Part of the reason I'm so adamant about encouraging people to get comfortable with bugs, my own interests aside, is because we cannot have a bright, solarpunk future without them.

A green future is not a bugless future. It is, in fact, a fairly bugful future. If you care about ecological stability, then you need to start with bugs, because they're the most at risk with our current use of pesticides.

One of the ways in which learning a bunch of crafts is dangerous is that you learn just how many things can be used as raw materials and it does not help with the hoarding instincts. Every time I throw away a pile of disintegrating clothes part of me goes "Nooooo you could make paper out of that!!!" even though I have no papermaking equipment, haven't made any in like a decade, and am now physically incapable of doing so. Also I'm sure most modern clothes would make really shitty paper. But like. Technically, you could make paper out of them, and this fact haunts me.

Truly I hate to do this to you all but; you can watch all the videos and read all the blogs in the world but you cannot learn to sew without at some point picking up a piece of fabric and fucking it up. No tutorial exists that will stop you at some point ruining this poor piece of cloth. The visceral act of holding a project and wondering where you went wrong is the only way to learn sewing; you cannot escape it. I’m sorry
