The more I watch into these final seasons of supernatural the more I'm realising that there was a war in the writers room and destiel may not have kissed on screen but it was undoubtedly there and people fought to make it textual, Cas says I love you in canon, they parallel brokeback mountain, they're family, they're best friends, they share a profound bond, Cas died and Dean grieved like a widow, multiple times, Dean doesn't believe in Chuck but he prays to Cas, Dean was on his knees and he said "I love you" and it broke Cas's conditioning, the happiest Cas ever felt was getting to tell Dean how loved he is, Dean's heaven was Cas's arm around him, yeah a lot of it didn't make the final cut but the fact that it kept being pushed for, the fact that it still broke through time and time again, it's a love story and it was written as a love story
