Starting this as a little rant/coping mechanism because I do not know how to process this shit and nobody I talk to seems to care

I am literally watching a coup of the United States government in real time and nobody seems to see it for what it is.

There’s too much noise.

People don’t care about there being a fake “Department Of Government Efficiency”(departments have to be made by congress) or that said “department” is committing numerous federal crimes by using their own servers to process sensitive government materials such as the personal details of federal employees.

People don’t care that they’re going to eliminate the department of education, or that for some reason the “free speech absolutists” all the sudden want to get rid of Wikipedia.

People I talk to say things like

1. “I won’t let myself devolve to hate because it makes me just like them”

My great grandfather hated Nazis. He served in the war. He was nothing like them. Being vehemently opposed to fascism does not make you evil, it makes you a human being with a functioning moral compass.

2. “I’ve just been ignoring the news because i feel better that way”

Are. You. Serious. Right. Now. We are LOSING OUR DEMOCRACY BECAUSE PEOPLE DONT PAY ATTENTION.

Good, honest people who get rightfully upset by the horrendous things happening every day now are turning away from it because they’d rather not hear about it anymore. I’d rather not hear any of it either, but I’ll be damned if I sit and watch idly as my future and the future of any child I may have is stolen by fascist dogs who only care about power and money.

3. “I don’t like politics”

Politics don’t like you either. Guess what? If it’s not your problem yet, it will be eventually. Not Hispanic? Not Queer? They will eventually run out of “others” to blame/hate. They will come for you or someone you love. And even if you’re a cishet white male who couldn’t give a fuck about anyone, you’re still going to have to put up with their economic policies that are about as well thought out as a screen door on a submarine. They don’t even understand how a tariff works. Im predicting women will lose more rights than just bodily autonomy. Like talking full taliban style, nothing without a man’s permission. No driving no leaving states no credit cards, existing only to populate the glorious homeland with white babies to be raised in the new christofascist tradition. And I hate when people talk like things in the previous sentence are ridiculous and not happening, because I wish that was the case. Banning contraceptives or abortions because it’s “immoral” or “against gods will” is literally using religion as a means of justifying your laws. We would call that a theocracy, which is explicitly not what the United States is. And yet, here we are, legislating because god said killing non sentient fetuses is against his will. Which he didn’t. Because he doesn’t exist. But even if he did, forget fetuses, god had a bear kill 42 children for making fun of a bald man.

Ok I’m done with my little freak out sesh for now but I’m not done saying what i have to say. I’m not even close.

I love this country and what it’s supposed to stand for and I fear I’m losing it to fascists.
