what's your role in the found family dynamic? the "comic relief."

yes, alright, you tell your jokes and do your bits. you break awkward silences and sing silly songs; but what about when you're not keeping the levity? what else makes up the person who makes others feel good? you're kind. you connect with people. you hate to see others sad. you have a vice or two—who doesn't—but the point is, you are the epitome of what it is to be human, and you are able to encompass the absolutely zany improbability of life as we know it. people are comforted by you. they cherish your spirit and relate to you. but it can be difficult when you're not laughing. comedy becomes a wall to keep worse feelings out, or in. a person who feels any emotion to the extreme will undoubtedly feel others the same way. laughing is great, but...perhaps a big reason you appreciate your family is that there's something you can't stand in silence.

doyun: modern rom-com have you ever been in love? do you want to do it again? will they like you this time? what about next time? what will you change, what are you willing to give up? will you be the same at the end of it all? will they? maybe just try again. and again. and again. and again.

hyejoon: historical tragedy you know how people say that when someone dies, it’s like their candle goes out? of course you know, you’ve been lost in the dark before. you’ve felt the wax drip onto your skin as the wick burns out, the smoke rising away from the puddle in your hands. maybe you can reshape it—put it back together. maybe you can light it again someday.

iseul: modern dark comedy happy birthday! where has the time gone? another year older, another year wiser. happy birthday! another year down, and eternity to go. happy birthday! maybe this year will be different, you have 365 days to find out. clock’s ticking! happy birthday!

ezra: historical horror there is something in the walls. there is something in your blood. there is something in your pocket and it’s always been there; it’s all always been there. whoever put it there is long gone, but you’re still here.

tao: sci-fi horror there is always something behind you, but you will never see it...have you seen it? you don't think you can remember now. maybe take another look, just a little glance. what's one more time, right? just once more, once more, once more...

yejun nodded, only half listening to his friend's words as he directed his full concentration on the flower crown in his hands. their tongue poked out from between their lips as they threaded a stem through some petals, carefully twisting the green parts together. "really?" they frowned at his words, attempting to hold their chain upright. it crumbled to pieces in his hands and he chuckled slightly. "i wouldn't speak so soon," he sighed.

"not really," they admitted, shaking their head. they hadn't been able to practice in weeks, and their pronunciation was suffering, but thankfully the vocabulary had stuck around. "very annoying," iseul agreed with a sigh. early shoots were the worst. they generally started in the early morning, which meant you'd have to wake up at the crack of dawn in order to get ready. horrible, if you weren't a morning person; and iseul was not. they couldn't help but burst into laughter at his glance, laying their other hand over the spot where no watch in fact laid. "it's nearly one," they replied, grinning.

unable to stifle his giggles at the other's usage of his first language, nikolai squeezed their hand gently. “ ya, you're getting good! 做得好, ” at the mention of the shoot that had entirely slipped his mind as the night went on, his jaw dropped, gaping for a moment before groaning, squeezing his eyes shut as he threw his head back. “ ahhh, so annoying, ” he whined, deeply troubled by the arrangement, knowing even in his drunken state that he'd dread waking up for it come morning. maybe he could catch some extra z's in the makeup chair. his nose scrunched at their words, but he knew they were right, giving a slow nod. “ what time is it now? it's late, right? ” he asked, looking down at a watchless wrist.

they smiled back at his answer, happy to know the other felt the same way as them. iseul had quickly come to consider minjae somewhat of a younger sibling, but their bond ran much deeper than just their ages. "narnia looks fun," they agreed, nodding at his words. they couldn't help but chuckle, shaking their head as they replied, "i think everyone did, at one point or another. who wouldn't want to have a magical dimension in the back of their closet?"

minjae nodded at iseul's answer, moving from a cross-legged position to hug his knees to his chest. “ i think we would. it just makes sense, ” he smiled as he thought about the different universes that they could be in. “ i think narnia would be the coolest one to be in, it's so magical. i remember wanting to go there so bad when i was growing up, ” a slightly sad fact, though it's not said as such. “ i thought it was real in my closet for a super long time. ”

ezra shrugged. "probably." one corner of his mouth quirked up in a smirk as he glanced over at the other. "but has that ever really stopped us before?" he grinned. "c'mon, i promise we won't get caught. and if we do, i'll take the fall." he shrugged. "i owe you one, anyway."

"yes!" he cheered, shooting her a grin. "c'mon!" they tugged on her arm, pulling her towards the dance floor. "this is one of my favorites, you have good taste." yejun twirled around, twisting himself under his arm as he laughed. "so c'mon, yujin—show me those moves!"

there were a lot of people yujin considered younger siblings, and yejun was definitely one of them. their bright personality was one of her favourite things about them; he always seemed to bring out a side of her that was seldom seen by the public eye—a carefree playfulness, a complete contrast to the fiery diligence she normally displayed. unable to bite it back, yujin broke out in a grin, allowing him to pull her to her feet. “ fine, fine, you win, ” she admitted defeat with a laugh. “ only because they're finally playing a good song! lead the way. ”
