By far one of the DOPEST sheds found. This pic is very telling and shows sometimes the predator underestimates the prey; inevitably paying the ultimate cost. I can imagine seeing this buck stroll about with a rotting carcass hanging until it shed that late winter/early spring. Imagine all the doe loving it missed out on spooking the ladies with a predator puppet adorned its crown. (SRC: Urban Outdoorsman on FB.)

Finally got a ringtail pelt, so so soft and cute and smaller than I thought! Looks fun with the rest of the striped tail gang. I expected it to be the same size as my genet. Still longer than the female raccoon, though! One of my fave native mammals, it’ll def be a wallhanger.

I love me some long fur noodles!

when sending in pets for tanning, sometimes owners will request that i don’t make an incision on the tail so that the leather doesn’t show and it looks more like it did in life. unfortunately, it is necessary for the tail to be completely split down to the tip in order to flesh off all the fat (there can be a lot more fat in a tail than you’d think!), and ensure proper degreasing, tanning, and softening of the skin. however, what can be done in lieu of leaving it unsplit is to sew up the incision after tanning! that way, the tail can both be properly tanned and the incision be invisible. the left is the underside of a cat tail with the incision not sewn, the right is the underside of a cat tail after it was sewn up.
#man i would totally get you to tan any of my pets when they pass if i didnt live in europe#your tans look so nice and soft

Birthday gift to myself, a fo.x cub skeleton!!!
I’ve wanted a fully articulated skeleton of either a c.at or a fo.x since forever, so very happy to have found this beauty! Poor little thing was killed by a car so has a few damaged bones, but that just adds to it’s charm imo. I like animal remains that tell a story.

As we get into Halloween season, this is your periodic reminder that pretty much all the bat parts that you find for sale are from unsustainable, unethical sources (secondhand is better, but even then they initially came from bad sourcing.) Just because it's legal doesn't make it right.
#number 1 reason i dont have any bats#only time i'll buy a bat is if like. a friend of mine finds a dead one outside#poor bats i love them so much i hope folks stop buying so many

finally got one of my most holy grail pelts, a spotted hyena 🙌 a hyena has been near the top of my list ever since i began collecting. i was commissioned to tan this beautiful beast a while back, then as i was finishing her up the client offered to trade her for more tanning work, which of course i could not refuse! i am still in awe of her and grateful every time i look at her 🌟

A majority of people in VC collect due to a passion for nature and interest in biological sciences, or do so for spiritual reasons. Very very few do it for the ~aesthetic~ alone and i will admit if i come across weird dark edgy goth uwu collectors I block them because it puts me off. Most people do it because they want to learn more about the life around them and how it works and it is kind of embarrassing to see somebody with a platform try to suggest otherwise to a following of non-vultures when they don't know anything about our community.

"People only ever collect skulls for the aesthetic!"
"Just get plastic replicas, that's better for the environment!"
"People in the VC community don't care about the environment or nature!"
#vc#ugh the discourse was seriously so fucking dumb like they seriously think everyone on earth is taking bones?? lol ok#disc horse
