collective, A$AP Mob. Rocky joined A$AP Mob in 2007. The collective was created by A$AP Yams, A$AP Bari, and A$AP Illz. Furthermore, Rocky was known for the hip hop subgenre “Trill Music”. Rocky has extraordinary word play ability and bars like New York rappers, but also has the smoothness in his words like southern rappers. Rocky’s influencers are The Diplomats, Mobb Deep, Three 6 Mafia, UGK, Run DMC, Wu-Tang Clan, Andre 3000, and Bone Thug-n-Harmony. On the other side, Rocky influenced Lil B, Playboi Carti, Joey BadA$$, and many more modern day rappers including myself, VonFromDaPook.
Rocky started rapping at the age nine, when he moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Rocky learned how to rap from his older brother. When Rocky was 12 years old, his father went to jail in connection with selling drugs, and later died in 2012. When Rocky was 13 years old, his older brother was killed in Harlem. These trade of events and deaths has caused Rocky to take rapping more seriously. With a life surrounded by drugs, Rocky then started selling drugs like cannabis and crack while moving around homeless shelters with his mother and sister. In 2004, Rocky got arrested for drug dealing and served two weeks in Rikers Island with future rapper Casanova.

In July 2011, Rocky released his single “Purple Swag” which quickly became a street anthem for New York City. The song expresses the cozy, urban lifestyle within New York and other urban areas. A month later, Rocky’s single “Peso” was leaked and Rocky’s career was progressing at a very fast rate. After getting a lot of plays on Hot 97, Rocky decided to drop a video for “Purple Swag”. That video caused a lot of attention from record labels. In October 2011, Rocky dropped “Live. Love. A$AP” mixtape that caused him to get a 2 year, $3 million dollar record deal with RCA records and Polo Ground Music.

Rocky recorded his debut studio album “Long. Live. A$AP.” “Long. Live. A$AP” was released on January 15, 2013. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. Rocky then started the Long. Live. A$AP tour around the nation. Rocky and A$AP Mob are known for their energetic, careless, and accelerating concerts. One moment the crowd can be waving lighters and phones. Then the next moment the crowd can be mosh pitting. One does not know what to expect when going to an A$AP Rocky concert.

BLOG #1 - N.W.A

N.W.A (Niggaz wit Attitudes) was an American hip hop group from Compton,California. N.W.A consisted of Arabian Prince, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, and MC Ren. N.W.A group was the earliest and most significant controversial figures of the ‘gangsta rap’ subgenre. The West coast group was considered one of the greatest and most influential groups in hip hop history. N.W.A influenced Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, the Game, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, and many more.
youtube
N.W.A was active from 1987 to 1991. During their time, the group endured great controversy due to their explicit lyrics. Furthermore, some people felt that N.W.A glorified drugs and crime. As a result, N.W.A was then banned from many mainstream American radio stations. Parents, most likely, white parents did not want their children listening to the group’s music because they felt that N.W.A was poisoning their children's minds. However, the groups’ intention was to not glorify the negative behavior. The groups’ intention was to just express what goes on in their daily lives. Which at that time was negative. Drugs, gangs, and crime were not the only negative behaviors occurring around the West Coast group. N.W.A had to face racism and excessive policing as well. These brutal experiences with policing caused N.W.A to start creating political music. N.W.A, specifically, Ice Cube was also influenced by Grandmaster Flash and his song “The Message”. Lastly, N.W.A saw their music as less of ‘gangsta rap’ and more as ‘reality rap’.
In 1988, N.W.A released their debut studio album, Straight Outta Compton. N.W.A’s first album reflected the rising anger of the urban youth. The first song, Straight Outta Compton, introduced the group members. Then the group had a song called “Fuck Tha Police”. “Fuck Tha Police” protested police brutality and racial profiling. The song was a turning point in the group’s career. The brutal truth and explicit lyrics of “Fuck tha Police” caused a grand amount of controversy and attention to the group. With the fear of retaliation, nation-wide police made sure the group would not perform that song. In 1989, in Detroit, the group rebelled against the police and promoter by performing “Fuck tha Police”. The police then crashed the concert, threw fireworks on the stage and arrested the group. This performance was a great influence to the group’s success.
youtube
N.W.A was truly the 90s’ Black Panther with a mix of Malcolm X. The group wore primarily black clothing. The black clothing represented the rebellious black culture. The group wore gangsta clothes in order to relate to their fans and market. Even though N.W.A may have handled racism, police brutality, racial profiling differently than most. However, they were the eye openers to what happened in California and the rest of the world. Niggaz wit Attitude would not take anymore injustice as long as they would stand. N.W.A made sure their fans and others watching were aware of their movement.
