today’s hottake: u can always tell if a version of sherlock holmes is decent by how Irene Adler is written. Irene Adler’s purpose in the original Canon was to outsmart Holmes and force him to self reflect on his hubris and misogyny NOT to be a love interest. If an adaptation of Holmes shows Irene Adler as exclusively a love interest, or excludes her entirely, 9 times out of 10 its a sign that the writers are more interested in Holmes as an infallible figure of masculine intelligence than as a, like, human being or well rounded character. this is why Irene Adler is one of, if not the, most important characters in the whole sherlock holmes mythology and quite a revolutionary character given the context in which she was written but most adaptations completely disregard and belittle her because they’re misogynistic, homophobic, stupid, or a perfectly uninspiring combination of all three.

The more and more days that go on, I realize that the queer community has not unpacked its hatred of masculinity which means trans men, transmascs, masculine lesbians, masculine nonbinary people, etc always end up suffering.
Masculinity is not evil!!!!! Or bad!!!!!!! Free yourself from the radfem in your head I’m begging on behalf of all of us. Treating masculinity like it’s evil led me to suppress my tranness and perform femininity to a damaging degree I’m still trying to heal from.
It’s made me feel like I don’t belong in this community. I’m sick of being treated like I suck for being a man when the general population won’t even refer to me as a man. The only time I get “affirmed” is malgendering and it SUCKS. I swear to god we’re on binary 4.0 at this point where any genders on the feminine side are seen as good where any on the masculine side are evil. Too many of yall take out your frustrations about cishet men on queer and trans men. I’m not your fucking punching bag.
Cishet men have traumatized me. I have my own frustrations towards them. And I’ve talked about this before but that trauma led me down an unhealthy radfem path I had to free myself when I learned they were using my trauma as a way to get me to believe in their ideology. This is a huge reason I didn’t realize I was a trans guy. I didn’t want to identify with the “evil oppressors” who traumatized me. Do you see what I mean? Stop preaching that all men are evil. You’re hurting (especially) young trans men and trans mascs.

do you ever draw something for yourself that’s so deliciously self-indulgent that you just sit there like
[Image ID: 2 digital drawings of a short-haired person drawing on a tablet. In the first image they are looking at the screen and blushing pink. In the second image they are looking away from the screen and blushing more heavily, with the caption “…is this allowed?”. End ID]

Crowd sourcing this, and no, you don't get context right now.
You start a video game and are able to choose the gender and sexuality of your character. This affects your love interest(s) and rival(s). So, if you choose to be a woman who is straight, the love interest(s) will be men and the rival(s) will be women.
There is a bisexual route that shows the "canon" genders of the cast, minus the player character.

Yeah, it definitely seems like that. And it's especially confusing (and also telling) because of the ongoing conversation about the violence Black men face at the hands of police. This isn't to say the police don't go after all Black people, of all genders, but the fact that people can reblog posts about how young Black boys with toy guns are for some reason perceived as a threat, but not make the connection that it's Black masculinity that is perceived as threatening or inherently violent (from childhood) is just...... "reading theory" should not just be a box someone checks, it needs to be applied to real life. Otherwise what's the point of reading it. But some people on here make it incredibly obvious their only intention with reading theory is to brag about their moral superiority and shame other people for not reading theory as well as them.
That's exactly it honestly — there's such a cognitive disconnect that has to happen to think that way.
Like — even if they're "reading theory" they're clearly not reading anything written by Black authors because Black activists, authors, etc. have been identifying that masculinity and masculinization are key components in racially motivated violence for decades.
Just to put his name on your example — Tamir Rice was a 12 year old child with a toy gun. He was killed by a white police officer because Black boys are adultified by under white supremacy by virtue of Black masculinity being treated as inherently violent, dangerous, and sexual.
Tamir Rice was murdered in 2014. He would have turned 23 years old this year. He should be graduating college. Instead he is dead.
The tangible real world consequence of the demonization of black masculinity is murder. I truly struggle to understand why some people cannot comprehend this.
